Ka Hale Lihi Kai (The House by the Water's Edge) is a perfect, private beachfront getaway for a couple or small family withthree bedrooms (upstairs spacious king master with another oceanfront lanai/bedroom if needed and downstairs room with two full sized beds) and two shower bathrooms. Relax with your morning coffee while watching the dramatic sun rise over crystal, turquoise water in front of the house; take a leisurely beach walk on the private beach, hike, kayak or snorkel in calm, clear waters. Located along a lovely stretch of Anahola beach on the Northeast corner of Kauai, this home is the perfect launching spot to see all the many destinations on Kauai- or the perfect place to curl up with a good book and go nowhere at all... full kitchen, charcoal BBQ, washer and dryer, TV/cable, VCR/DVD, DSL/fax modem if you need to catch up while on your holiday.
Beaches: This home is right on the ocean! So to speak. It is less than 30 from the ocean/beach. Open the back door to the master bedroom and listen to the waves as they gently lull you to sleep. It doesn't get any better than this.
This is by far one of the best properties on the Kauai beach.
I have never met Pat or her Husband, but in all fairness to me as an owner, I believe these accusations are unwarrented and malicious.
Modium needed replacement, was replaced with 12 hours of being aware of trouble. This is a beach home in a tropical island...of course there are insects..we professionally have it sprayed every 3 months. Housekeeper said the people were slobs and food was all over the home, wasn't put up and plates with half eaten food was everywhere! If I were an ant, I would love it here too.
Smoke alarms were there, they just didn't know where to look, we have 3 of them..this guy must work for the government.
Again a new cutting board was purchased as apparently they ruined the old one...never had that happen with any other guests before. They were extremely hard on my house and housekeeper. Just because they paid to be there, they had no right to put her through so much.
I'm really a pretty nice guy and fair, this is the first time I've have to deal with this type of an individual.
In all my years of dealing with the public, I have found most folks are very fair and honest with their dealings with me...didn't happen this time.
I'm chalking this up to experience.
Ka Hale Lihi Kai was everything we had hoped for. The location was perfect for visiting both the north and south of Kauai. The neighborhood is very quiet with well maintained properties. The home had everyting we needed to cook our fresh fish dinners. Having one bedroom upstairs and one down gave a sense of two seperate master suites. There really isn't a beach, but the upstairs deck was perfect for lounging and the view was spectacular! The house was very clean and well stocked with everyting we ever needed during our stay. We liked being away from the resort and condo world and didn't mind the short drives to the beaches and shops. We would not hesitate to recommend this home to friends and we would stay there again in a heartbeat!
house had everything we needed, loved seeing the whales everyday, perfect location. did not want to leave. Perfect for all ages, will definitely be back. Beautiful. Will miss looking out to the ocean everyday! The beaches were awesome, all very close, not crowded which was the best part.
My wife and I, our 2 children (7 and 5), and both of our mothers spent 12 fabulous days in this home. From our first enquiry we were treated with care. Mike called me rather than replying to my email, so that he would be certain that there was nothing left to interpretation. He provided guidance on when to book a rental car, where to shop, and what to do - a concierge, if you will.
There was very little left to want in this home, and it comes exactly as advertised. Close to more than one great snorkeling spot (including right out front), and a short drive to everything else that Kauai has to offer. Waking up to this view was something I will never forget. Whales breaching directly out front, a monk seal frolicking in the water at the beach just down the road, and the quiet - hearing nothing but the waves crashing against the reef - unforgettable.
I did a fair amount of research prior, and looked at many of the other Anahola rentals that we saw while there, and in my opinion this is the best value that you will find in this area of the island. If (when) we go back, we will have a tough time meeting or beating what we had this time. None of the other towns on Kauai appealed to us in the way that this quiet area of Anahola did.
The house was very clean, well maintained, and had everything you might need. We were cooking for vegetarian, gluten free, meat eaters, and kids, including a birthday cake, and we only had to pick up a few things to pull it off. If you are used to being pampered at a 5 star resort, this may not be your place. But if you are seeking respite from the busy world that is affordable and makes you feel like you are at home, this is where you belong.
We rarely ate out, but Verde in Kapaa is the place to go for Mexican. We shopped at Safeway and Papaya's to satisfy our wide diet requirements - and all were easily met.
If you want to go surfing, Hawaiian Surfing Adventures in Hanalei receives our recommendation - they got our kids up first or second try, including our 7 year old with autism. The instructors were knowledgeable and personable.
My only caution is that you will want to stay longer.
We had a wonderful time at this home! Our family of four was joined by our friends who also have two young children. We were surprised by how great the beach right down the street was for kids. Many hours were spent playing in the fresh water lagoon and ocean waves.
The beach right out front was wonderful as well but depending on the tide not usable at times. The pantry was not well stocked but we left a lot behind so maybe there will be more options now!
The location on the island was perfect. It allowed us access to both ends of the road with a 45 - 60 minute drive and really close to both Koloa and Princeville for quick trips.
We would definitely stay here again, the sooner the better!
My husband, his sister, her husband and I stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it! The convenient location is a plus...we frequented the North shore (I recommend checking out the view from the St. Regis Hotel in Princeville...worth the valet parking fee), enjoyed hiking the Napali Coast (challenging but worth the views), and ate "Chicken in a Barrel" twice. Definitely fit in a luau and Poipu Beach (the best place to snorkel, in my opinion). The Napali Coast Sunset Cruise is both relaxing and fun (be prepared to get wet...like going to Seaworld!). Maybe you'll be "privileged" to get a neighborhood tour from a local resident, Dave...very factual and entertaining. :) We would definitely recommend this property to both family and friends.
Overall. a clean home with plenty of room for the 4 of us. The bedroom upstairs was huge and had a private bath. The bedroom downstairs had 2 twin beds and a full bath. Very clean with detergents for dishwaher and laundry and a stocked kitchen with plates and all the trimmings. We figured out how to get the WiFi to work and spoke to the kind cleaning lady by phone if we had questions. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was because of bugs. The small ants/waterbugs and beetles were abundant in the kitchen and upstairs bedroom. The ants crawled into the dishwasher,on countertops and floors in kitchen, foyer and on us. The beetles were upstairs. My guess is that they came in through the screens. The owner told me that he sprays for bugs but this is what we came across.
The beautiful beachfront home is located in Anahola. It is the northeast side of the island between Kapaa and Princeville. Kapaa is located about a 10 minute drive south and Princeville is about 10 minutes north. Anahola is in a secluded, protected bay and the beautiful beach in front of the home is very private. It is truly paradise.
