Whether you choose to relax along the river, or explore the surrounding countryside and famous cultural & historic sites, this large 17th century watermill is perfect for families and large parties of people who want to stay in a beautiful setting with stunning views. The main door down stairs gives way to a spacious living and dining room with fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen with an original firewood stove and oven. A modern hob and electric oven are also available. Between the kitchen and the dining room, the original mechanism of the watermill can still be admired. The living room gives access to a beautiful terrace, garden and a natural pool. The 5 bedrooms upstairs, all with en suite bathroom, sleep up to 10 adults and 4 children. The children have their “own” sleeping space on on the attic floors of the 2 duplex rooms. On the first floor there is another living and dining room with fireplace and a small kitchen, the perfect place to hide during the colder winter months.

The watermill stands on the banks of the Lozoya river on the crossing of a Roman road, nowadays a 50 km walking route which leads you over roman bridges from the medieval village of Buitrago to the world famous 14th century El Paular Benedictine Monastery. Surrounded by the mountains, alpine meadows and the oak forests of the Guadarrama Mountain National Park. From the terrace you overlook the river and a little lake.. Surrounded by water, even in summer temperature is very pleasant. This is paradise for nature lovers.. hiking, fishing, bird watching and mountain biking. But also a good point of departure for visits to Madrid, Segovia, San Lorenzo de el Escorial or the Royal Palace of San Ildefonso, a former summer retreat for the Spanish kings. In winter you can practice cross country skiing and sledding. While ski resorts are just a 30 minutes drive away.

  • There are 5 lovely bedrooms all with en suite bathroom. Sleeping a maximum of 10 adults and 4 children. Both The Heron and The Mallard are duplex bedrooms, with downstairs a large double bed and upstairs 2 single (children) beds. The Stork has a large double bed and a nice sitting corner. There is double bed in The Kingfisher and 2 single beds in The Owl. The Heron, Mallard and Stork have impressive views over the mountains, waterfall and river. The Kingfisher and The Owl are located on the back of the house, but still have nice views on the trees, canal and river. All beds are of very good quality and 2 metres long. This in combination with the relaxing sound of the water is guarantee enough for a good night of sleep. Even in the hottest days of summer, the fresh running water of the river will make sure that the temperature in and around the watermill is pleasant...

Notes: In the canal of the watermill, the last 10 meters have a concrete floor. With a ladder for easy access this makes a wonderful private natural swimming pool. The water is clean and cold. Only 80 cm deep so perfect for a refreshing bath for young and old. The more experienced swimmers can also take a swim in the little lake of the mill. Afterwards the terrace and garden are a superb place to dry up.. With the canal on the left, river on the right and the lake in front, this will be your private island. And how about fishing your trout for lunch and prepare it on the BBQ?

Summer festivals: Most of the surrounding villages celebrate their yearly festivities in the summer months. You will enjoy the music and good food in these very authentic 'castillian' celebrations... There is an open air cinema travelling from village to village. Bring your chair and gather with the locals on the village square. Surely you've never seen 'The Last Samurai' projected on the white chalked wall of a churge.. Although you may not follow all the dialogues, just being there under the starlit sky will make it an unforgettable experience.

Skiing: The surrounding Guadarrama Mountains has peaks up to 2.450 meters high. In winter there are routes for cross country skiing like the 'cuerda larga' which will take you from the Morcuera to the Navacerrada mountain pass. On your left a wonderful view with in the distance the skyline of Madrid. On the right the overwhelming nature of the Lozoya valley... Some smaller nearby ski-resorts also offer the possibility of down hill skiing. The biggest 'Valdesqui' has some 30 km of ski-slopes...

Eating out: One of the many wonderful things of the inlands of Spain, is that you can still have a fantastic lunch or dinner for a very reasonable price. From Monday till Friday most restaurants offer a 3 course lunch, including drinks, for less than 10 Euros. In the many little villages around the watermill, you will find plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy one of the typical plates of the region. Piglet from Segovia, so tender you can cut it with the edge of your plate, or the roasted lamb from Pedraza, 'patatas a lo pobre' (poor man's potatoes) with some plain salad and red wine from the Ribera del Duero... hmmmm

Romantic place for people who love nature

We loved this mill very much. It is located in the middle of rough nature. The only neighbours you will met are cows! The bedrooms are decorated in a stylefull way and every bedroom has a bathroom.
It is a romantic place with a sky full of stars and no traffic sounds, just birds singing.
The historical places in the neighbourhood are wonderfull. Segovia, Pedraza and of course Madrid are wonderfull places to visit. Nearby the mill, you find a path for a long walk or you can use your mountainbike!

Not what I expected

The house was reasonably clean, but was too basic for the price. There are only two knobs for cooking and a portable elctrical oven. Kitchen utensils were scarce and the infrastructure in general was poor. The alleged "pool" is just the river with a cement floor: Brown water and full of insects. The water in the house is the same: Brown and smelly. One cannot even cook in it. And on top of all that, toilet paper cannot be flushed. Definitely not worth the money I payed.
