Guests tell me the photos don't do the cottage and property justice. Read our reviews. Very private. Clean. Lots of space. Drive down to the beach. The East side of Seneca Lake has lots of sun and beautiful sunsets. New 100 foot dock. New windows and doors. Close to wineries, college campuses, and Sampson State Park. Ten miles from Geneva for shopping, movies, and food. Two Five Star restaurants within 15 miles. Each year we renovate another part of our little cottage and many of our guests and their pets return every year. One bedroom with two double beds and a large living room with one pull out couch can sleep 4. Cottage is 880 square feet so best for 2-4 people. New kitchen appliances, cupboards, air conditioning, and microwave. We added a pellet stove for visits in the early spring or late fall for wine tours, an aluminum boat for fishing, a canoe and kayak for sunsets on the lake. For further information, call or e-mail me. It is a lovely place to relax.
Enjoy the quiet - pets welcome. Guests and their pets return every year. One of the few places with no stairs to the lake. Everyone enjoys swimming in the lake, laying on the dock, visiting the wineries (we have three within 7 miles) and local restaurants. Others have ventured to Ithaca, Rochester, and Canandaigua to visit museums, gourmet restaurants, and historic sites. The bedroom is above the lake so when you wake up in the morning, you feel like you are on a boat, overlooking the lake. The kitchen and dining area are on the bottom floor and look right out onto the water. There are many places to walk including a two mile hike up to Sampson State Park.
If you need to get away from the stress of your life, this is the place.
Enjoy the Lake: This is NOT for you IF you want a high energy vacation. See the herons land on the dock each evening and the ducklings come by each morning. The waves will rock you to sleep. Swim and kayak during the day. Take out the rowboat to fish. Have beach fires at night and visit our many wonderful wineries and restaurants nearby. No cable TV (just movies). No internet but if you want, you can smart phone your way into the busy life of your workplace. We suggest you don't. Just relax and get away. This is truly the country and as our friend Simon always says, 'They aren't building any more lakes.'
My family purchased the property in the 1960s and over the years we added rooms and renovated what was a little boathouse into a full functioning cottage right on the lake. No one is allowed to build this close to the lake anymore but we were grandfathered since the building was here before that ruling. Each year I add something new. In 2015, it will be a 100 foot permanent dock, new doors and new windows. In 2015, I am retiring from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia where I have been a professor since 1984. Some people retire to the south. I retired back home to the north. I have two adult children who help me with the cottage (Until they graduate from college). I have been renovating and renting this cottage for 9 years. It has been great meeting nice people (and their pets) and having them return year after year.
Cindy Lont, owner purchased this cottage in 1960
The location and privacy of the cottage cannot be beat, not many rentals have so much lake front and privacy. Cindy has thought of everything you might need - from bath towels to paper towels to cutlery - the cottage has it. The wine trails are really great but my husband and I also enjoyed some of the local golf courses and hiking trails (Watkins Glen Gorge Trail is a must!). This is a perfect, relaxing getaway in a great, private location.
My husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and I are repeat visitors. We look forward all year to our fall weekend at Seneca Lake! The cottage is clean and comfortable for the four of us, and located in a great spot for easy access to the local wineries, restaurants, hiking trails, etc. The tranquil setting on the lake offers amazing views and glowing sunsets. The neighborhood is quiet, and there's a state park nearby for relaxing walks. Highly recommended!
The cottage was a perfect place to stay. The house was so clean and cozy, The location on the lake was lovely. We were so happy to be able to bring our dog and be right on the water so he could go swimming. We hiked every day and enjoyed going to the state parks. We would love to go back next year. I would highly recommend the rental.
What a beautiful place! It is located right on the lake with perfect views of the sunsets. We had a wonderful stay. The home is very well furnished and includes many amenities. Fishing was great! Nightly fires and the sunsets made our evenings. Patio and umbrella provided shade and comfort. We will definitely return!
We don't like going away without our dog Shiloh as it is never as much fun without her, so we searched and found this wonderful Haven on the Water. The place is as close to the crystal clear Seneca Lake water as the photos appear! Shiloh loved it like a child with purple lips that won't get out of the pool! This was an awesome aspect of the place. On the first night we used the fire ring after dinner and watched a beautiful orange sunset as two Great Blue Herons flew back and forth as if they were welcoming us. As night fell we saw an Otter slowly swimming past and this was much to our surprise. The fact that Otters are present speaks to the quality of the water, from which we caught endless gigantic sunfish from the dock on the next morning. The water conditions were perfect and the weather was awesome. The first two nights, the water became like glass and tiny baitfish were jumping near the shore, creating little sparkles reflecting the starlight on the surface of the water. It was very serene.
The cottage was spotless inside and very comfortable. The combination of the location (very secluded), the quaintly appointed cottage and the fact that we had our girl Shiloh (a Boykin Spaniel) with us, made the weekend perfect - literally.
On our last night it rained just before nightfall but it wasn't so bad. The rain brought out a bit of mystique as we sat in the kitchen and had dinner looking out over the water (big picture window). It was then that we got a second look at our friend the otter. The rain didn't seem to bother the Herons, either, as they flew back and forth in front of the cottage. Yes it rained but the water and the place made it okay (the earth has to drink too).
It was difficult to leave the place during our stay but we were in wine country! We did several tastings and enjoyed the countryside, decorated with plush green pastures, rolling hills, vineyards, waterfalls and regular vistas of Seneca Lake. This region of New York is a relaxing and wonderful place to get away from the busyness of life.
Caution: after visiting once, you will want to return. Suggest putting your dates in early, as I have a feeling that this place will be in high demand as it becomes well known for the jewel on the water that it is.
What a relaxing place to get away to enjoy the fall foliage and taste wine! Cindy was the perfect hostess. The cottage was extremely clean and very welcoming. . She made both my family and our dogs feel right at home. The location was beautiful. We cannot wait to come back for another trip. We strongly recommend!
