Photos and Description of the Kalkaska vacation cottage rental
Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Enjoy your stay at our cozy cottage on Manistee Lake. This little cottage in the woods is quaint, and is a place where wonderful memories can be made! This cottage is very clean and comfortable. It is decorated in a lodge style, very nice and quite comfortable! It is a perfect setting that offers something for everyone in your party.

For those who like to cook, there is a newer kitchen and it is stocked with just about all the pots, pans and utensils you would need. We have a waffle iron and mixer for blending some fresh concoctions to enjoy down by the water while watching the sunset.

You can buy the freshest fruits and vegetables, locally grown, home made sauces and baked goods in Kalkaska, not far from the 'CHERRY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD' at the well known -- CHERRY STREET MARKET. See website-- wwwcherrystreetmarket.

Oh' and don't forget, you can cook a great tasting meal using our wood bar-be-que too. (see picture)

Manistee Lake has good fishing for Walleye, Small and Largemouth Bass, pike and various panfish. The lake is not crowded and is fun to fish, explore and look at wildlife, like the bald eagle. Bring your boat or kayaks.

Whether you want to relax and read a good book at the waters edge, play golf nearby at a beautiful golf coarse, go fishing on your boat or kayak on a very uncrowded and scenic lake, take a picturesque canoe trip down the magnificent Manistee River not very far away. Boating, sailing or waterski the wide open Manistee Lake.

Great sightseeing is close by, take a short drive to Traverse City, Petoskey, or other surrounding destinations, it is all there for you.

The lovely wooded lot, sandy beach and boat dock, will provide you a place to really relax and have a great time. Just bring your jet ski or boat and launch it across the lake, less than five minutes from the property, and there is a boat dock to use for your visit.

Looking for night life and entertainment? It is just a short 25 minute drive to the newly expanded Turtle Creek Casino! Look for antiques in nearby towns. The cottage is also just a few miles from 1 truly beautiful golf course with incredible views, and about 8 miles to another course. If golf is your pleasure there many more courses within an hour.

The surrounding woods are wonderful for hiking, biking and off roading on the extensive ORV Trail system. There is a dirt bike trail just minutes away from the cottage. Take advantage of the cooler spring and fall weather and ride the many trails that are nearby.

Manistee Lake is especially popular for families with younger children as the sandy bottom extends out and is shallow and safe for play. The beach and shallow water at the property edge is really great fun for dogs to play as their feet can touch the bottom for quite a way out. Fish, waterski, swim, the lake is perfect for all. You can use our kayak and cruise the lake. Have a BBQ on the outdoor river rock BBQ, and take in the fabulous sunsets our lake is known for. We provide some firewood so you can enjoy campfires in the fire pit at the lakes edge...bring your marshmallows!

About Steve

The whole family along with our dogs, have wonderful memories at the cottage. We enjoyed many fantastic campfires at the waters edge and some great BBQ's while enjoying the outdoors in Northern Michigan. We took many trail rides on dirt bikes and hikes along the many trails and rivers located minutes away. When the time came we experienced some fantastic bird hunting in state land while the fall colors took hold.

Steve purchased this cottage in 1993
Why Steve chose Kalkaska

Easy drive from Southern Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. The location is centrally located, and close to some very nice towns.

What makes this cottage unique

There are many, but for starters. The lake is big and not congested. The fishing is good along with the ability for doing about all of the water sports.

There is a fire pit at the waters edge, where you can watch the sunsets while roasting marshmellows.

Next, the very close proximity to many trails for offroading, biking and hiking etc.

Then there are some beautiful rivers that are not very far away. They offer excellent fly fishing and canoeing.

In the fall there is hunting for deer and birds on many square miles of state land not to far away.

I could keep going!!!

Only a 20 minute drive to 2 exceptional fly fishing and fabulous canoeing rivers, canoe rentals available on the Manistee River. Other boat rentals such as fishing or pontoon boats are available to rent near Grayling. Usage of our canoe (on our lake!) is for you to use, while looking for the eagle or for pleasure. We are surrounded by beautiful woods and great state ORV trails, excellent dirt bike trails. They are less than five minutes away. Just get on the bike and go in Kalkaska County. Very easily accessible. A beautiful golf coarse is a very short distance away, with great views and dining. Also, more golf courses in Kalkaska and in nearby Traverse City, Petoskey or other great areas.

There is a water ski coarse across the lake from the cottage at the camp. It's available to use by anyone who likes the water ski challenge.

What a fall color show!!

Brought my mom here for a week of relaxing after some friends recommended it. Cute and cozy, it was just right for reading, puzzling and catching up on those DVDs we never have time for. The shower was a little difficult for my mom due to its' small size, but we made it work. We made great use of the fireplace on some cool days and enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen, but everything else paled in comparison to the view out the window.
We saw spectacular sunsets and the lake ranging from whitecaps to a surface like glass. We had hoped for fall color, but what transpired over the week we were there was nothing short of amazing!! The color across the lake was unbelievable! I enjoy it every day as my computer screensaver.
The lake and beach would have been very inviting during a warmer time of year, and looked like a great place for kids to play.
We very much enjoyed our visit. This is a clean, comfortable rental, and the owners made everything easy.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your nice comments. Very glad to hear you had a nice time.
The lake is beautiful all year long and we certainly enjoy it as well!
Thanks again.

Cottage was pleasantly as expected by the pictures and description. Very clean and comfortable. Steve was very helpful when we called for help in turning on the heater. Weather could have cooperated a little more but it was what we expected for Michigan in September. Would love to come and stay again possibly in early summer. Perfect location for us.

We have been coming here for a number of years and have never been disapointed. The place is very cute and the lake is great. We came up on the only week this sumnmer below 90 degrees and still had a blast. My husband and kids caught 3 large crappie and a bunch of perch in the lake. We will be back next year to continue making memories.
