Sanibel: Sanibel is situated in the Gulf of Mexico on the South West Coast of Florida. The Island is 20 miles by about 3 miles and is accessed via a causeway from the mainland just west of Fort Myers. Sanibel is far enough south to enjoy excellent weather all year round. It is renowned for it's beaches and specifically for shelling (It said to
be the 'shell capital of the world') Equally most of the Island is dedicated to wildlife on the unspoilt nature reserves. The extensive cycle paths are a great and safe way to see the Island and cycles are available from the local hire shops.
Sanibel's strict planning laws : Have maintained a tropical island paradise atmosphere. No buildings are over 3 floors; there are NO fast food chains and strict traffic laws - real people direct traffic and ensure no one comes to harm. Equally the 'community' atmosphere means there is almost zero crime on the Island. There is an abundance and broad range of independently owned restaurants, including a large number that are five star rated and a variety of more casual places to eat and be entertained.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Well, we are back in jolly old England now, better than usual given, finally, the arrival of Spring, but I wanted to write and say thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home again on Sanibel. Each year gets better and better for us as we learn & discover more of what the island has to offer. And I cannot thank you enough for the opportunity to do so from your fabulous house.
None of our UK based friends have the first idea where Sanibel is and we didn't hear a single British accent while out there. And there is something quite decadent leaving the cold grey skies of the UK and dipping into a summer climate for a fortnight or so. I wore trousers on the aeroplane and that was it - 31-32° throughout the stay and on our final day on the island we had a visual treat late in the afternoon watching a pair of dolphins racing through the shallows near the shore chasing their dinner. The kids, and us, were in awe!
Our boy Jackson, aged 6 1/2, discovered the Sanibel Sea School just next to the house and had a fantastic couple of mornings in there catching seahorses and dissecting a squid! Never a dull moment. And now Jen and I can enjoy these trips as the children, now older, require less immediate care, and can happily entertain themselves on the beach. It really was a holiday!
Many thanks again and, if the opportunity is available, we would love to rent 539 again next easter holidays. And, should you ever find yourself West London way and are hungry or thirsty, do come and see us in one of the pubs. See the link below for an idea of what I do here in London. You can follow the link to the other pubs from this one.
With best wishes and many thanks
