Sarasota prides itself on its cultural offerings. There is the opera (with a $20 million renovation), symphony, film society (and annual film fest in the Spring), aquarium, performing arts hall, classic-car museum, and dozens of art galleries. The impact of John Ringling can be seen at the Ringling Home, circus museum, and art museum. There is even a permanent circus in his honor. For sports lovers, there is the Sarasota Open tennis tournament in April and seasonal polo matches. There is world-class shopping on St. Armand's Circle. In addition to the cultural activities, there are many natural attractions at the botanical gardens, bird sanctuary, and state parks. Outside of Sarasota, are the many theme parks in Orlando (130 miles) and Tampa (55 miles).
