THREE BEDROOM LAKEFRONT COTTAGE ON SOUTH MANISTIQUE LAKE WITH BOAT

A PERFECT getaway from the hustle and bustle of Chicago! Catherine was very accommodating in getting us in late fall. We loved the location and hiking along the shoreline of Lake Superior! If you get a chance, you should definitely check the hiking trails out by Munising and stop at Chamberlin's Old Forest Inn for lunch on the lake side patio ! We stayed there a couple of years ago and we love the new upgrades to the cabin! Having a full bathtub this trip made bathing our 3 year old much easier and having a washer and dryer available allowed for light packing. We recommend this cozy getaway for all ages! We can't wait to visit again! We love the U.P.

We had VERY hot weather the week we were there. The air conditioner was not yet in but with a phone call and ten minute wait, the air was installed! We also had two large storms come through and knocked down a tree across the walkway to the lake and landing on the swing and neighbors fence. Once the care takers arrived, there was a logger on site within fifteen minutes and had the tree cut down and cleaned up within an hour. Suprisingly, the power did not go out during the storms.

The shower made bathing our two toddlers a little tricky. The washer was a bonus but the lack of dryer prevented us from doing more laundry. I would recommend LOTS of bug spray. I will assume the unusually hot weather accounted for the bugs. We had citronella candles and several cans of bug spray handy anytime we went out in the evening. The black flies and mosquitos made it miserable to be outside very long without the bug spray. Also be aware that most cell phones will not work in the area. We had three different cell services on four different phones and only one worked (only sometime). This is typical for the area but can prove to be inconvenient if you are not prepared.

Overall, it was a very peaceful cottage. During our entire stay, there was only one cottage occupied (two cottages away). The cottages are also situated far enough apart that if everyone was there, you do not feel crowded. The shallow water going out approximately 200 feet from the shore was nice knowing our kids could go out a ways without getting too deep. The lake is clean and was very warm on account of the shallow depths. The fishing was great once we figured out what to use. The shop owners were great to talk to and offered a wealth of knowledge about the area.

The price is reasonable. We did some comparison to other rentals in the area after we arrived and a comparable cabin would cost considerably more. The cabin rentals several doors down are the same price and half the size.

Lastly, the location is ideal if you want to go to some of the tourist attractions in the Upper Peninsula. Most of the major attractions are within an hour to an hour and a half from the cottage.

What a great place! My wife and I spent 9 days at the cottage in Sept 2009. I haven't relaxed this much in years! The cabin was well kept and nicely furnished. We had everything we needed (and more). The view of the lake from the livinf room is "AWESOME"!. Th trees were just beginning to turn colors...gorgeous! While we are not "fisher people" we tried our hand at it. What a beautiful lake! And the swimming area in front of the cabin is really nice. Firepit is such a plus!
I highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing vacation...and for those who crave a little more excitment than me there's a lot of things to do in the area (we drove to Munising and took the pictured rocks boat trip. Well worth the drive!).
The owner was a pleasure to work with and made sure there was a local contact in case there were any problems (there were not).
