Jamaica House Rental Photos and Description
House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7-8)
Enjoy the refreshing summer air of Vermont.
This is a perfect area for any season - so much to enjoy, especially summer sports, Fall foliage, and skiing in winter.
Enjoy your vacation in the small, friendly village of Jamaica, located in the West River Valley where so much is within walking distance - swimming, hiking, groceries, coffee shop, State Park, etc.
This is a traditional white frame house (built 200 years ago), on a side street off the Main Street. The big red barn is where we store the firewood, park two cars, and it is connected to the house.
The house has four bedrooms and two and half bathrooms. This summer saw completion of a major expansion, providing a second double bedroom, with a Queen-size bed.
The house has been our family vacation home for over thirty years, and is rented out weekly in spring, summer and fall, and each year for the ski season. [There are no short-term winter rentals.] Thus the house is well set-up for visitors.
One of the features is the way in which the living room and the country kitchen provide one big open space. They are distinct separate areas, but are open to one another. Thus the person cooking is also a part of the group sitting in the living room around the fire. (The total distance from the end of the kitchen to the end of the living room is 36'.)
The fire is a wood-burning stove in the living room. However, the house has a good oil-fired central heating system.
House has been lovingly maintained, is very well equipped, and retains its character. (The furnishings reflect the English background and extensive travels of the owners with pottery, paintings, and wall hangings from around the globe, but especially from Britain.)
The Village of Jamaica has a range of small shops and restaurants: Coffee Shop, Gift Shops, Furniture Shop, Art Gallery, Swiss Restaurant, Village Inn - and the gathering place for everyone is the Jamaica General Store which sells just about everything including Vermont cheese (and they will also hold your newspapers for you -- Wall St. Journal, New York Times, Boston Globe, Brattleboro Reformer.)
The location of the house is ideal for children - they can explore the village without crossing a road. For example, our grandchldren enjoy the short walk up to the general store to collect the newspapers in time for breakfast, passing the library where they are members. For older ones, they can walk (just down the road) into the State Park, scramble down to the brook, go and visit the shops, etc.
Come - enjoy the refreshing air of Vermont! Check out the calendar, and see the weeks in August that are vacant.

About E. H. DENTON
Over 30 years ago, this was intended as the 'retreat' from the academic life in Boston. Over the years it has been our family holiday house, the children have grown up, and now the grandchildren consider it their vacation home. There is something for every generation - badminton in the garden, sports in the neighborhood (such as hiking, swimming, canoeing, riding, tennis), fresh fruits and vegetables, summer theatre, and flea markets. And the pace of life is different - we all agree, it's the perfect place to unwind.
E. H. DENTON purchased this house in 1976
Guestbook comments from the owner
It was an extremely hot week, but a very enjoyable stay. Our family enjoyed walking and fishing around Jamaica State Park, and the town is lovely and quaint. Shopping in Manchester and Bennington were great day trips, along with some good eateries there. Family dinner up at the Ball Mountain Lake was beautiful with a view of the mountains that Vemront is known for. Quechee Gorge and Woodstock were also beautiful. We especially enjoyed shopping at local gift shops and stores that provided items from local artists. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
