Having stayed at over 20 VRBO properties over the last decade, I have reviewed numerous properties, and have rated some as low as 1 star. I think that there is a tendency towards "grade inflation" overall in the VRBO reviews. However, this property really is a "5".
As noted in the previous reviews, the owners were incredibly easy to work with and helpful. The goodie basket and food in the refrigerator were waiting for us on our arrival and were absolutely wonderful. In addition, knowing that we were traveling with our 4-year old daughter, there was age-appropriate toys and new coloring books/crayons also in the apartment on our arrival: absolutely above and beyond. There is also detailed instructions on both the apartment and on the surrounding area in a very useful binder in the entry way.
The property itself was extremely clean and well kept, recently renovated with all aspects like new, and amazingly spacious. The kitchen was well furnished, and there were plenty of supplies present for preparing simple meals, including a number of spices. The location could not have been better: an easy walk to the Metro, to dining and shopping, and to Mt. Royal. Every aspect worked out perfect for us. We very much enjoyed our "Canada House" (as our daughter called it), and would strongly recommend this property to anyone.
"We had a wonderful three days stay at Le Selkirk and were genuinely sorry it wasn’t for a longer stay. Montreal was so enjoyable and staying at Le Selkirk just made it even more pleasurable. The condo was spotless, roomy, tastefully decorated and centrally located. My compliments to the owners for their quality of design and overwhelming hospitality to their guests. The welcoming basket of food goodies put them over the top in my personal opinion…..a very good marketing and sales approach for renters and prospective renters reading the reviews…..a well-deserved “5-star” rating in a “ home away from home” residence."
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Selkirk and look forward to returning in the future. The apartment is in a great location and very close to the Metro and many markets and shops. It was an extremely convenient location and quiet at night for sleeping. The apartment is beautiful and spacious inside. We loved the rooftop terrace and the charcoal grill. The owners were extremely generous and left a delicious basket of food and drinks. They were also very helpful and responsive in answering questions and making suggestions. If you decide to rent Le Selkirk, you won't be disappointed.
Derek ,and his amazing Le Selkirk really made us feel at home. We went for my sisters bacholerette weekend away , and the girls and I had an amazing time , and stay at this condo. It is Spacious, Clean, Has everything you could possibly need, Cups plates cuttlery coffee maker, coffee etc. The beds were comfy, and we truly forgot that we were on vacation. Derek never hesitated to help us with directions or recommendations, he was always there if we needed something. Surprised us with some groceries. He was so accomadating, and generous. We would never get this type of service in Toronto! Loved it and will be back for sure. Thank you Derek and sam for our lovely stay , truly was a home away from home.
There are plenty of choices when it comes to rentals in Montreal, but I am very glad I selected Le Selkirk for my family for our week's vacation. The owners are very communicative and responded to my many emailed questions before we arrived. We were greeted by Anna Marie ("Sam") and her assistant Sarah and were shown the townhouse and how to use the security system. In the kitchen was a big basket of goodies, from cheeses to sparkling water to bagels.
The rooms were spacious and very bright, with good closet space, and there were plenty of towels in the bathrooms. The kitchen has enough amenities to make it easy to cook a full meal, and if we needed anything (such as mayonnaise), there is a small store directly across the street. The kitchen is somewhat small but still quite functional; it looks like it was renovated about 10 years ago. The king-sized bed in the master was very comfortable and my sons said their beds were comfortable as well. The master bath is small but well-appointed. We didn't use the deck, as the weather was rainy most of the week.
It is about a 4-5 minute walk to the Guy-Concordia Metro station. The museums along Sherbrooke are close by, and it is about a 7-minute walk to McGill University. You can even walk up to the top of Mount Royal from there (although there are about 350+ steps to get there!).
The one caveat is that if you have problems walking hills, your legs may tire easily walking either downhill or uphill to the townhouse.
There is parking for one guest car by the back door of the townhouse; the parking lot recommended to us for our second car was closed until September, for renovations.
The pictures of this home are very accurate, and you will feel like you're "home" within minutes of setting down your luggage. Honestly, you really will.
We had a wonderful stay at Le Selkirk. We were delighted to open the door to such a warm and inviting home after a long day of travel delays. We had a basket of goodies waiting for us on the kitchen counter and in the refrigerator. The listing description was very accurate and the wonderful clean and light-filled rooms brightened each day. We traveled with our teenaged daughter and we all enjoyed our stay with no complaints. Sam and Derek were both very accommodating and everything we needed was available. The assigned parking spot was a plus. We were walking distance to dining, shopping, groceries and the metro. We would truly love to come again.
