Not close to the beach

This is a beautiful home if you like to just hang out at the house during your vacation. We are beach goers and we expected the beach to be about a 5 minute drive away and it wasn't. My fault I should have asked prior to booking. It's more like a 20 minute drive and there is always traffic.
Also we were at the house during Christmas of 2010. Usually Aruba does not have a lot of rain. However we were infomed by the locals that the previous months were the worst rains Aruba has experienced in years. It also rained two whole days while we were there. The road up to the house was unbelieveable. There were ruts that almost swallowed up our car! I am not joking. My son-in-law was recovering from Shingles and dreaded the drive out of the neighborhood because it hurt him so much. We were not prepared for that. I am sure those are repaired by now.
The house and furnishings are great, however we use this website to rent homes all the time and for the price of this house a few updates like a new mattress for the master bedroom and new sheets would be a nice addition.
Also there are mosquitos in Aruba. I had to get bug spray to wear at night because the first night the bugs thought my body was a human buffet:)
The owner Denise is great to work with. I just didn't ask enough questions prior to getting there so a lot of what I am writing I didn't ask about.
All in all what are the holidays for? Being with family and Aruba was a great place to be together. I just wish we were closer to the beach and that was my fault. We did enjoy the pool though. I do not think you would be disappointed in this rental. It is nicer in person than the pictures with plenty of room.

Owner's Response: We are also beach goers and spend most of the day on the beach when visiting Aruba. The beach is generally a drive of 5 minutes or less away. I learned that the primary route that we normally take to the beaches was temporarily closed due to construction matters related to the new Ritz Carlton Hotel which is under development. Access to this route is now open. Aruba is 19 miles by 6 miles in area, in 20 minutes you can traverse a good portion of the island. Although we can apologize for being unaware of the construction, we see the 20 minute description as an unfair characterization regarding the location of our property. Family members have walked to the beach from our home and you can see the ocean from the upstairs balcony. Obviously, we are not in control of the weather nor its affect on the roadways. However, all repairs to the road have taken place, this happens regularly. The mattresses in all rooms are fairly new and we replace the sheets at regular intervals. This is the first time any guests has ever voiced displeasure of this nature during the entire time we have rented our property. We take great pride in providing luxurious accomodations that is generally touted as being head and shoulders above other area rentals.
