I cannot express in words how much we loved staying at Joey Ann's Sugar Mill Beach House.....the sounds of the ocean waves right outside your door, the tradewinds, the sea turtles -- just steps from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Oahu -- along with all the comforts of home. The location is nearly the exact GPS of where I would want to live if I could choose a spot on Oahu -- right at the base of the lovely Kualoa mountains, on a pristine stretch of picturesque beach, with a breathtaking view of Mokoli'i Island just offshore. The kayaks were an added bonus, and only added to the bucket list check-off of all the wonderful sights and experiences that were available to us from the home.
Joey was a gracious hostess, does not live on the property, is accessible and responsive without being intrusive. We had the entire property to ourselves.
As for recommendations for travelers staying here (and we would love to return again), there are so many. First of all, because the location of this home is everything, allow plenty of time for relaxing on the beach, on the lawn (which is also on the beach!), on the decks, on the lanais, etc. -- you will literally be cradled as you as you float on the gentle surf just outside the doors and windows of this home. Sunrises are spectacular, and if you're arriving from the mainland, will likely be easy to catch every morning due to the time difference. We caught the sunrises, watched sea turtles surface and look toward us each morning during our morning coffee walk on the beach, laid in the surf and allowed the warm, gentle waves to wash over our bodies, occasionally retreated into the reprieve of shade to spray on a new layer of sunscreen mist, catch a cool drink and relax on the lanai furniture while the constant trade winds cool your skin. (A word about suncreen...use a waterproof 20 or 30 at a minimum for the intense rays -- the last two days I dropped down to an 8 and went home with the most amazing deep brown tan I've ever had in my entire life.) Also, be sure to rent a good set of snorkel gear for the week -- you'll not want to miss snorkeling right off your very exclusive beach, which is frequented by offshore scuba divers and snorkelers alike for it's pristine water conditions, vast array of aquatic sea life and gentle waves.
Since you're likely traveling a very long distance to get to the island, I also recommend you rent a car -- and take every highway in every direction,
