Overview

Peaks Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Well equipped 2+ bedrooms, 1.5 baths, sleeps 6

Located on Peaks Island, Maine, the Treehouse is the perfect place to get away from it all. Hop (or drive) on the Casco Bay Line Ferry from the famed Old Port of Portland, Maine and minutes later you will be stepping onto Peaks Island. The Treehouse is a short walk from the ferry dock, located in a quiet part of town. It is close to everything, but offers a place of restful solitude where the breezes blow through the maples & oaks the house was named for. The Treehouse is a fun and informal house with two plus bedrooms, two additional futon sofas, a bath and a half, and all the amenities you could wish for: VCR, DVD, Cable TV, Wireless Internet, W&D, DW, charcoal grill, an outside deck and fenced in yard. We invite you to bring your well behaved dog/cat (with deposit). Available by the week during summer, by the day ( 3-day min.) or week fall & spring, winter by special arrangement.

No car necessary!: The Treehouse is located about a half-mile from the ferry dock on Peaks Island. Since it is within easy walking distance of the ferry, there is no need to bring a car over unless you wish to. There is a parking garage located at the ferry dock in Portland, where you may leave your car. The grocery store, restaurants, beaches, library, indeed all of the island, are easy to walk to - or you can rent bicycles on the island.

About Steve Desterhaft

I spent the first 18 summers of my life on Little Diamond Island. As an adult, I can especially appreciate the conveniences offered by Peaks Island.

Why Steve Desterhaft chose Peaks Island

It's a perfect distance from the village - not too close to the weekend hustle and bustle, but not too far away from a quick run to the store, restaurants, stores, beach, fishing or ferry.

Charm + Cozy = Happiness

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Treehouse. (June 2013) Steve was great to work with throughout the rental process. My husband and I don’t have the budget to travel very much, but this was for our 30th anniversary and we had not been away on vacation for at least 4 years. Also, I had always rented through agencies and never directly from an owner, so it began as a very nerve-wracking experience. Luckily, everything just got better and better from that point.

We found The Treehouse to be just perfect: a really lovely, well equipped cottage, with all the charm I had hoped for. It is very cozy and comfortable, but not cramped. The house is in great shape, was very clean and had all the modern amenities you could want. The master bedroom is absolutely the best, with all those windows and light coming in.

It's exactly like the pictures shown on its web site. No bait-and-switch! I highly recommend renting The Treehouse and I dream of being able to return one day.

Quaint, Clean Great Location and Dog Friendly

The Treehouse is a perfect getaway! It's really close to everything you need to get to on the island- ferry, restaurants, grocery store. It's also private and secluded enough so it truly feels like a treehouse.

Charming and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I were on Peak's for a wedding a couldn't have asked for a more fun and comfortable place to stay. There were 5 adults in the house and we had plenty of room. It's close to everything. We would definitely stay there again and again!

A well maintained base camp for your adventures.

  • 4 of 5

Description is accurate. Property is on a quiet street just a short walk from the center of town and the ferry landing. The house is clean and well cared for. All the necessities are in the house from cooking equipment and supplies, to bedding, to books, puzzles, and videos for a rainy day. It's a good house to use as a base camp to head out of the woods on your daily adventures. We brought our bikes and found them perfect for getting anywhere on the island.

The owner is a very responsive and clear communicator willing to answer questions who obviously cares about the property. There's a detailed notebook on the kitchen table which covers many details and answered all our little questions.

We would definitely recommend the Treehouse to a friend.

A Cozy and Magical Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our 12-year-old and 15-year-old daughters just returned from a wonderful week at the Treehouse. For us, it was a "staycation" - we live in Portland, Maine, and thus had only a 20-minute ferry boat ride to get there. Yet, it was a world away from the hustle and bustle of the "Big City." The Treehouse is well-designed with many little "getaway nooks." Downstairs, there are a little sitting area by a woodstove opening to the kitchen, a covered porch leading into the kitchen, equipped with a card table where my daughter and I played many board games and a pull-out sofa, where my husband and I sat with coffee and read, an outdoor deck equipped with table, chairs, grill and grilling tools - perfect for dining al fresco - a separate little television room at the foot of the stairs, which can be closed off from the kitchen by French doors, and a little half-bath that amusingly is equipped, among other things, with a pencil sharpener. Upstairs, there are a master bedroom with little sitting area and small TV, convenient to a full bathroom, a "nook" within the master bedroom area with a twin bed, and a separate little room with two twin beds. There is room for a family to do things together, or to do things separately and not be in each other's way - a real benefit for a family such as ours with a tween and teen! Steve, the owner, provides many thoughtful conveniences, including staples such as flour, sugar and tea, books to read, games to play, helpful brochures, window fans in the bedrooms, and a nice variety of pots, pans and cooking utensils. Many people who have stayed here and written in a guest book at the Treehouse have described it as "cozy" - and that word does best describe it. And, of course, there's Peaks Island itself - with gorgeous views of the ocean and Portland skyline across the water. Lovely to walk and bike and sit on the rocks looking out at the schooners and sailboats and crashing waves.
