Hazen's Notch Cross-Country Ski Area & Stowe:
Hazen's Notch Cross-Country Ski Area is located right here in Montgomery and offers miles of wooded trails. They have a variety of beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails, all with spectacular views. The cosy atmosphere of the ski lodge is warm and inviting. During the summer months, Hazen's Notch runs a day camp as well as an overnight camp for children from ages 6 to 14 years old. It is a nature based camp that teaches children about the environment, wildlife, and Native American culture.
If you plan on staying for a week, you may want to experience yet another mountain as Stowe in less than an hour away also. Mt. Mansfield offers challenging terrain as well as a gondola which can bring you to it's summit. Stowe village offers a quaint taste of Vermont with a mix of fine dining and casual restaurants. Excellent restaurants & Biker heaven:
Excellent restaurants: As Montgomery is a ski town, it is loaded with good restaurants catering to the hungry skier. The Belfry offers good steaks sea food, and burgers. Bernie's is a good breakfast and lunch spot. It also has a Mexican night and an Italian night. Both the Black Lantern Inn and the Inn on Trout River offer fine dining. The Trout River Traders offer sandwiches, soups, an old fashioned ice cream type soda fountain as well as a variety of local art and gifts.
Biker heaven: During the summer and fall, cyclists can he seen and heard whizzing through town with a parade of color. Many bike clubs come from both the US and Canada to experience the hills and rugged terrain that Montgomery has to offer.
Smuggs:
If you would like a taste of another mountain, Smuggler's notch offers a change of pace and is only 30 minutes away. It is a smaller mountain than Jay Peak, but also offers a children's program and breath-taking views. There are also some good restaurants in this direction as well. During the summer months, Smuggler's Notch offers a water park and a variety of family fun activities.
Ski:
Our great Vermont get-a-way is located in the center of ski country. Jay Peak is only minutes away and offers some of the best glade skiing in the northeast, as well as a variety of trails for beginners also. There are two lodges, one at the base of the main mountain and a smaller lodge at Stateside (expert only) for a slower, more relaxed pace. Jay offers a ski school for both children and adults as well as a racing clinic. There is a tram which takes skiers up to the summit for great powder skiing as well as breath-taking views. There is also a quad chair which moves fast and keeps lift lines at a minimum. If you are serious about skiing or boarding and a powder lover, Jay peak is the place to be!
After a great day of skiing, drop in at any of the local restaurants. Montgomery is a ski town and caters to hungry skiers by offering some of the best cuisine in northern Vermont.
Golf:
Jay Peak has just added a championship golf course to the resort. Its rolling green hills present a challenge to the golfer ion the midst of dramatic mountainous views. There is also a restaurant and the tram runs daily to the top of Jay Peak.
