Getting away from it all....:
This little cottage is nestled by a grassy marsh facing Nantucket sound. It's mature plantings offer great privacy. It is a small neighborhood composed of a few seasonal and year-round residents. The neighboring public Cockle Cove Beach is gated and admission is charged to those who choose to drive there, but it is only a few hundred yards from your door so there is no fee charged (to pedestrians or cyclists). The stretch of beach between creeks is about 4000 feet long. The water is warm in the summer and shallow for a great distance. The beach is machine groomed regularly in the summer to rake up seaweed on the shore, leaving a nice sandy beach. Because the sound is protected by the distant Monomoy Island, there is usually no dangerous surf or current, as there is on Lighthouse beach. Cockle Cove is a great place to swim, wade or for beachcombing.
Life at the cottage....:
The house is simple, as a beach house should be. Unlike many over-modernized homes, this cottage retains the character that summers at the Cape used to have. Everything is on one level. The floors are wood, and the windows offer the ocean breeze. There is a telephone and cell reception. Cable Television and a DVD player are provided. The kitchen has an electric stove and should please most chefs. The fireplace is suitable for small fires. A few Duraflame logs are in the closet for your enjoyment. The couch is actually a queen size futon that can be an extra bed in a pinch. Occupancy is limited to six people, but four is a more comfortable number. The neighbors are the Landlords. There is very little yard but with nearly a mile of beach at hand, there is more than enough room for tossing a frisbee. Walking in the fragile grassy marsh is not allowed as your footprints will last a decade. There is no smoking inside of the building.
The view...:
Imagine waking up to the gentle lapping of waves and the call of a blue heron. Sitting down on the private deck with a cup of coffee, there is just the ocean and you. What a great place to get your thoughts together or to finally begin writing your great American novel. The view will change and delight throughout the day. You might see lonely clammers, red tailed hawks and osprey, boats and finally gold and rose colors of sunset. After a romantic dinner, you will be treated to a display of stars and moonlight on the water. How will you ever muster the courage to return to your normal life? If that is not enough, you can venture into the town of Chatham for a Friday night band concert, a romantic dinner at one of the lovely restaurants, or really great shopping at the many boutiques on Chatham's Main street. Day trips to other towns will bring new discoveries to be talked about at your evening dinner.
