Our family has enjoyed Carolina Beach for many years. Historic Wilmington is just 15 minutes away and offers great restaurants, shopping, a quaint historic district, riverboat rides, horse-drawn carriages, and the battleship. But you will never need to leave Pleasure Island; the boardwalk, movies, shopping, boating, fishing, and the boardwalk are just minutes away. And at the end of the island is the Fort Fisher Aquarium and the Fort Fisher ferry to Southport and Bald Head Island. Multiple festivals and street fairs attract tourists to the area: Seafood and Jazz, Carolina Beach Music and Azalea Festival to name a few. And at Christmas, you can enjoy the decorated flotillas and 'Island of Lights.' There is so much to do, or do nothing if you are so inclined: sit on the deck, or by the pool, read, sun or look for the dolphins.
