Brilliant 4 bedrooms, 3 bath, and 2 kitchens warehouse conversion on Rockland's waterfront with outstanding ocean views! Perfect vacation home for a large family or two families that enjoy traveling together. The home's first-floor living space has soaring 16 foot ceilings, lots of light, large rooms and an open floor plan. Enjoy cooking in the gourmet kitchen (granite counter tops and top of the line stainless steel appliances) all while looking out the windows at the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse or prepare a quick meal in the guest kitchen over looking the pool. The rest of the house ranges over three levels (over 3500 square feet), with exposed brick and hardwood and tile floors. Outside enjoy three viewing decks, a private in ground swimming pool, picnic area with horse shoe pit, barbecue and lobster cooker.
The description(s) of the property were spot on for this listing! You really just kind of show up. Everything is provided and you don't even need to spend time cleaning when you leave! The house was very clean and the owners are very friendly! We even bumped into them once or twice in town.
The location was beautiful. The view from the decks were fantastic. We got to watch several schooners past the breakwater/lighthouse and into the harbor. Every morning there were spectacular photos to be taken whether the weather was sunny (which it was most of the time) or foggy (which it was one or two mornings).
We were able to walk into town for the Lobster Festival or take drives up to Acadia or down the coast to Pemaquid/Bath/Wiscasset. There are a bunch of nice restaurants in the downtown Rockland area. You can walk down the waterfront to all of them.
Driving to the other attractions in the Midcoast area aren't that bad. You can be in Bath or Pemaquid in an hour or so, Camden in less than 15 minutes. Even Acadia wasn't that bad a drive-two hours or less, but worth every minute of the drive. The views are spectacular. Hit Fort Knox in Prospect while you are driving to Acadia.
The pool was used every day by our kids. Towels were provided at the house so you didn't even need to pack them! Plus, we pulled out the bikes that are provided and took a ride or two.
There is a nice little beach close by where you can go hunting for rocks or sea glass. The boys found a nice bed of hermit crabs and spent part of an afternoon seeing how many they could find. They found a lot!
The folks in town were very friendly and answered many questions. They didn't just treat you like a tourist or someone that was passing through.
We will be going back. Rockland is in a beautiful location. You can do tons of stuff with not too much driving. The house is great to come back to every night. Plenty of room to spread out. We played foosball every day and had some pretty vicious games!
To close, I don't think that there are too many locations where one can lie in their bed and look out the window to an active lighthouse! This is one of those spots. Well worth the rental!
We have rented many Home Away properties over the years and have always been pleased with our choices. This may have been the best one yet, which is saying a lot since it was November in Maine, not the best time of year to enjoy the Maine coast. Our grown children, their spouses and three grandchildren shared the property with us for the weekend that we were there as a belated 50th Anniversary celebration and it was absolutely wonderful. The property lends itself well to use by three generations - plenty of space for the kiddos to do their own thing and the adults to enjoy quiet time. Wonderful space for all to be together - we spent hours playing board games as well as sharing several very special meals together. The entire house (especially the kitchen) is very well equipped. Based on past experience, we packed lots of our own spices, but upon arrival found an entire drawer in the kitchen full of every spice we could ever want. I would highly recommend this property. The owners are delightful to deal with. All in all, just a perfect vacation!
Our adult children, our grandchildren, and we had such a great week in Rockland, and one of the things that made it special was this house that is right on the Rockland harbor. Beautiful views from anywhere in the house! We really liked having plenty of room so that everyone had space of his own, if needed. We certainly plan to rent again when we return to Maine.
This was our second stay at the property. This time it was with family in lieu of friends. If it was up to me, we'd book another week for next year already.
The house is just as nice as last time. The location is fantastic for a short walk into town or a 20 minute or so drive to Camden/Thomaston. Lobster prices were ridiculously low-$15 for a 1.5 pounder with fries/slaw at Miller's Lobster (don't forget the blueberry pie).
The pool was used frequently, but not as heavily as our last trip due to rain on two of the days. A pool table was added since our last time up so we had frequent time to use that in the evenings.
I can't recommend the property highly enough. Three full baths make it wonderful. No fighting for showers, etc when you return home. The kitchen is spacious with plenty of room for everyone at the table/counter.
The location is great for trips up the coast to Camden/Lincolnville/Acadia or down to Wiscasset/Pemaquid/Bath. Please go there. You won't regret your stay.
Perfect house and Rockland is fantastic! 4 adults and 4 teenagers fit perfectly in the house. Pool and decks were great and the roomy house allowed all to enjoy our stay.
VRBO A SPLENDID HOUSE FOR A FAMILY VACATION
We rented this house in July, 2012, with the idea that our children and grandchildren could visit as their varying, sometimes unpredictable, schedules allowed. The house, its convenient location and the town of Rockland lived up to our expectations in spades. There were a couple of things in the house that needed attention, and the response to our call was immediate and very effective. The pool is terrific, good size and very handy for our grandchildren.
The house itself is wonderfully adaptable for a number of sleeping arrangements. We had teenagers, elementary school agers, forty something's and grandparents. It seemed as if we had a different cast of characters daily, and there was plenty of room for all. The house was unusually well equipped for cooking and serving meals. Lots of better quality utensils, knives ,etc. There's even a good knife sharpener - a rarity in our experience with summer rentals.
When you read that this house is exceptionally well located, believe it. Rockland is a gem. Our grandsons, all four of whom live in a metro area where kids and bikes are not welcome, found true freedom in being able to hop on their bikes and ride to a nearby park to fly kites, downtown to a playground or the ice cream shop, etc. Several nice restaurants are within an easy walk as is the ice cream shop for an after dinner stroll. Traffic is tolerable, unlike some towns full of summer folks. Local drivers are considerate of bikes and pedestrians.
The wonderful Farnsworth Museum has mid-day talks and other attractions in addition to its exhibitions. The view of the harbor from the upper deck of the house is breathtaking. A bit of reality appears daily as the switch engine comes to switch cars at the cement loading facility across the street. This is not the least bit bothersome and shows a realistic side of life in a small town. Likewise our boys could watch the Coast Guardsmen work on their buoy tender at the far end of the harbor. All together our month in this house was terrific and memorable.
Rockland, Maine is a great place for visiting and exploring Midcoast Maine. Historic Main Street provides local shopping and dining opportunities and day trips in any direction provide ample rewards...a ten minute drive to Camden Harbor, twenty minute drive to the quaint fishing village of Port Clyde where you can catch the ferry to Monhegan Island and just an hour and a half drive from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine. The Farnsworth Art Museum is a close walk along with numerous galleries and live entertainment at the Strand Theater. Penobscot Bay is the place to sail when the weather is fair on one of our many windjammers, islands to discover, mountains to climb in the spring and fall, and winter activities as well. Here you can return to the more simple life you may have never lived. Rockland people have always welcomed visitors and treated them with friendliness and respect. You will find a quality of life that will make you want to stay forever!
Golf: Samoset Resort Golf Club is an 18 Hole PGA Oceanside course. Known as the 'Pebble Beach of the East' and is a 7 minute drive.
