Further details for this vacation cabin rental in Grass Valley, California

Dayspring highlights: Dayspring is a historical experience. Around 1868 gold miners damned the creek and diverted the water into what was called the China Ditch. Many Chinese laborers were used for this project. China walls were built to support the new waterway. Through the years, the ditch now empty of water filled with sediment through erosion. The ditch is now a pathway to walk along. The creek runs as it always did. Bring your gold pans and test the waters.

Other Activities: Gold mine tours

GETAWAY

John & Kat Placerville, CA
Review Submitted: October 14, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
What a wonderful trip we had...my husband and I spent our anniversary away from it all. We rented the cabin for the weekend, I recommend staying longer. The cabin was very clean and well-maintained. The owners were very kind and helpful. We were amazed that we didn't miss T.V. AT ALL. We actually played cards togethor for the first time. We did a lot of hiking, relaxing, talking and eating! You do have to walk a short way to the cabin from your vehicle, but it's worth it! I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to get away from it all!! We will return.....Kathryn & John

Heaven at Dayspring

Mamadoo Monterey , CA
Review Submitted: September 13, 2007 Date of Stay: August 2007
This is an absolute gem of a place to stay. Kathy and Chuck are great hosts and made sure your privacy and comfort are assured. Built along the famous China Ditch, the cabin is pristine and new and the view from the deck is unparalleled. On 36 acres of private property, we spent the most romantic and secluded weekend we've had in years! We did not hear one other sound of humans.... no planes, cars, voices....only birds, wind, water and the sounds of our delight at it all. The creek is just below and even at the low point of summer was 20 feet deep in some parts. We hiked, gold panned, picnicked on the rocks creek side and floated for hours in the swimming holes in the provided inflatable raft. We barbequed from the deck and spent each nigh cuddled together in the most comfortable king bed with 2 large picture windows looking out at the stars. The Milky Way was spectacular! Hot water was plentiful and we never missed not having a TV we were so busy soaking up the views! We didn't use the AC much but were glad to have the option. Near by Penn Valley offers groceries, a great bakery, thrift stores and historical activities The only drawbacks.....no microwave (understandably due to electrical issues in this remote local) and the ladder up to the bedroom is very steep. We wish we had been more prepared for the ride and walk into the cabin. The Franks are nice enough to provide a vehicle to get the half mile down the steep road but the steep walk the last 150 feet to the cabin was a little dicey at 11 pm at night. If it had been clearer on the Wed site, I would have packed differently. But honestly, the hike made it much more of a fun adventure and added to the privacy and specialness of the trip. We have traveled all over the world. Dayspring is definitely five star in our book for the remote local, delightful cabin, opportunity for strenuous exercise and relaxation and especially for its special spiritual essence! We will return.
