Though we lived out of state when we first met and fell in love, we always knew we'd somehow end up back 'home'. We so love this area and all the friends, family, neighbors, and yes - our guests, who make it so special.

Dan purchased this house in 2006

We were fortunate in that we were able to 'repurchase' this home back into the family. In addition to being rich in family history, Park Place on Pepin offers the beauty and peacefulness of an area unequaled... We pride ourselves on attention to detail and welcome you as our guests for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Park place on Pepin comfortably accommodates groups up to 10 and offers plenty of 'leg room' to spread out and relax - and everything is so close! With its gardened back yard and flagstone front patio it's the perfect spot for that relaxing get away, that overdue family reunion, or that much needed recharge of the batteries.

Renter beware

I’m sorry to say that we were put off immediately when we walked into the house. It had an old “feel”. Then there were the notes hanging by the microwave and on the frame of the living room telling us that “These paper towels are for microwave use ONLY” and “DO NOT EAT in the living room something to do with food allergy”. We felt like we were being scolded and we just got there! Ya, not a warm fuzzy feeling by any means. It dampened the spirit of our vacation for a couple days.
The description of the property, to us it was not accurate. There are NOT 4 bedrooms. A landing at the top of the stairs is not a bedroom. A bedroom consists of a room with a door. Two other couples that were with us had to walk thru our room….they did not feel comfortable about that at all. It should be listed as 3 bedrooms and a loft bedroom that way you’ll know that it is not a private sleeping area. For a girls weekend this would not be a big deal but, we had 4 couples and it was a big deal.
And there are NOT two full baths….a full bath consists of a sink, tub, toilet and shower. The only shower in the place was in the master bedroom. So if you wanted to shower you had to walk thru another person’s sleeping area or wait until they got up. It was very inconvenient for a group of 8. . Had we known this we would not have stayed here.
The place was clean with the exception of the bathroom that is right off the kitchen. It looked like it wasn’t cleaned in over a month. It probably wasn’t because no one would use it. The view out the living room window was beautiful. This house is within walking distance of restaurants, bars and antique shops.
I’m not sure I’d recommend this place….I know we wouldn’t rent it again. Part of a vacation experience is the lodging…this place just didn’t measure up. If you do rent just beware of what you are getting.
Owner's Response: We're deeply disappointed that these guests didn't previously indicate any issues to us so that we could have attempted to address them. They didn't mention anything when I checked in on them the evening of their arrival, or when I followed up on their stay via email. We've been in business since 2007, and this is our first negative review.

We try to offer our guests earlier check-ins or later check-outs as we want them to enjoy our home and all the area has to offer. While not meant to 'dampen' spirits, we’ve found simple common-courtesy ‘requests’ such as using paper towels in the microwave – something unfortunately lost on these folks, saves us from a big mess, and of course, we are sensitive to potentially dangerous food allergies, so ask that food not be brought into bedrooms.

I’m not sure what the expectations were of these guests, but our home is well detailed, with lots of photos and a full description of all that it offers. In addition to my detailed email, website photos and description, I also send a full color brochure with additional photos and detailed narrative of our home.

We are proud of our property and truly want your stay to be an enjoyable experience as it has for hundreds of our previous guests. If there is anything we need to be made aware of, please let us know directly so that we may address it in a timely manner.

Our time as a family on Lake Pepin at Park Place was just terrific. A walk from the marina, a few blocks from the bakery, a jaunt to the restaurant... Eagles fishing on the lake in the morning. Evening sunsets. Sailing available. Just a great place to get away. Great for children who can spend hours on the little beach nearby.

This spot was everything they said it was and more. Loved the house which was very well appointed and clean. And, the view of and the nearness to Lake Pepin was amazing. Lots of birds, orioles, ducks, eagles, hummingbirds that we saw right from the front patio. We named a pair of ducks that were quite social, Gertrude and Heathcliff.
Drove the loop around Lake Pepin. The Eagle Center at Wabasha was well worth going to. Very educational. Went to some shops but we just hung out a lot because it was so beautiful there.
I would absolutley recommend this property to friends and family and hope to return myself.

Our group of women meet every year in the spring. We are always looking for a nice place to enjoy beautiful scenery and relax and sleep well in comfy beds. Park Place had all of that and more. Lake Pepin is a wondrous spot and Park place looks right on it. The town was welcoming and charming with interesting shops and great food. We had a gourmet dinner out at Nosh and it was great. The house felt like you were staying in a friends home and was very warm and comfortable. My favorite memory was sitting in the living room with the fireplace with my girlfriends and all of the sudden we had two bald eagles circling in front of us over the lake and came down and landed in the trees right out front. We hope to be back.

FunTimes!

Hello Dan and Char,
On behalf of our group, I want to thank you for the hospitality of Park Place on Pepin. We had a wonderful ladies' getaway to celebrate our 7th member's 50th birthday. We enjoyed your house very much. An unanticipated surprise was being to participate in some of the events of the annual Lake City Winterfest! Park Place on Pepin was the BEST SEAT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD!!! We walked around town yesterday afternoon, enjoyed the "Smoosh Races", watched part of the construction of the Ice Bar, and some of us even watched the Polar Plunge. To top off the evening, we were able to enjoy a "front row seat" inside for the fireworks!!! Your home was very comfortable and accommodating for our group's activities.
Because we were staying in january, we had some difficulty regulating the thermostat. We didn't know there were some instructions in the manual on the diningroom buffet. Even with those directions, the downstairs/main level was very cold both nights. I was on the sleeper-sofa. I am not a "freezy-bug", but I was chilled. It might be a good idea to have another blanket available for the sleeper-sofa.
Nothing was a deterent from our group having an extremely enjoyable time!
Thank you again for the great venue for us to have a winter getaway!

Owner's Response: Thanks you for your wonderful review and feedback regarding Park Place on Pepin and the Lake City Winterfest and Smoosh Race activities! Unfortunately, your weekend was one of the colder ones. We have a booklet of instructions for your use, and as it notes, the thermostat can be affected by use of the fireplace. Thanks to for your suggestion as we will keep an extra blanket available for use on those extra chilly nights. Thanks again, Dan & Char
