About L J Craig

Escaping the hustle and bustle of busy city life, relaxing, lowering stress levels and recharging is the kind 'stuff' that draws people to this area. You don't just happen upon a special place like this, you seek it out and when you finally find it, you just know it, and it's hard to leave. For many people, this becomes an annual family/group event that everyone looks forward to. Clean air and rivers to play in set the stage for some of the greatest and most precious childhood/family memories. You can see this evidenced in the eyes of people you find along our road having just come from a good hike, on the faces of kids all ages proudly displaying a stringer full of fish, and in the smiles of families who just stopped off to teach their children how to hunt 'craw-dads' and salamanders or skip rocks in the river.

L J Craig purchased this cabin in 2006

Why L J Craig chose Clayton

Tate City and the Upper Tallulah River are beyond compare! This is the place locals bring their guests when they come to visit! The cool, clear river, Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron lining its edges, gravel road, USFS Campgrounds, abundant hiking trails, waterfalls and wildlife make this cabin such an exciting destination.

What makes this cabin unique

Seculsion and Privacy. No paved roads or sounds of busy traffic off in the distance---peace. No light pollution so the stars shine vibrantly. No cell phone service or interruptions while you are relaxing and getting reaquainted with friends and family---however, there is high speed wireless internet. Four plus bedrooms that allow everyone to have your own space. Don't forget the HOT TUB! We will be glad to point you in the right direction to find activities that suit your group's interests, needs and level of ability.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the wonderful week in the cabin it was beautiful. We loved everything from the senic drive up to comfortable, welcoming cabin at the end of the road. We had a great time hiking the various trails, falls, swimming hole, Deep Gap and the Tallulah Gorge. We enjoyed the outdoor fire place, the hot tub, the porch...we sat around the kerosene lamp telling ghost stories. It was a great time to have family meals and being unplugged from our cell phones. Thank God for the internet though! We had a great Spring Break.

The perfect rustic getaway

One of the best "backwoods" cabins we've ever come across. Remote location, fantastic amenities. We will be back!

Mountain Christmas!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay was great! The cabin was perfect, plenty of room for all. The entire family enjoyed the walk to Denton Creek and the waterfall, and then enjoyed a soak in the hot tub afterwards! Everyone, including our 4 and 7 year-old granddaughters, loved the property and the location. Everything about the cabin was as advertised. Afterwards we had a nice lunch and shopping in Clayton!

outstanding vacation

  • 4 of 5

cabin was very well equipped, in great shape, lots of nearby hiking, the river is fantastic. the remoteness is an advantage and disadvantage. if you like to go into town a lot, the 30 minute drive on a gravel road gets old. otherwise, an awesome vacation!

Escaping technology

  • 5 of 5

We looked for a secluded house and found it. We thoroughly enough the seclusion and the fireplace on the porch. We ventured back down the mountain a ways on Saturday, to a trout pond that my boys had an amazing time catching fish. Well worth the trip back down. The only problem we encountered was the DirecTv did not work. We were informed about this prior to arriving and it only made my boys have more of a reason to enjoy the outdoors. Would not hurt my feels to never see it repaired. You go to this house for the seclusion, which we enjoyed. Thanks Again

Owner's Response: The seclusion and location are just two of the reasons our Cabin is special. We are so glad you enjoyed the great outdoors that surrounds you. The Directv is fixed for future renters. As we say, going to our Cabin is a getaway and that can mean from the TV if you want. Thanks for your comments and we look forward to having you back.

Great esape cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Spent three nights at this cabin last weekend. The cabin was very well supplied for everything we needed. It is a long ride up a dirt road to get to the cabin, but seclusion is what we were looking for. The owner was in contact with us prior to the cabin with some good, helpful information. The wifi worked but was very slow, maybe because there were five of us all trying to get on-line at the same time :)? The satellite TV worked, but you do not get local channels, so we missed watching a couple of football games that we wanted to see :( All in all, it was a perfect weekend getaway; the hot tub was nice as was the outdoor fireplace. I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a nice place to stay that is very secluded.

Owner's Response: Visitors are amazed at how "away from it all" and secluded the cabin is in the Nantahala Forest. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and will return in the future. As with any remote location, technology sometimes can be challenging. We work hard to keep our amenities working properly and responding to your needs. Thanks for letting us know and these issues will be addressed immediately.
