Enjoy a secluded lakeside retreat in down east Maine. Relax on the shores by yourself. No neighbors are near or within sight of the cabin. Spend your quiet time watching the water, paddling the wooden canoe, enjoying nature, or rocking in the rocking chairs on the deck. The cabin looks down the full length of the lake and rests a mere 15 feet from the water's edge. Take the classic wooden canoe to explore the pristine lake. Few boats or people explore this lake, because there isn't a great boat landing on this lake. A diner/convenience store is only 7 miles away. Plus, you have excellent ocean and hiking access in Bar Harbor (2 hours), Machias (1.5 hours), Winter Harbor/Schoodic Point (1 hour), or greater Ellsworth (1 hour). Guests will have a custom guide to great places to visit while in the area. You'll walk a nice hiking trail through the woods to reach the cabin. As you reach the cabin, the blue lake, a humble log cabin, and a sweeping view greets you immediately.

Located on Spruce Mountain Lake in Beddington, Maine, this cabin provides guests with easy access to mountains, ocean cliffs, beaches, and interesting fishing villages. Bar Habor and Acadia is 2 hours away. But I encourage guests to walk ocean cliffs in Lubec, see an authentic fishing village in Eastport, or hike Schoodic Mountain. Guests will have a custom-made guide to downeast Maine. You have a lot to see whether you visit the nearby towns, or just spend time at the cabin. You can catch yellow perch and pickerel, go swimming, paddle the lake in the canoe, explore the forests, or check out the dirt roads and trails. If you need a meal cooked for you, the Airline Snack Bar is 7 miles from camp. There are very few camps on the lake, which makes this cabin special.

There is a simple sink for washing dishes. Guests will have 5 gallons of well water provided at the start of the stay. A spring is a few miles away, and the Airline Snack Bar provides water as well.

Farmers Markets: If you like local food, be sure to visit the fun farmers markets there area. Travel about an hour to the Winter Harbor on Tuesday from 9-noon. Be sure to drive to the top of Schoodic head, walk along Schoodic Point while you are there. But this market is available in July and August only. On Monday and Thursday, the Ellsworth Market is an hour away. On Saturday, you can go to the Ellsworth or Machias Farmers Market. Guests can have a fun and educational experience with downeast Maine farmers and artists. You should also know that my wife provides tasty and authentic Indian food at the Saturday Ellsworth market and the Tuesday Winter Harbor market.

Nearby Hiking Trails: The cabin is close to numerous hiking trails. Lead Mountain is just a few miles north of the cabin. Schoodic Mountain is in Sullivan (1 hour southwest of the cabin) and has trails going up the east and west peaks. Caribou, Catherine, and Tunk Mountains are all north of Schoodic Mountain. Quoddy Head in Lubec (1.5 hours away) offers great ocean-side hiking along beautiful cliffs. Great place! Plus, there is a great network of hiking and camping trails along the ocean in Cutler. Cutler is an hour from the cabin. You will need to travel east of Machias to visit Cutler. Guests will have a nice hiking guide.

Ski: I've cross country skied and snowshoed at the cabin numerous times. Inquire about a winter stay.
