Photos and Description of the Provincetown vacation cottage rental 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 4, Credit cards accepted.

A place like no other! Ribbons at Captain Jack's Wharf is a unique rustic townhouse in the most desirable waterfront complex on the East Coast. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths 2 floors. Parking for up to 3 cars. 3 TVs, DVD player, full kitchen, heated. There is an extra bed in a small room I call the 'Dutch bedroom' off the dining area with a built-in single bed, good for naps. Well-behaved dogs welcome. Cathedral ceiling with several skylights. A whimsical collection of painted furniture in the Peter Hunt style, and an old decorative iron stove from the 1920s more than compensate for the absence of a direct water view from inside the house, although the view of lighthouses and harbor from our private 200-foot pier is right outside the door. Wireless internet. Bay beach at door. Walk to town and shops. Recently featured on Historic homes house tour. Located in West End at Commercial Street next to the town landing beach at foot of West Vine street. Lives like a private house.

Wow! A real Provincetown trip.

Great to find a throwback to a Provincetown remembered.
Lots of space, two bathrooms, lots of original art and unique furnishings. Much more privacy than other places.
Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed Ribbons. I lived in it myself for 13 years, never intending to rent it out. It has quite a history. It was once a 'gay bar' known as the 'Circus Bar' in the early thirties, after prohibition was repealed; before that it was a speakeasy for a while. Some time later it was a studio for Julien Beck's Living Theater. It was originally there before the pier was added in the late nineteenth century and was supposedly Foster's ice storage building. Then part of the flooring was removed to store nets and trap poles when trap fishing was popular. Some very famous and infamous folks are reported as staying there in the 40s. I really appreciate your review.

think twice

Review Submitted: September 8, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
While Ribbons is an an interesting unit architecturally, and well-situated, the owner's obvious lack of care regarding its maintenance is a shame, and ultimately spoiled our recent stay there. The kitchen sink leaked so that the kithcen floor was constantly wet and muddy. The management's solution was simply to stack newspapers under the leaky pipes which quickly became sodden and smelly. The pots and pans were few and hardly serviceable; the kitchen was generally under-equipped; and the beds were the MOST uncomfortable beds we had ever slept in. We did not, and do not ever, expect all modern conveniences and comforts. We appreciate the rustic "Old Provincetown" experience as much as anyone, and we certainly do appreciate the pet-friendly policy. But this lack of attention to such easily remediable issues reveals an obvious lack of concern for the satisfaction of ones guests. Renter Beware.
Owner's Response: We are sorry about the sink leak; it wasn't leaking before when we stayed there in May and June. We have a good plumber always on call, and depend on the 'manager' to call him. There was a full 12-piece set of Farberware pots and pans plus assorted teapots, omelet pans, lasagne pans, etc., but sometimes things 'travel' due in part to the tradition of shared meals out on the pier. The beds are standard double inner springs on box springs, neither are queen or king, due to space considerations; they are not brand new, but also not old. We'll remedy these short-comings of course.

Captain Jack's with space!

Jonathan N. Yorktown, NY
Review Submitted: August 15, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Ribbons offers a unique combination: all the charm of Captain Jack's Wharf, plus a relatively large amount of space.

Captain Jack's is perhaps the ultimate way to experience the quirky character of P-Town. Like some Victorian architect's idea of a pleasure folly, all a jumble of decks and cabins, it sits over the water, an oasis of serenity and chaos amid P-Town's larger oasis. Not for everyone, (don't come near here if your taste extends to Marriott Courtyard!) those who will appreciate it most won't mind limited privacy, basic amenities and sea breeze instead of air-conditioning. In return you get a completely unique setting and a special community and the companionship of fellow travelers who presumably are there for the same reasons as you and many of whom have been coming for years.

Ribbons is the unit closest to Commercial Street and although it is neither over the water nor with sea views, it is nonetheless very much part of the Wharf, with its guests enjoying all that Captain Jack's has to offer. Like most units on the Wharf, it has its challenges (the dawn chorus of bottles and cans being collected by the recycling truck, the six inches between the front door and passing cars on Commerce Street and the lack of a sea breeze come to mind), but there is a huge offset: the amount of space and the greater privacy than almost all other units. There is no sense of being scrunched up in something akin to a mix between a hamster cage and goldfish bowl that other units can feel like. Added to that, the decor is quite charming and makes you feel like you are definitely somewhere else, yet "at-home comfortable" at the same time. To be strongly recommended for people who look for "different", quirky character and who are not put off by missing the odd creature comfort they may expect on an everyday basis at home.
Owner's Response: I am so happy you enjoyed the same things that I have enjoyed in Ribbons these last 24 years I have owned it; It is always true that its appeal is to creative and romantic folks, writers, and some performers. Many Europeans have stayed there, some even adding their touches to the decor.

really charming and truly authentic

Review Submitted: July 22, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Ribbons at Captain Jacks was everything I hoped I would experience and then some. I really enjoyed the property's overall charm. Its rustic detailing, and kooky eclectic vibe merged perfectly with the atmosphere of P-Town. I couldn't have asked for a better location for my trip. Its a short walk from the center of town, and just out of the way enough to be quiet when I needed to be quiet. Management was helpful and friendly. I want to stay there again.
Owner's Response: Thankyou. I am so glad to have folks who still appreciatehat some refer to as "Old Provincetown".

Great getaway

Review Submitted: July 11, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
I stayed here in May and again in June. Love the eccentric space and the ability to mingle with other folks and maintain my privacy at the same time. Being able to have private dinners and parties was very important to me and my friends.Walking on the beach, and sitting out on the pier early in the morning started my every day.
Owner's Response: Thank you. We loved it too. Lived in Ribbons for awhile in the 80s. Was once the studio for Julian Beck's "Living Thheater' also.
