This is a beautiful, natural area of west/central Florida and we would recommend this safe & comfy home for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. It is close to excellent restaurants, shopping and within a short drive to the quaint communities of Duneden,Tarpon Springs and Clearwater. The home is really a gem! It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. Our friendly owner/host (Terri) was helpful in getting us settled in and oriented to the area.
Every morning we would watch George (our dog) run around the fenced-in lawn and peer at the fish along the sea wall. We typically enjoyed our coffee in the screened in porch in the morning and would look for the manatees swimming by. We had occassional visits from white egrets, buzzards and pelicans. We could also view dolphins, sea otters and other critters over at the Bayport pier/park area.
We like to fish and were able to purchase live bait at a nearby shop and fish from the Bayport pier, Pine Island,Rogers Park, Jenkins pier or in the Weeki Watchee river. We caught and released many fish (gray mangrow snappers, lady fish, sea bass, sea trout, reds, and sometimes mullets with bread for bait).
We did catch blue sea crabs which we kept and then "googled" information on how to cook and prepare them.....the crab turns from blue to orange in the boiling water and while there's not much "meat" in a crab...it's delicious. You should catch at least a dozen to make a full meal.....all the stuff you need to prepare them is right there in the kitchen which is thankfully fully stocked with pots/pans and utensils. You may wish to pick up a bottle of wine to go with the crabs.Learning how to cook crabs was alot of fun and a new experience for us.
The home is charming with cable ready TV's in three rooms, a newly remodeled bathroom with a handicapped accessable shower, a fully equiped kitchen and dining room/living room....did I mention there's a patio out back with a portable grill, kayak and a pontoon boat too. If you happen to see people with spears on boats with lights at night going up and down the river.....it's called "jigging". They sometimes go up the river spearing fish at night.....which is also "neat" to watch.
We had a great vacation and would like to return again in the future. All in all this is a great place to stay.
