Come relax in our beautiful, peaceful, green house on 5 private acres with a creek. Located on a quiet, rural road just over 1.5 hours from NYC (GWB) in lovely Olivebridge/Ulster County at the base of the Catskills.

The house is sunny, quiet & lofty with nature views from every window. Furnished uncluttered, yet warm & inviting, with everything you need for a relaxing stay:

At the House: Fall asleep to the sound of the creek & wake up to chirping birds. Relax on the couch overlooking the birds in the trees or a family of deer passing through. Share a bath in the 2 person tub. Go for a run or bike ride on quiet, rolling country roads and wash up in the outdoor shower. Cook delicious meals in the fully equipped kitchen with excellent cookbooks. See if you can catch a crawdad in our creek.

The area has a mix of horse farms, pastures, deep pine forests, ponds and plenty of great local activites: swimming holes, running, cycling, antiquing, skiing, sledding, farmstands, world class music, farmers markets, kids day camps, horse riding, restaurants, orchards & festivals, hiking in state parks, endless summer yard sales, live music in Woodstock, and gorgeous fall leaves. Chris is an audio engineer who loves vinyl, analog music production and cycling (when time allows). Jana is a closeted graphic designer who works as a commercial photographer, and is keeping her analog cameras, just in case....

Jana & Chris purchased this house in 2005

After 9/11, we needed to find a quiet getaway from life in NYC. As long-term Ulster County weekenders, we decided to buy a beautiful property on one of our favorite cycling roads. We put up a large teepee and camped in it while plotting the house we would one day build. A few years later we built Olivehouse, overseeing the construction and doing much of the finish work ourselves.

Olivehouse is quiet, comfortable, bright, airy and quite green (although no solar panels... yet!) with the modern conveniences you really need. There's not a hint of dusty cabin or granny furniture in sight.

Even when you're inside, the large windows looking out over the property keep you connected to nature. The kitchen is built for making great dinners with friends. Sitting in front of the woodstove is the best place to be on a snowy night. You can run or bike right out the door and there's a great swimming hole down the road. We have a beautiful barred owl that hoots on summer nights and deer families that can be spotted during morning tea. For the skilled hunter, crawdads can be found in the creek.

MODERN & VERY RELAXING

Modern & Very Relaxing
  • 5 of 5
We had a great time staying at Olivehouse over Thanksgiving. The house is airy and modern -- there are lots of windows to look out into the woods, and the kitchen is really great, with lots of pots and pans and a really great stove/oven. The house is near a number of small towns, such as Woodstock and Stone Ridge, so you never feel too isolated -- but it's far enough away that you feel like you are in the middle of the woods. The owners were really easy/accomodating to work with, and when we had a slight problem with the pipes (which turned out not to be a problem at all), they offered to send someone over on Thanksgiving day. We'd definitely stay here again.

BEAUTIFUL HOME!

  • 5 of 5
The home is truly beautiful. It is very clean and fully stocked with kitchen supplies, linens, some games and movies, etc. It was a perfect weekend getaway from the city bustle. The fireplace/woodstove takes a little work to get started, but it is definitely worth the effort. The home has heated flooring which is a nice touch for winter. We did have an incident where the sink pipes started leaking, but a quick call and someone was over to fix it within 30 minutes. The home is the perfect size for two couples looking for a woodsy getaway.

A GLASS HOUSE IN THE WOODS

  • 5 of 5
Ok, it's not exactly a "glass house in the woods", but that is exactly what you will think as you enter this home and first see the incredible forest-facing floor to ceiling windows in the living room. It's like being in the middle of the woods with the ability to sit on a very comfortable couch.

My wife, infant daughter, Boston Terrier, and another couple spent a beautiful fall weekend at the house. The house was spotless and very well furnished with comfortable beds. I have rented many homes, and this is by far the best kitchen that I have had for cooking. I cooked three gourmet meals and even made an apple pie.

The owners were very helpful and responded quickly with all questions/concerns.

HEAVENLY HOME

  • 5 of 5
We stayed a full summer month with our 5 year old twins, and loved this house. Clean and modern--wonderful space. All amenities we needed. Windows surround and immerse you in the woods. Gentle stream on the property, great for wading on hot days. Lovely deck with bbq. Easy drive to Woodstock, Phoenecia, and other cute towns, and short drive to great supermarket. Remote enough to feel truly isolated, but close enough to everything you need. Hope to return!

PURE RELAXATION

  • 5 of 5
After a 6 nights stay in Manhatten we needed a place to relax. We decided to rent a house not too far away from NYC and JFK for a whole week. We prefer apartments or cottages during holiday. This is the best we ever had. Selected architecture, tasteful furniture, everything you need for a relaxing stay and a lot of space for our little family (2 adults, one son; not adequate for toddlers!). Everything was like described, it seems Air Conditioning and a flatscreen have been added since our stay. If we ever return to this area of the world, we'd like to stay in this cottage again. Strongly recommended!
