Asheville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Welcome! Come stay with us at our charming cabin and enjoy some good old Southern Appalachian hospitality. Situated on two private acres north of Asheville and less than 10 minutes from downtown Asheville.

As its largest city, along with its central location in the southern Appalachian mountains, Asheville has become the nerve center of the area simply known as 'WNC' (Western North Carolina). Set in the beautiful French Broad Valley, which flows northwest to the Mississippi basin, Asheville is surrounded by the highest mountains in eastern America, some of the oldest in the world.

The temperate climate enjoys four distinct seasons, with comfortable summers, mild winters, early spring and panoramic fall colors. The geographic features, combined with the climate, allows the area an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking to fishing to skiing and golf. A vibrant downtown Asheville offers a cultural diversity hard to find anywhere else in the US. Asheville attracts internationally known artists and is home to artists of world renown in every genre. Shops, antiques, artist's studios and restaurants, from local grills to fine dining, are all a part of what makes Asheville unique.

So...just here for a few days or for a little while longer? Remember, a whole lot of nothing to do is fine and relaxing too! Almost anything you would want to do is here or nearby (ok, there's no ocean, check out VRBO for that, y'know?). Situated between the Smokies and the Blue Ridge, Asheville makes a great home base. From Boone to Brasstown, Mt. Pisgah to Mt. Mitchell, you can get there from Abner's Cabin.

Come stay with us and see why we think our southern mountains are one of the most beautiful places in the country to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Once again we have had a wonderful time. Last time, were here in the fall, and enjoyed the cool air and beautiful fall foliage. And this time when we drove up, we saw your lovely hostas and lacy blue hydrangea. They were so vibrant and natural. Thanks once again for letting us enjoy the area by staying at Abner's Cabin. It very much makes us feel at home. We are branching out more and more to explore the area every time we come. P.S. we loved watching the wild turkeys and their babies from the front porch.

Moving to the Western NC Mountains from Charlotte NC back in 1990 was a new venture for my family. Having lived in the area and falling in love with it, lends me to call Asheville my home. Being in sales, I get to see so many beautiful properties in the greater Asheville area and I am grateful to have an older cabin to offer folks to rent that is reminescent of the cabins I stayed in during my youth at summer camps across Western North Carolina.

Leslie Osborne purchased this cabin in 2004

Abner Gwaltney built the cabin in 1928 for his wife and children. Since then, the cabin has passed through several generations of families until my parents purchased the home as their summer getaway from the heat of the lowlands of NC. I purchased the cabin in 2004 when my parents decided they could no longer make the trip to Asheville. By that time, I had moved to Asheville and decided to keep the cabin available for family memebers to use. In 2008 I decided to open the cabin to the public because of its great location to downtown Asheville.

Accessabilty is the greatest asset. Privacy and the rural setting that lends to a quiet and peaceful stay. Please read the reviews!!!

SO COMFORTABLE!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I (and our 11 year old Shih-tzu) thoroughly enjoyed staying in Abner's Cabin. The location was great, the view was wonderful, and the cabin was so comfortable!
On the way to the cabin, I noticed a restaurant called The Fireplace. Once we got in and settled, we discussed supper and I mentioned it. It was within ~5 minutes from the cabin and the food was excellent! We ate there both Friday and Saturday nights.
This comfortableness of this cabin gave me the feeling of being in my 'home away from home'. For this reason and many more, are definitely thinking about staying again!

WONDERFUL STAY AT ABNER'S CABIN!

Wonderful stay at Abner's Cabin!
  • 5 of 5
My family stayed at Abner's Cabin and would most definitely recommend staying here! The owner made herself available to any of our needs and questions and was most helpful. The property is beautiful and the house was cozy and clean. If you’re looking for sparkling brand new amenities then this is not the place for you. What the cabin lacks in newness makes up for with its charming qualities and location. It was a plus that we were able to bring out small dog. He loved running around the spacious yard. The beds and sleeper sofa we very comfortable for our stay. I also must mention that the hot water heater was awesome. We took back to back showers and it never got cold. You get a beautiful cabin in a scenic location that is super close to both Weaverville and Asheville for a little downtown excitement. It offers all the basic necessities you could need and more. Perfect for a couples weekend or a few close friends looking to get out of town. If you're looking to be around nature but still be accessible to all that Asheville has to offer then I would consider staying here. My family hopes to visit again. Abner’s Cabin was very much a home away from home for us.

GREAT LITTLE PLACE TO STAY

  • 5 of 5
We really had a lovely time here. The cabin was super clean and had lots of little touches that made our stay enjoyable. For example, there were staples in the pantry for cooking that of course we had forgotten to bring. My kids were delighted to be visited by burrows on the other side of the fence. We'd definitely stay here again.

MR. AND MRS. AND 7-YEAR OLD DOG (AKA OUR BABY)

  • 5 of 5
This is our third stay at Abner's Cabin, and we have enjoyed every visit. It always feels like our home away from home, and Leslie has been very accommodating. The house is very warm and cozy, and the grounds are lovely. There are even horses and donkeys next door, and we were able to feed them apples and carrots. Also, the cabin is between Woodfin and Weaverville, and we visited both towns daily. We also walked around both Beaver Lake and Lake Louise Park. It's a great place for a vacation!!!

GREAT GETAWAY!

  • 4 of 5
Three generation stay: Infant daughter, parents, and grandparents. It was great to have the comforts of home travelling with a small child. Only about 15 minutes from downtown, we were worried it would be too secluded but it was not. Several reviews mentioned it being difficult to find, but Google Maps got us there with no problem! Neighbors had horses and donkeys we could enjoy looking out the window during breakfast. Clean, cozy, and enough helpful items stocked in the kitchen and bathroom.

CHARMING CABIN WITH COUNTRY FEEL

  • 4 of 5
Our family stayed in Abner's Cabin in late September and very much enjoyed the property. We were looking for dog friendly accommodations, and our dog was thrilled watching the horses and donkeys roaming the fields next door. The cabin is a relatively quick 12 minute drive to Asheville. You could tell the owners took good care of the property and wanted to make the visit wonderful for this guests. The only downside was a bit of a musty smell, but it is an older cabin so I suppose to be expected. Overall, we enjoyed the space and would recommend it to someone looking for an out of town options.

Owner's Response: We are glad you brought the musty smell to our attention. We have never had a comment about that before in all of the years we have been operating and were concerned when we received your review. We did have the A/C serviced and found that one of the duct work lines had separated from a vent which could have allowed air from under the home to enter the house. We have asked several travelers since your stay and no one has commented about any problems with unusual odors or musty smells. In the future I would suggest that you please notify any owner of any issues so they can be addressed immediately.
