Home Away from Home

My wife and paid a visit to Asheville and chose this farmhouse to rent since it appeared from the ads to be more roomy, private, and home-like than a motel or B+B, to have a full kitchen, to be located in a beautiful mountain setting, and to have a hot tub! Each of these proved accurate. The house was clean and freshly painted and decorated. The house is obviously a labor of love. Even though there were provisions for infants and toddlers, such as a layette, a highchair, and safety plugs for electric outlets, we had the feeling that, if we had young children, we might be afraid they might damage some of the very nice furniture or accessories. [Others may not worry.] However, it was just the two of us old folks, and we paid more attention to such things as the very comfortable queen bed in the larger of the two bedrooms. [The other bedroom, which went unused, appeared to have an identical bed.] We each had our own closet in the larger bedroom, though it appeared there was only an armoire in the other bedroom. The kitchen was spacious and invited lots of use. The living room was adequate in size and comfy. All the usable space is on one floor, but there is a steep grassy slope down from the parking area to the entrance way into the kitchen, so wheelchairs or people with mobility problems might possibly find this a challenge. The front porch was nice for sitting and reading and taking in the magnificent view, when not in the hot tub, which occupied one end. A pair of house finches who nested in one of the porch's hanging planters were a bit uneasy with our presence so near their nursery, but they learned to tolerate us. We enjoyed the wild turkeys strutting in the field just below the house. We were about a 20 minute drive to downtown Asheville but closer to the shopping districts of Leicester and West Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore area, the French Broad River, and especially the River Arts District were also frequent destinations for us. We caught an Asheville Tourists baseball game and the great La Zoom comedy bus tour too. By the way, it's helpful to keep an eye on the trip odometer if driving to the house in the dark, as the street sign for the house kind of comes up suddenly after a long drive on the road leading to it. We could have picked a place closer to Asheville but we doubt we could have found a location so stunningly beautiful and peaceful as this.
Owner's Response: I am always so happy to hear from my guests that their stay met their expectations! I do my best to point out in what I write in my description everything I can think of anyone might be interested in knowing, or need to know. because I'm sure there are things about every vacation rental that might not suit all types of travelers. Although this house does live all on one floor, I don't advertise it for the handicap of elderly because there are narrow doorways and no entrance ramp. This farm house is perfect for family vacations as well as couples wanting peace and quiet and a mountain view!
