THE TREEHOUSE - CHARMING PEAKS ISLAND MAINE COTTAGE

Peaks Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Well equipped 2+ bedrooms, 1.5 baths, sleeps 6

Located on Peaks Island, Maine, the Treehouse is the perfect place to get away from it all. Hop (or drive) on the Casco Bay Line Ferry from the famed Old Port of Portland, Maine and minutes later you will be stepping onto Peaks Island. The Treehouse is a short walk from the ferry dock, located in a quiet part of town. It is close to everything, but offers a place of restful solitude where the breezes blow through the maples & oaks the house was named for. The Treehouse is a fun and informal house with two plus bedrooms, two additional futon sofas, a bath and a half, and all the amenities you could wish for: VCR, DVD, Cable TV, Wireless Internet, W&D, DW, charcoal grill, an outside deck and fenced in yard. We invite you to bring your well behaved dog/cat (with deposit). Available by the week during summer, by the day ( 3-day min.) or week fall & spring, winter by special arrangement.

No car necessary!: The Treehouse is located about a half-mile from the ferry dock on Peaks Island. Since it is within easy walking distance of the ferry, there is no need to bring a car over unless you wish to. There is a parking garage located at the ferry dock in Portland, where you may leave your car. The grocery store, restaurants, beaches, library, indeed all of the island, are easy to walk to - or you can rent bicycles on the island.

CHARMING AND RELAXING

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I were on Peak's for a wedding a couldn't have asked for a more fun and comfortable place to stay. There were 5 adults in the house and we had plenty of room. It's close to everything. We would definitely stay there again and again!

A WELL MAINTAINED BASE CAMP FOR YOUR ADVENTURES.

  • 4 of 5
Description is accurate. Property is on a quiet street just a short walk from the center of town and the ferry landing. The house is clean and well cared for. All the necessities are in the house from cooking equipment and supplies, to bedding, to books, puzzles, and videos for a rainy day. It's a good house to use as a base camp to head out of the woods on your daily adventures. We brought our bikes and found them perfect for getting anywhere on the island.
The owner is a very responsive and clear communicator willing to answer questions who obviously cares about the property. There's a detailed notebook on the kitchen table which covers many details and answered all our little questions.
We would definitely recommend the Treehouse to a friend.

A COZY AND MAGICAL HIDEAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I and our 12-year-old and 15-year-old daughters just returned from a wonderful week at the Treehouse. For us, it was a "staycation" - we live in Portland, Maine, and thus had only a 20-minute ferry boat ride to get there. Yet, it was a world away from the hustle and bustle of the "Big City." The Treehouse is well-designed with many little "getaway nooks." Downstairs, there are a little sitting area by a woodstove opening to the kitchen, a covered porch leading into the kitchen, equipped with a card table where my daughter and I played many board games and a pull-out sofa, where my husband and I sat with coffee and read, an outdoor deck equipped with table, chairs, grill and grilling tools - perfect for dining al fresco - a separate little television room at the foot of the stairs, which can be closed off from the kitchen by French doors, and a little half-bath that amusingly is equipped, among other things, with a pencil sharpener. Upstairs, there are a master bedroom with little sitting area and small TV, convenient to a full bathroom, a "nook" within the master bedroom area with a twin bed, and a separate little room with two twin beds. There is room for a family to do things together, or to do things separately and not be in each other's way - a real benefit for a family such as ours with a tween and teen! Steve, the owner, provides many thoughtful conveniences, including staples such as flour, sugar and tea, books to read, games to play, helpful brochures, window fans in the bedrooms, and a nice variety of pots, pans and cooking utensils. Many people who have stayed here and written in a guest book at the Treehouse have described it as "cozy" - and that word does best describe it. And, of course, there's Peaks Island itself - with gorgeous views of the ocean and Portland skyline across the water. Lovely to walk and bike and sit on the rocks looking out at the schooners and sailboats and crashing waves.

RELAXING AND LOVELY

  • 5 of 5
What a gem on Peaks Island! The Treehouse is within walking distance of just about everything. We started each morning walking the dogs down to the ferry dock and back, reading and drinking coffee on the shady deck, and sometimes heading out to pick blackberries in the center of the island. The well equipped kitchen had everything we needed to make blackberry crumble pie! Everything was just as advertised, and clean and charming. My daughter enjoyed the swing in the yard, seeing the sun set over Portland at the end of the road each night, and going back to play games in the TV room before bed. The dogs loved the fenced in yard and generous porch. My husband and I loved how simple our days were. Everything was relaxing and lovely.

THE TREEHOUSE - PEAKS ISLAND MAINE COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
This is a great location on Peaks Island because you can walk to the stores, restaurants, ferry and beaches without the use of a car. My purpose of the visit was to have my grand kids come over from Portland on the ferry and return in the evening when they did not stay overnight. The ferry ride is only 15 minutes. It is also possible to bring a car over if someone needs transportation. It should be noted that on busy weekends you may sit in your car waiting the second ferry to go across to Portland. The ferry only holds 13 cars. There is a large bicycle rental center.

This house is great for kids in that it is close to everything but once you go up the street it is quiet. Also has a fenced in yard and a deck over looking it. There are many sleeping possibilities but my grand kids loved the smaller room with the 2 twin beds.

The beach we went to was never crowded...it was to the right at the end of the street and down a side road...there is another that seemed more popular and picturesque but we loved having the beach to ourselves...a great place at sundown. Another great place to see the sunset is on the ferry to or from Portland. Whether you want the quietness of the beach or a bustling town it is all convenient.

The house furnishes lots of games and sitting areas so that is one thing to leave home. A wagon..or cart may be helpful to bring things up from the store. We found a produce market close to the Portland ferry to the right of the casco bay lines when you exit...on the other side of the street. Local vegetables that beat the food store on the island. It does close at 7 p.m. The entrance looks like a garage door.

I did lock myself out once, since the kids played with the door lock and I left the key on the table thinking I did not need to lock on the island. Steve, the owner, happened to be on the island and came right over to open it....Leave a key on a hook outside to avoid this.

I would recommend this rental to a family, and will consider returning. I would think September is even a nicer time of the year.
