Paradise Found

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the HardRock Garden Farm for two weeks in March. The last week we were joined by our son, a student at Hawaii Pacific University. We found this retreat to be exactly what we were looking for--a romantic, quiet, out of the way location with breathtaking views and friendly atmosphere. Mike and Vika were very good hosts. Mike entertained us with his knowledge of the Island and of farming on the Island. We also enjoyed his wide range of knowledge about just about everything (and all along I thought the most interesting man in the world was featured on Dos Equis Beer commercials). We had everything we needed and Vika was delightful responding promptly to questions about things we needed. We love the sleepy and low key atmosphere of South Kona. The geography can be stunning. If you want fancy and high class accommodations, don't stay here, but if you like being outdoors and comfortable, you can't go wrong.

Beautiful Island Getaway

  • 5 of 5
Vika and Mike's property is truly a beautiful piece of land. The hales are perfect for two couples or a family of 4. The outdoor kitchen is enjoyable all day long, even if it rains, with beautiful views of the coast and sunsets. We loved exploring the property with all of the various fruit trees and wildlife. We especially got a kick out of the wild turkeys and chickens that roam the island! Using the property as our home base, we explored the entire island. It is easy to get anywhere you need with the highway being a quick drive up the road. We truly enjoyed the peace and quiet that this property provided to us, none of us have ever seen so many stars in our lives. You will not be disappointed in staying here, the value of this property for what you pay is amazing! Thanks for a wonderful week Mike and Vika!

Great Place to stay!

Our party of 4, (2 couples), had a fantastic stay at this unique accommodation! We loved everything about it. The outdoor kitchen was extra special in the mornings, when the birds dropped by for a visit. We loved it! Thanks for a great stay!

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5
The moment we came onto the property we felt ourselves relax...the outdoor kitchen, comfortable lanais, the hammock and the peaceful surroundings. The accommodations are secluded, comfortable and simple with the perfect "old Hawaii" feel. My favorite parts of the day were sitting in the outdoor kitchen early in the morning with a great cup of Kona coffee and listening to the birds; then returning in the early evening to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the spectacular sunsets. Mike and Vika were awesome hosts, easily available but really allowed us to have our privacy as well. We travelled with our children ages 11 and 13 who both said they would choose HK again over any place we had seen or stayed.

Something out of the ordinary!

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for something unique and out of the ordinary this place is for you. If your looking for a coastal resort you should look elsewhere unless you truly are looking for seclusion, peace, solitude and relaxation... that's guaranteed here. The cottages are nestled in a little piece of jungle/rainforest on a hillside coffee plantation overlooking Kealakekua Bay. Nature surrounds you amongst the coconut palms and banana, papaya, passion fruit and coffee trees and if your a photographer the outdoor kitchen jutting out a little from the hillside offers an ideal platform from which to set up a tripod and camera. Evenings are alive with the chirps of geckos, frogs, crickets and birds that can be heard through the openness of the screened cottages. We were fortunate to be there to watch the full moon from the cottage window as it hovered behind the palm tree out over the ocean. The owners are great hosts with a wealth of information for things to do on the island and giving directions in getting there. The location is only 15 minutes to some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii and is also central if you plan to take a drive to Hilo one day and to the Volcano on another. It is also just a 20 min trip into Kona's cruise port if you prefer to do a little shopping. We took the time to sit back, relax, breathe it all in and enjoy the 100% Kona coffee and Hawaiian fruits that our hosts provided to us picked right from their property. I definitely recommend this little piece of paradise for those inclined to want for something a little different for a change.

Nature's Paradise on the Big Island

Nature's Paradise on the Big Island
  • 5 of 5
We've stayed in several different types of rentals (condo, house) on other islands in Hawaii. This was our first trip to the big island and our first time staying on an organic coffee farm in cottages. Two cottages were perfect for us. Each cottage was appointed with a beautiful, high-end tiled bathroom and wonderful showers. The bedrooms had TVs, comfy beds and plenty of room to move in and unpack for our trip. The open-air kitchen was darling -- it had everything we needed. We made breakfast there every morning -- sometimes toast and fruit, sometimes eggs and ALWAYS coffee. The coffee was from the farm itself and it is the best coffee we've ever had, hands down.

Mike and Vika showed us the farm and how they make coffee. They made us feel so welcomed and at home from the moment we arrived. We enjoyed some of the fresh fruit from the farm itself, too, which was delightful. They were also very helpful in suggesting local restaurants (all wonderful) as well as beaches and activities.

The wonder of the property itself is incredible. If you want to work out in the morning, no problem. Just hike the property and you will get a great workout. When you come back from whatever wonderful thing you've done that day, you'll return to a beautiful, natural paradise with birds and flowers and plants and sunsets to die for.

This is truly a unique place to stay -- a mix of luxury, a little touch of camping (but without any sacrifices) and immersion in the outdoors. To me, this place is synonymous with the Big Island. After staying here, I couldn't imagine staying in a condo or hotel in beautiful Hawaii.
