Neatly tucked on one of the most beautiful and extensive beaches in Exuma, our quaint cottage is the perfect “get away from it all” retreat. Conveniently located roughly three miles east of Exuma International airport and some four miles from George Town, the house lies totally secluded and intimate. The cottage is approximately 1000 square feet with a full wrap around covered deck usable in any weather. We have totally renovated and provide everything we would want in the story book perfect beach cottage. We have chosen colors and furnishings which we feel give our cottage Bahamian style island charm. The theme of Casuarina House is peace, serenity, and privacy. We are not posh nor elegant but we do provide all the amenities needed for a beautiful unforgettable vacation . This has been attested to over and over as shown by the glowing happy comments in our guest book by over 60 satisfied visitors.
So put your feet up, grab a book, and sit on the deck to enjoy the sounds of the waves.
The wrap around veranda allows you to enjoy the fabulous scenery and turquoise waters regardless of weather. There is enjoyment for persons of all ages. The beach is exceptional for young children and for long walks. The white, sandy beach is approximately 3 miles long and for the most part deserted.
Our stay at the Causarina House was fantastic. My husband & our 2 kids (8 & 10) had a wonderful, relaxing time.Days were beautiful & sunny (although with15-20mph winds...maybe just the time of the year we were here?).The water is a gorgeous turquoise & the beach is a soft white sand.
We arrived on Saturday about 5:00 pm & ate dinner at the Fish Fry (collection of several local "shacks" that sell food). We ate at Shirley's & enjoyed the food (be warned that all service on the island is on "island time").We discovered when we asked the staff there that all grocery stores were closed for the day. We had nothing in the house - no coffee, breakfast food. When we woke up Sunday, we went to have breakfast at Splash. The food was good & the atmosphere was fun.
Exuma Market & Shop Rite mart are the 2 grocery stores in Georgetown & they are open Sunday morning but only for a short time (about 11:00 am). No alcohol is sold at the grocery stores & no liquor stores are open on Sunday. There is a bigger selection of groceries at Exuma market but the prices are a little higher than ShopRite. One of our favorite places to go to was Prime Island Meats & Deli. They had great steaks, lunch meat, ground beef, & their chicken quarters were reasonably priced. The liquor store we went to (CNK Liquors) was right down the road (a little past Prime Island).
We ate out just a few times. We ate at Splash again for lunch, tried another place at the Fish Fry (Charley's), & made the trek to Santana's for lunch another day.Santana's had good food and the location on the beach was pretty, but it was a very long drive. The rest of the time we cooked at the house or on the charcoal grill. The flies swarm a bit when grilling, so be warned :) Be warned that everything (groceries, beer, restaurant food & drinks) is more expensive here.Very few places take credit cards, so you should bring cash with you. On the island, the exchange relate is 1:1.We discovered Kalik, a Bahamian beer. It was perfect for a beach vacation :)
The house was perfect for our family. We slept with the sliding glass door open all week & listened to the ocean lull us to sleep. We never turned on the A/C - ocean breezes kept the house perfectly cool. It is an older house, though, but you can't beat the view & the near seclusion. It is the most beautiful beach we've been to. We did see others on the beach from time to time (maybe 10-12 total the whole week). This was a perfect vacation. We had an amazing time!
We had a wonderful stay at The Casuarina House! The discription and reviews are very accurate, and yes it is only steps from probably the most beautiful, secluded, near private beach on Great Exuma!!!! By day we mostly explored the island (be sure to check out the lookout tower over Hoopers Bay). We prepared a few light meals at the house, even used the grill pit twice for dinners. (Thanks Prime Island Meat And Deli) We slept peacefully every night with the cottage open, listening to the waves lap onto the beach, catching the island breeze, then awaking to the most beautiful blue water visible from our bedroom! Ashley was awesome while helping us book our trip, assuring to us that The Casuarina House would be perfect for our family. We feel blessed that the owner has shared this house with us. We would highly reccomend it to others!
We spent a week at this beautiful, secluded cottage--and it was just what we were looking for: our own private, beautiful white-sand beach tucked away from everyone else! Yes, the water really is that blue...
The location to all we needed was perfect--close but not too close. And the guest books were filled with lots of great suggestions, so make sure you read them first.
The kitchen was well equipped with whatever we needed for in-house dining, and we enjoyed the fresh coconuts daily! (Look for the machete in the cabinet).
Ashley (the owner) and Norm (the caretaker) were delightful to work with, answering all of our questions and assisting us promptly. We would definitely come back to Casuarina House--a lovely romantic getaway at a very affordable price!
My husband, sister and brother-in-law stayed here for a week in October! The pictures show exactly as the house is however.....no pics can show how breathtaking the water and beach is here at the Casurina house! It is very private and secluded, which we just loved!!! We saw MAYBE 4 people the entire week! The house is comfortable and has everything you need, like the previous review, it is not fancy and could use some updating but all and all it was great!!! I cannot say enough about the locals, so very friendly and helpful! The meat store down the street is amazing and the owners are so friendly! We had a little incident with the toilet flooding but I contacted Norman the maintenance manager and he was right on it!! He found a part and had it fixed with a few hours! A few must go to places are Santana's Bar and Grill, Shirley's Fish Fry and Tropic Breeze restaurants!!! Wonderful service and food!!!! This island is truly paradise and we already are planning to come back with the kids next August!!! Cannot wait!!!
My husband and I came to Exuma to celebrate my 40th birthday. We wanted a peaceful and private place to reconnect with each other and disconnect from the world. Casuarina House provided the perfect backdrop to do just that. We thought the house was well equipped, clean and maintained with great care. It is not luxurious but you simply can't beat the views and the seclusion of the home. We saw only four people on our beach the entire week. The house is well located as well - close enough to Georgetown to run out and grab supplies, and also centrally located on the island to be able to hit all sides easily. We explored the entire island while in Exuma and simply fell in love.
Casuarinas owner, Ashley, is wonderful, accessible and helpful. The caretaker, Norman, is a gem. He was very friendly and cares well for the house (he even arrange for a bottle of champagne upon our arrival to celebrate my big day).
Overall, we highly recommend Casuarina house!
My husband and I went to Exuma to celebrate my 40th birthday. We wanted some peace, tranquility and seclusion - somewhere to reconnect with each other and disconnect from the world. Exuma and Casuarina House were exactly what we were looking for. We spent a week exploring the island and thoroughly enjoying all that this Bahamian treasure has to offer.
The house is well equipped, yet not luxurious. For those looking for resort style amenities, I would suggest you stay at a hotel. What people should expect and will receive from Casuarina House is a well cared for, clean, convenient and perfect location in Exuma. The owner, Ashley, was extremely helpful and accessible anytime. The caretaker, Norman, is a gem - kind and friendly (he even arranged for a bottle of champagne for us upon arrival to celebrate my birthday).
Stay at Casuarina House....it's a true Exuma treat!
