Features:

Apartment is located on the ground floor of a newly renovated 'storehouse' built in 1865. The unit with a private entrance has approximately 1200 square feet of living space with 12.5 foot ceilings. The apartment is tastefully decorated in an eclectic style of a combination of antique and modern furniture with just the right amount of New Orleans funk thrown in. Apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, large walk in shower with separate dressing area, and an equipped bar with wine cooler. Furnishings include a buffet, dining table with four chairs, dressing table, king size bed, armoire, desk, extremely comfortable leather sofa, love seat and oversize chair and ottoman.

This comfortable furniture along with central air conditioning and four ceiling fans make this space a veritable oasis for relaxing after jaunts around our beautiful but sometimes humid city. To preserve and showcase the seven restored doors and transoms surrounding the ground floor, the 1865 'storehouse' was designed as a large studio and is better suited as a two person occupancy. However, there is plenty of space available to provide sleeping accommodations for two more guests.

Area Description:

We are located only one block away from the Mississippi River at the corner of Chartres Street and Marigny Street in the historic Faubourg Marigny. Being so closely located to the French Market, the Street Car line allows you fun and easy access to the French Quarter and other attractions such as the Aquarium of the America's, Jackson Square, Café Du Monde, and numerous others. Walking, however, is not a problem as you are only three blocks away from the French Quarter and even closer to the hip Frenchmen Street mecca of bars, restaurants, and jazz clubs.

This is a hot spot where locals come for entertainment and the neighborhood is the point of origin for several Carnival marching parades. This location provides not only close access to the French Quarter but also this location in the Faubourg Marigny allows you a glimpse of the historic past beyond the French Quarter as you marvel at the surviving architecture that has become home to many writers, painters, musicians, and artists of all sorts. The area boasts of colourfully painted homes, trendy restaurants, coffee shops, and clubs with an amazing mixture of all types of people living in this vibrant urban setting.

We booked this because it's close to the French Quarter, and it is.. (about 3 blocks). It's also just a couple of blocks from Frenchman street, where you can listen to great music and get amazing food. The place itself is very nice (the photos don't do it justice, my husband is a photographer and we'll fix that for them next time around). A full kitchen, very nice bathroom, super-comfortable livingroom furniture, a very nice TV and stereo system and a great king sized bed.

This property is close to the street and once you make the one step up into the property, the rest of it is handicapped accessible. The front door opens wide, the shower is huge and barrier free and the rest of the place has hard-surface floors appropriate for all mobility challenged-folks.

All of that is what you'd probably expect for the price, but what we didn't expect was the amazing neighborhood. The Friendly Bar across the street (yes, that's it's name) is a place where you walk in a stranger and walk out a friend. Our first night we pulled our chairs outside to have a cigarette (don't smoke inside this property) and almost immediately we met half-a-dozen very nice people.

Folks will take the time to talk to you, get to know you, tell you what they think and you'll be instant friends. They'll also give you great recommendations on restaurants, activities etc... Be sure to go to the Orange Couch for coffee, Cake for a full breakfast, Adolpho's (over the Apple Barrel on Frenchman) for anything good to eat -- and ask around to find out all the other good stuff you shouldn't miss.

Our original plan was to eat a very nice dinner someplace new every night, after exploring the city. We found ourselves eating nice lunches and coming home in the evening so we could spend time with our new friends. If you're looking for an authentic New Orleans experience, I'd highly recommend this spot. I now understand why people visit and never leave, getting on the flight home was the only downside to the whole trip.

I'd highly recommend this property for my friends and family. In fact, they'd better be careful or we'll book it for our family reunion :). The downstairs unit is great for a couple or small family (it's one HUGE room), more than one couple would want to rent the upstairs, as it has two bedrooms and an amazing gallery, but if you do that, be sure to get downstairs and be social, or you'll miss the best part of the trip.

The house matched the photos and the description of the location was relatively accurate. The walking distance to the quarter, market, transit was all easy to get to and find. The lack of windows was something to get used to. The noise at night of people leaving the bars and the poorly lit street was a bit concerning and disruptive. This is not our first time in renting a house on a trip but would not return to this particular property.

Loved this adorable rental!

I had been looking for rentals and had only received one response to requests for information. When I contacted Sirah she responded quickly with an email even though she was traveling at the time. That helped make my decision. She was friendly and helpful. She told me at the time no one was asking for the rental the week we were looking at and to take my time deciding.

We visited New Orleans in October but the weather was still very warm for us since we are not accustomed to the humidity. When we arrived the rental was clean, cool and ready for us. The pictures reflect the rental absolutely perfect except they don't show that there is a full kitchen. We, of course, ate out the entire week of our stay, but a person could cook if desired. We used the refrigerator for keeping sodas cold and there was a bag of ice as well as an ice maker. The huge shower in the bathroom made me want to stay forever!

The property is an old storefront and is therefore right on the sidewalk and then street. I'm a light sleeper and found it to be a tiny bit noisy at times with people walking back after a night of fun. The convenient location and the amenities of the rental more than made up for it. We were a little concerned about the Marigny neighborhood after reading some things online, but we did not experience any problems and the people were overall very friendly. It is an adorable, comfortable rental, and I would recommend it to friends and family.

The location is super convenient to things. It is two blocks to Frenchmen's Street where there is great music, good food and a fun little arts and crafts market. Our favorite restaurant there was The Praline Connection. They have a "Soul Food" platter that can be shared and is awesome! The pralines are awesome too. Another block or two and you are at the French Market. If you like using the Hop On, Hop Off tours for sightseeing, there is a stop at the French Market across the street from the Old Mint. We walked to Jackson Square and Bourbon Street several different times and it was a little far for us but not terrible. We rented a car on this trip, but iI would not rent one for future trips since there is access to get around by other means that were less expensive.

We stayed a week and felt at home in the rental. The cooling system worked well, the rental was well stocked and clean and our overall experience in the Marigny rental was excellent!

I am a little late writing my review, we stayed here May 23rd thru May 27th, for a weekend trip to celebrate our Fifth Wedding Anniversary. The property does look exactly as it does in the photos, I fell in love with the HUGE shower & open space. The unit has everything you could possibly need and although, we did not cook while there, we would have had all we needed to do so.

The location was perfect, we quickly discovered shorter ways to get to where we were going, but it is truly within walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go and when we did not want to walk we jumped on the street car. Being so close to Frenchman Street was AWESOME, after having spent an afternoon on Bourbon Street, I was fine with not going back, (not sure if that is age related we are in our early 40's). We loved Royale Street, The French Market & Frenchman St.

The only downfall is the unit is on the ground floor and Saturday night there was a party taking place at the bar on the opposite corner, the music did not bother me as much as people walking by and hearing their conversations. At first it was slightly startling, it sounded like someone was right at your window, which they technically were. Once we realized it was just people on their way to the bar, it became easy to dismiss; you simply have to remember you are in New Orleans, but as a whole the Unit is on a quiet residential street, with lovely neighbors who always spoke.

If we go back again, we would definitely stay here again.

Great Neighborhood, Great Apartment!

I stayed at this property while I was in New Orleans for a conference. I chose to walk each day to the convention center and had a great time exploring the neighborhood along the way. It was nice to be out of the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter, but still in the action of the Marigny. The apartment is very open and comfortable. I loved every minute of staying there! Sirah and Frankie were friendly and helpful and made my stay very pleasant. I will definitely be back on my next trip to New Orleans. Thanks again for the opportunity to stay!
