Enjoy winter skiing, summer rafting, zip-rides, fishing, hiking, leaf-peeping, sight-seeing in and around scenic Charlemont. Charlemont, MA is located on the historic Mohawk Trail, which runs along the Deerfield River. In fall and summer whitewater rafting, kayaking, tubing, and fishing are available on the Deerfield and nearby Cold River, which runs through the Mohawk Trail State Forest. The Forest offers opportunities for hiking, climbing, and leaf-peeping. Charlemont is home to the Berkshire East Ski Area, which has 45 trails and 5 lifts for downhill and cross-country skiing, makes snow if necessary. In summer, Berkshire East and Zoar Outdoors both offer zip rides. Charlemont is close to historic Shelburne Falls, North Adams, and Williamstown, all located on the Mohawk Trail, and just south of the Vermont border.

Delightful area, cozy house

I rented this home to convene with several friends for a long weekend. We're all writers, so we anticipated doing a bit of everything--discussing our work, perhaps taking time to write or read, exploring the area, doing outdoorsy stuff, making a few good meals for each other. While we didn't get to do everything on that list, this house is an excellent site for any and all of them. The reservation process was a breeze and the owner was very accommodating of our desire for a long weekend as opposed to a Friday through Sunday or a week-long rental. The property was just as the owner described it and then some: a well-appointed kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, warm, attractive furnishings, a wonderful deck off the kitchen... it was a great retreat. And no one in our party had ever been to the Berkshires before--what a wonderful area! We definitely plan to come back, whether for skiing, kayaking, hiking, to take in the arts in the area, or just to relax. I highly recommend this property to others.

Quiet retreat surrounded by State parks

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mill Brook House this past August. We had beautiful weather--warm during the day and nice and chilly over night--and cooked some amazing fresh meals with all the herbs in the owner's herb garden (she invited us to use them)! During the days, we explored Western Mass, including Williamstown, North Adams, Amherst, and of course Shelbourne Falls--all of which are an easy and scenic drive away.

The House itself is well-furnished and charmingly rustic. Our dog loved running around the fenced-in back yard off of the large back deck.

The new covered bridge--a stone's throw from the house--is really a gem! A great place for trout fisherman too, as there are some amazing trout streams tucked away in the nearby state parks.

Surprisingly Cozy

To be honest, I was a little skeptical about the size of this house. But we were taken aback when we arrived! The outside could use some maintenance but the inside was immaculate and cozy, yet big enough to sleep our party. Reservation was convenient and Kathe was very detailed with all the instructions that you would ever need for the duration of your stay. The neighbors are few but very friendly! Would stay at the house again if we are ever in the area.

The description regarding the location of the property was accurate. It was clean and well maintained. The place I was looking for with lots of trees, private and with a beautiful view from the rear deck. I will recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a tranquil setting with natural sounds surrounding you.
