Spacious lake house on Six Mile Lake. Close to Charlevoix and Boyne City (20 min), Petosky (45 min) and Traverse City (55min). 2 queen beds, a queen pull out couch and 4 twin beds. Kitchen fully equipped with eating area. Family room with 32' TV with DVD player. Kitchen and Family Room open onto balcony deck overlooking yard and lake. Sandy beach. Dock for your boat. Fire pit for evening campfires. Large yard for croquet, Frisbee, volleyball. Great golf nearby! Make day trips to Mackinac Island and the U.P., Sleeping Bear Dunes, Grand Traverse Bay.
General Information: The public access to the lake is about 1/2 mile south of the house. The dock can accomodate up to about a 21 ft boat. Bumpers and tie downs are not supplied. The waterfront is hard bottom sand. The lake has a gradual slope and goes out about 30 ft before getting chin deep. The lake is not weedy. Fishing is good if you know how to fish, and adequate if you just want to hook a worm and drop a line. There is a big yard that can accomodate most yard games (croquet, badmitton, volleyball, frisbee, etc.) There are many good places to eat. East Jordan has the best family value dining. Charlevoix is a little more upscale and touristy. Bellaire has some good choices as well.
My wife and I were born and raised in the Detroit area but now live in Virginia. We love Northern Michigan and have a few friends up there that we visit every year.
Tom Skelton purchased this house in 2006
Six Mile Lake is small but big enough for anything you want to do on a lake. Because of it being in a depression between two ridge lines the water stays very calm. When there are white caps on Lake Charlevoix we have ripples. It is great for waterskiing, tubing, canoeing or kayaking.
Great for relaxing and water sports. Not much boat traffic like larger lakes in the area. Good fishing.
5 adults and 3 kids under age 6 and we were very comfortable. Launched my boat a few hundred yards away and had a great week of fishing, boating, tubing. No distractions, just good family fun! The drive to east Jordan was quick for groceries and to stock up on gas for the boat. Another great thing was the fact that I could fish several lakes with just a short drive.
What a great place to go on vacation!!! The property was a great size, right on the water with plenty of room to play but not too far to walk to the waters edge. The fire pit was located in a great place too.
The house itself was open concept upstairs, plenty of space to lounge and be together as a family. It was great to have 2 full bathrooms as well as the laundry facilities. The beds were very comfortable.
Downstairs is all open with 4 twin beds. It worked well for us having little kids that could sleep by themselves. Having a living room set-up (no TV) down there as well was nice so that there was also a quiet area.
We rented this house with two other couples. Six adults and four children were able to stay comfortably. The kitchen and living room are large and spacious. The kitchen is stocked well with cooking utensils. The laundry area is nice and the washer and dryer are very quiet. The basement is large and great to have to store fishing and swimming gear. The floor is VERY cold though, bring slippers. The house was very clean. The lake is wonderful- clean and quiet. We had kayaks and a small boat and enjoyed the peacefulness.
The owner was easy to get ahold of. His numbers are easily visible by the phone for reference.
In the area, we went into East Jordan and Central Lake. Both have ice cream shops and great parks. There is a small park for young kids with a swimming area just 3/4 of a mile away from the house. We even got massages at a spa in Central Lake.
Great house and location. We would return and also recommend to others.
We stayed at the house the week of Aug 14-21, 2010. My family as well as my 2 sisters and their families and our parents. What a great time we had. HUGE yard to play badmitten, ladder golf, volleyball, soccer and bocce ball! Lake was beautiful...clean and clear. Nice sandy area to walk into lake. Sun dock was nice to lay out on while the kids jumped off the end of the boat dock. We also saw the Mink - he is really cute and just catches crayfish and takes them into the rocks. Fishing was good for the kids - not so much for the adults. Although we never seem to have much luck! We brought 2 boats and a jet ski and had plenty of room to dock the boats and plenty of room to park the trucks and trailers. Great to have firewood there (had a fire every night by the lake) - takes up a lot less room to not have to bring it with us. House was VERY clean, nice laundry room, nice kitchen area (has a larger table than what is pictured plus extra card table and chairs) and bedrooms were comfortable. Downstairs is one big room with 4 twin beds (not a seperate bedroom) but enough space we could also put down air mattresses for the kids. Other half of basement we could store extra stuff in (such as our lawn chairs when it rained). Owners were great to deal with and prompt with any questions we had prior to our arrival. For sure we would recommend this place! Went into Ellsworth - very small but cute with a grocery store and even went to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes for a day trip! Also hit Charlevoix while we were there!
We had 3 generations of family over the week, ranging from 4 to 68 years in age. This place has something for everyone. Great fishing and swimming. Quiet, peaceful setting for evening bonfires. Lots of wild life, we even saw a mink running along the lake shore as we canoed and bald eagles while driving around. Thirty minutes to all the gift, craft or antique shops (or ice cream shops) you wish to wander. This was an ideal cottage in an ideal location, well-kept, spacious and inexpensive for all that it offers. The owner is quick to communicate and has local people to handle any problems that might arise. I AM recommending this to all my friends who, like us, cottage surf for their summer vacations. You really won't be disappointed with this one.
This was a great spot to take a relaxing vacation. The cabin is nice. It has two bedrooms on the main floor, one with its own bathroom. The kitchen/ living room area is on the lake side of the house with nice glimpses of the lake through the trees. There is a large wrap around deck with a good gas grill, two outdoor tables and plenty of chairs. Since we had perfect weather all the time we were there, the deck was a perfect spot to be.
Downstairs, about half of the basement is finished into one large room with windows and a door that opens to the lake side. There are 4 single beds and a second refrigerator in this area.
For a cabin, the place is great. It is well maintained, quiet, comfortable and it much nicer than most resort cabins we have stayed at. Nicer by a lot.
At the lake, there is a sun dock and a boat dock. I was able to launch my 14’ fishing boat at a nearby ramp and tie it up at the dock From Six Mile Lake you can get to an adjoining lake, and if your boat is small like mine, you could power it through a large culvert and pull it across some shallows to yet another lake. (Search on the internet for “chain o lakes” in Michigan.) We saw a lot of ducks, herons, some geese, deer, and what I think was a muskrat as we cruised the waterway. Fishing wasn’t very good for larger fish, but if you want to keep some kids happy you can catch small pan fish all day long. I also caught bass, northern and crappie – all kind of small. At the boat ramp, I talked to local fishermen who were coming to the lake to fish, so there must be at least a few good fish. The lake was very quiet on week days and even for the Labor Day weekend, the boat traffic was not too bad.
The nearby towns of Charlevoix, Petoskey and Boyne City all are an easy drive and all have fun things to do, places to eat and nice shops.
The owners were great to deal with and we are thinking about making reservations for next year.
Quiet and peaceful with great stars at night. Reasonable prices and great food at local restaurants. Variety of quality golf courses within 20-45 minutes. Charlevoix about 20 minutes; East Jordan 15 minutes; Bellaire 20 minutes; Traverse City 55 minutes; Petosky 45 minutes.
