A very nice property

  • 5 of 5
A group of 4 adults, 2 couples, stayed here for 4 nights. The house is very well renovated and was impeccably clean. A few quirky things but nothing you couldn't attribute to the house being 150 years old. Would recommend this as a good place to stay in Bar Harbor as it was close to the entrance to Acadia National Park. The kitchen was sparsely equipped so you couldn't do a great deal of cooking, but there was an outdoor grill.

I was not prepared to be wowed by this charming cottage! It's beautiful and it's huge! It is so lovingly renovated with obvious care taken to retain its original charm. We were a group of 7 women and were very comfortable. Plenty of room for all to have their own space and no one had share beds! Every scar in the wood and sunfaded pillow adds to the character in this home. Special kudos to the cleaning crew. This house was immaculate! Not a dustmite to be found on the baseboards - I looked. I already know I'll be back to Maine and I'll plan my trip around the availability of this house.

Perfect Maine vacation home

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the Jones Cottage this August and loved it! The home was immaculate when we arrived and was even bigger than we anticipated. Plenty of space to play cards together at night and also to find a quiet space to read/relax. The location was perfect & we loved running around the neighborhood. We are looking forward to returning some day & would highly recommend this home to others!

Wish it was mine

This was one of the loveliest houses we've rented. It was clearly renovated with careful thought and wonderful taste. The house was spacious, comfortable and had many amenities (loved being able to cook our own lobster at home). I could live in that huge shower and the only problem now is...my kids want one of those at home!

We had a lovely stay. Yes, there was a heat wave, but we know that's unusual for Maine, and the house was very comfortable with a nice breeze once the temperature reached normal ranges. We've never rented nor expected a vacation home to have A/C. The fans were fine and the property manager supplied us with extras when we asked.

I don't understand the review from the previous renters. We loved the house and would come back in a heartbeat.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review of my home! It's guests like you who make it a pleasure to open a place that is very special to me to others. I'm so glad you can appreciate how much care we have put into the home.

Sincerely,

Spent 4th July Weekend at the mentioned property

  • 2 of 5
The mentioned property has a very good location as you could view the ocean from the porch but the access to the beach is restricted.
Pros:
• Location of the property.
• Child play place.
Cons:
• Almost all the furniture’s are old and some are broken.
• The house doesn’t have A/C so if you’re staying indoor during the afternoon then that would be real painful.
• The provided fans are not all functional.
• The bathroom which is located downstairs on the 1st floor doesn’t have light bulbs. This is kind of funny.

Owner's Response: In response to this review (the first slightly negative review in many years of renting)

1. The furniture is in wonderful shape and if anything is broken we were not told of it. I stayed at my home just before these renters arrived and did not notice any broken furniture
2. These renters were at our home for two nights only and it was during a very, very rare heat wave. The coast of Maine is never painfully hot and it is the rare house that has A/C.
3. These renters demanded that we immediately go out and buy additional fans for them without alerting us that the fans that are in the house were not functioning. We were not able to buy the fans in the very short time that they demanded that we did. If we had been told that the fans were not functioning we would have suggested that they purchase some at the local hardware store and that we would reimburse them the cost.
4. There is a lamp in the toilet area (separate from the shower and larger bathroom area) with a working light bulb. As I mentioned I was there one day before these renters arrived and did not see any broken furniture or burned out bulbs. We did not use the fans as it was rather chilly while we were there.

The broken fans have been replaced and please keep in mind that unless we are alerted that something needs to be fixed (such as the TV, which we promptly replaced) we often do not know that there is a problem. I (the owner) live in Boston so I can not respond to problems. The property manager has three young children and responds to requests in a reasonable amount of time. If your stay is as short as two nights we try our best to fix problems but sometimes it is not enough time.

Please read the wonderful reviews of the property. They are the majority.

Thank you

Great house and perfect location

  • 5 of 5
The house was lovely and as described and was a perfect location from which our family of 5 (2 adults, and 3 kids ages 9, 7 and 3) could explore Mount Desert Island. The house has an open layout with open spaces where all can gather as well as spots to comfortably sit to read a book. We would definitely return again.

Bar Harbor Maine is located on Mount Desert Island which is the home to Acadia National Park. This is one of the most beautiful and popular spots in the whole country. People visit Bar Harbor from all over the world and though the village can be quite crowded in the month of August, our house is located 5 miles down the road and feels quite serene even in the busiest months. For further information on the Park, the Internet has lots of information. Activities in and around the park include hiking, biking, swimming, sailing and kayaking, **Whale Watching** (lots of whales in the summer) , rock climbing, canoeing, bird watching and lots more!
