Comfortable and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We came down to Vail with two other couples and stayed in Dougs condo. The location was perfect- close to the mountain but far enough away to feel like we were in a secluded mountain home. The proximity of the bus stop and the grocery store made everything even easier. With a fully stocked kitchen, large dining room table and comfortable couches, we were thrilled to eat each meal at home. We were also provided with a recycling trash can downstairs which was hugely helpful. There were plenty of linens, towels and blankets and the house warmed up quickly once we turned on the heat. The hot tub was just what we needed at the end of each ski day. So relaxing! Thanks so much for providing us with a clean, comfortable temporary home. We will definitely rent again. Thanks!

Excellent Find

  • 5 of 5

We are a big family of 6 (2 adults, 4 children), and we enjoyed every second of our trip!! We stayed Saturday March 20 - Wednesday March 25. The location of the home was perfect. Our daughters each made their own snowmen, while our boys created slides down the mountain; all while my wife and I watched over them while sipping champagne in the hot jacuzzi as it was snowing!! The home was in great condition and looked the same as it does in the pictures. There were plenty of towels, and linens. There were plenty of dishes. All the appliances were stainless steel. The fireplace was nice too, especially when it snowed. The grill worked perfectly fine. There were humidifiers as well which a huge plus because it does get dry in the mountains. The owner is very cool. We didn't need anything while we were there because everything worked just fine. But if we did, we knew the owner was only a text message away.

With regards to distance from everything, the owner says just 5 minutes from Safeway (huge grocery store), but it's literally only 2 minutes away, heck 1 minute with no traffic. And the liquor store is right next to the Safeway, but it closes at 10 pm. Vail Ski Lodge was just 5 minutes away, and Copper Mountain was only 15 minutes. Both were awesome! We all liked Copper Mountain the best. The home offers plenty of storage for skiing, or you can leave on your vehicle because the area seemed to be really safe.

The (2) things I can honestly think of that could be changed are the toilet in the master bedroom and the door handles to the house. I'm 6'2, so a rounded toilet is a bit too small for me. An elongated toilet would have been much more comfortable. And the door handles are tricky at first, but once you figure out it's no problem.

Over all, we loved this place, and will definitely come back. Thank you Doug!

Great Value in Vail

  • 4 of 5

Recently stayed 4 nights in this condo for a ski trip to Vail. Overall our group had a positive experience, but here are some highlights of pros and cons.

Pros:

1) Clean and kept up nicely

2) Private with nice views

3) Private hot tub nice

4) Well stocked kitchen

5) Good value

6) Owner easy to work with and responsive

Cons or Considerations

1) Hot tub pretty small. 4 people comfortable, 5 pretty packed.

2) No shower or bar soap to be found. I've stayed at dozens and dozens of VRBO properties and this was the first to not have any. Had to go to store to buy which was kind of pain

3) Not enough towels for 8 people (which is what it sleeps).

4) Not enough blankets. For example, the bunk bed room had 4 mattress none of which had a blanket or comforter on. Therefore, had to search through the condo to find mix/match blankets of different sizes and quality. Would think it would be easy to just go and buy a nice blanket or cheap comforter for each bed in the house

5) The Queen Size mattress was old and not comfortable. The rest were fine

6) There is a fireplace, but no wood to use. Pretty much useless unless you want to go and search for, buy, and carry up firewood after a day of skiing. No thanks.

7) No garage to park your car in so have to clear snow off everyday.

8) Condo at the end of an uphill road. 4 wheel drive is a must!

9) As others have mentioned, it's kind of a strange layout. There are 5 floors total, but the actual condo is on the first 2 floors. You enter on the 5th, so a lot of stairs to get in and out.

10) You have to drive to Vail to ski. Not close enough to walk to the free bus station (maybe without equipment and in the summer, but not with an icy downhill road with snow).

Looks like my cons list is longer than pros, but most of these items can be easily fixed or improved. I only put as a recommendation. Like one of the women who stayed with us said. "This place is nice, but you can tell it;s it's a man who is managing it. The little things are missing". This may or may not be true, but summed up the overall opinion of the group.

Owner's Response: -I counted the towels that are currently in the property. There are a total of 21 which does seem like plenty for 8 people. Extra towels are stored in the master bath and it's closet -There are also plenty of blankets folded in the closets for the bunk bedroom. I always make sure there are plenty of blankets, especially because it can get very cold in Vail. That is a must, so this is something that I've always made sure there are plenty of -The condo is at the end of the hill, but that is the advantage of the property. You have a better view and there is also a national forest next to the property instead of another house. This makes it more private for my tenants which is one of the reasons why I chose to buy this property -Regarding the soaps, we find the best practice is to have people bring or buy their own. This is because when we have stocked the house with supplies in the past, people end up taking them home like it's a hotel. Safeway is just a short 5 minute ride down the hill and many people stock up on toiletries and groceries when they arrive in town -The property is not advertised as having a garage and having wipe off the snow in in the morning is a good thing! That means you have a great powder day ahead of you! :) -There are only 3 1/2 levels in the property

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

We had a great a great stay at this house; we were a party of 6 on a ski trip and this property is about 8/10 minutes driving to Vail slopes.

It is located as other guests posted, at the end of a driveway, which provides a full sense of privacy and spectacular unobstructed views from each and every room.

The kitchen with its open concept facing the living room invites to share and enjoy the whole space while cooking; it has a complete set of dishes, utensils and small appliances to make happy any chef to be. (Although we suggest that a serving tray and a kettle would be a nice and convenient addition).

The living room is cozy, warm, well decorated and has very confortable couches.

Although it has many stairs, it wasn’t a problem for us.

The rooms are comfortable and with a view.

We used and enjoyed the spa, grill and washer & dryer all of them worked perfectly and added a plus to our stay.

Overall, our stay couldn’t be better, this place exceeded our expectations and for sure we will book it again whenever we return to Vail.

Well-appointed Condo in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at this condo. Our group had a total of 6 people, and we rented the place a ski trip during MLK day weekend. As other reviews mention, the condo is located at the end of a drive way and is nice secluded from other properties. The place gets plenty of sunlight during the day and the living room space was just the right size. The kitchen and dining room area are also large and can easily sit 6-8 people. We used the bbq and hot tub, both of which were in good working order. The internet also worked perfectly. The best part is the location -- the condo is a short 5 minute drive to lion's head and it's around the corner from Safeway. Overall, it was a great stay and we'll definitely choose this location again if returning to Vail. Note that the property does have a number of stairs but that wasn't an issue for us at all.
