Best location! Storks' Nest -- so called because long ago it was the town's maternity hospital -- is a large, charming home. It is attached to 'Arbor House (please see separate listing)), yet is separate, private and distinct. Together the houses comprise Derby Lane Cottages. Storks' Nest has its own entrance, porch and large private yard. The house is on a quiet, in-town residential street located between Frenchman Bay and Main Street. It is a short walk to the Shore Path, the Village Green with its free summer bus service for Acadia National Park and all of Bar Harbor's shops and restaurants. Use this as your base to explore the beauty of the area, as well as the variety of traditional New England villages such as Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Somesville. Take the ferry to Nova Scotia, kayak in the protected bays and estuaries, hike the mountains, bike the carriage trails, or go on a whale-watching adventure.

The Storks' Nest (so-called because the house was a maternity hospital a long, long time ago) has 4 bedrooms (master with queen bed and full bath, #2 with queen bed, #3 with full bed, and #4 with twin beds), an upstairs hall bath, parlor, great-room/kitchen/dining/living area with books, games, cable TV and VCR for your indoor pleasure. There is a deck for alfresco dining and yard for frisbee or sunbathing.

We loved staying here. We've been to Bar Harbor 9 times in our lives - started coming when our kids were small, and this time we had our grown children and their families with us. It was so great to show our grandchildren the beauty and adventure of Acadia. The Stork's Nest was the perfect house for us - tucked away in a peaceful, quiet spot, yet just around the corner from all the bustle and fun of Bar Harbor. Everyone's needs were met with this house, with plenty of room for all the families to spread out and then come together on the deck or in the kitchen for meals. Everyone appreciated the blend of modern amenities with the authentic, historical feel of the house. We hated to leave, and hope to come back soon.
