Romulus Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1BR/1Full BA Sleeps 6-Bedroom with 2 double beds. LR with 2 pull out couches

Guests tell me the photos don't do the cottage and property justice. Read our reviews. Very private. Clean. Lots of space. Drive down to the beach. We have a launching area on the property. The East side of Seneca Lake has lots of sun and beautiful sunsets. Dock and new deck. Close to wineries, college campuses, and Sampson State Park. Ten miles from Geneva for shopping, movies, and food. Two Five Star restaurants within 15 miles. We completed the renovation of this cottage six years ago and several of our visitors come back every year. One bedroom with two double beds and a large living room with two pull out couches can sleep 6. New kitchen appliances, cupboards, air conditioning, and microwave. We added a pellet stove for visits in the early spring or late fall for wine tours, an aluminum boat for fishing, a canoe and kayak for sunsets on the lake. For further information, call or e-mail me. It is a lovely place to relax.

Enjoy the quiet - pets welcome.: This is our sixth year renting our renovated cottage. Already visitors and their pets from the last five summers have made reservations for this coming summer. Everyone enjoyed swimming in the lake, laying on the dock, visiting the wineries (we have three within 7 miles) and local restaurants. Others have ventured to Ithaca, Rochester, and Canandaigua to visit museums, gourmet restaurants, and historic sites. The bedroom is above the lake so when you wake up in the morning, you feel like you are on a boat, overlooking the lake. The kitchen and dining area are on the bottom floor and look right out onto the water. There are many places to walk including a two mile hike up to Sampson State Park.

If you need to get away from the stress of your life, this is the place.

Enjoy the Lake: This is not for you IF you want a high stress vacation. See the herons land on the dock each evening and the ducklings come by each morning. The waves will rock you to sleep. Swim and kayak during the day. Take out the rowboat to fish. Have beach fires at night and visit our many wonderful wineries and restaurants nearby. This is truly the country and as our friend Simon always says, 'They aren't building any more lakes.'

Perfect private getaway

  • 5 of 5
The location and privacy of the cottage cannot be beat, not many rentals have so much lake front and privacy. Cindy has thought of everything you might need - from bath towels to paper towels to cutlery - the cottage has it. The wine trails are really great but my husband and I also enjoyed some of the local golf courses and hiking trails (Watkins Glen Gorge Trail is a must!). This is a perfect, relaxing getaway in a great, private location.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
What a beautiful place! It is located right on the lake with perfect views of the sunsets. We had a wonderful stay. The home is very well furnished and includes many amenities. Fishing was great! Nightly fires and the sunsets made our evenings. Patio and umbrella provided shade and comfort. We will definitely return!

Secluded Haven on the Water

  • 5 of 5
We don't like going away without our dog Shiloh as it is never as much fun without her, so we searched and found this wonderful Haven on the Water. The place is as close to the crystal clear Seneca Lake water as the photos appear! Shiloh loved it like a child with purple lips that won't get out of the pool! This was an awesome aspect of the place. On the first night we used the fire ring after dinner and watched a beautiful orange sunset as two Great Blue Herons flew back and forth as if they were welcoming us. As night fell we saw an Otter slowly swimming past and this was much to our surprise. The fact that Otters are present speaks to the quality of the water, from which we caught endless gigantic sunfish from the dock on the next morning. The water conditions were perfect and the weather was awesome. The first two nights, the water became like glass and tiny baitfish were jumping near the shore, creating little sparkles reflecting the starlight on the surface of the water. It was very serene.

The cottage was spotless inside and very comfortable. The combination of the location (very secluded), the quaintly appointed cottage and the fact that we had our girl Shiloh (a Boykin Spaniel) with us, made the weekend perfect - literally.

On our last night it rained just before nightfall but it wasn't so bad. The rain brought out a bit of mystique as we sat in the kitchen and had dinner looking out over the water (big picture window). It was then that we got a second look at our friend the otter. The rain didn't seem to bother the Herons, either, as they flew back and forth in front of the cottage. Yes it rained but the water and the place made it okay (the earth has to drink too).

It was difficult to leave the place during our stay but we were in wine country! We did several tastings and enjoyed the countryside, decorated with plush green pastures, rolling hills, vineyards, waterfalls and regular vistas of Seneca Lake. This region of New York is a relaxing and wonderful place to get away from the busyness of life.

Caution: after visiting once, you will want to return. Suggest putting your dates in early, as I have a feeling that this place will be in high demand as it becomes well known for the jewel on the water that it is.

  • 5 of 5
What a relaxing place to get away to enjoy the fall foliage and taste wine! Cindy was the perfect hostess. The cottage was extremely clean and very welcoming. . She made both my family and our dogs feel right at home. The location was beautiful. We cannot wait to come back for another trip. We strongly recommend!

Clean, cozy, calming

  • 5 of 5
This is a place we would definitely like to revisit in the future. The listing is very accurate. The property was clean and well-maintained. You a right in the middle of the Finger Lakes here, so it's an easy drive to Geneva and Ithaca is also close. The area is remarkably quiet, very little boat traffic. On a calm day, the water is so clear that you can see straight down to the bottom of the lake. The water temperature is right in the zone where you have to talk yourself into it, but then you don't want to get out of it once you do. In other words, it's refreshing but not numbing. I do recommend water shoes or Tevas for swimming because the water is so clear that a healthy amount of vegetation grows on the rocks, making them slippery. Also, the slope in the water from the shore is very gradual. You have to be past the end of the dock before you're in over your head. There's pretty good bird-watching, so bring your binoculars! Great Blue Heron are your next-door neighbors. We had frequent visits from different duck broods. We also saw Kingfishers and Hooded Mergansers. One morning after it had rained the night before, we spotted some loons. All you need to know about Cindy is that when I lamented the fact that I hadn't thought to bring binoculars with us, a pair of binoculars were hanging from our doorknob when we got back from dinner that night. Just in time, as it turned out, for me to see an Osprey nab a pretty sizable fish off the lake the next day. Our dog enjoyed sniffing along the wrack-line every morning and evening, and if you have a dog, like ours, who tends to pull too much to be trusted on most hikes, the Sampson State Park is within walking distance and provides good flat dog-walking (and biking, for that matter). Another good trail for the overly-enthusiastic dog is the Keuka Outlet trail, which starts on the other side of the lake in Dresden. Truly a great little getaway!

Perfect location for wine tasting.

  • 5 of 5
We very much enjoyed our stay on the lake. The house is very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Also very private; the only people we saw were those floating by in kayaks. We found it the perfect place for wine tasting--drive north or south and there are plenty of wineries within several miles. In addition to the wine we enjoyed local eggs, cheese, and fruit from various farm stands and local stores.

I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you are looking for a relaxing getaway. We had a great time both exploring the area and sitting on the deck reading. And Cindy is very responsive and accommodating.

Notes:
You can drive down on the beach to unload. Then drive around the side to park (off street). Very close and works well for older adults who have trouble walking distances. We have a two person aluminum canoe, an aluminum fishing boat and a one person kayak which works well on the lake. Paddle together in the canoe or take the kayak and hook an inner tube to the back and take your spouse for a ride. We do have full cell phone service and provide a CD player, radio, DVD player and TV along with lots of movies available for nightly showings. We do not have cable TV or internet service. We believe a low tech vacation helps our guests relax, forget about work, enjoy the lake, watch the campfire, talk, and/or read. Nightly sunsets is one of the best ways to relax and enjoy nature.
