Enjoyed our stay!

Erin A. Ettrick, WI
Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed here August 18-23, 2009 and had a nice experience. The website gives an accurate description of the property...except that the home only has one small window air conditioner. For those concerned with the housekeeper who lives in the basement, we never even saw or heard her. If she was there, we didn't know it. The couple times we called her with questions though, she was available. The weather was warmer than usual (we heard from the locals), so it got rather warm for sleeping a couple of nights with only having the one small window air conditioner. We had a group of 10 adults, and the house was spacious enough to give everyone plenty of space. A few recommendations for the owners: having mirrors in the bedrooms would be handy as the only mirrors were in the bathrooms, a couple more fans or more air conditioning in case of warm weather, also providing a few more bath towels would be handy as a couple people had to share towels. It would have been nice if the sofa in the living area had a pull-out bed or futon...one of our guys slept on the couch. I see you might be in the process of adding another bathroom? If this is the case, that will be great. The two bathrooms were sufficient for our short stay, but having one more would be handy for large groups like our's. Maybe provide a local map with how to get to certain places (closest grocery store, beach, etc). We tried to get the beach one day, but had to stop at a gas station to find out where to go. Other than that, we had a great stay and the neighborhood where the house is located was very quaint and quiet. We loved the freshly painted walls and the colors chosen. Many in our group enjoyed relaxing on the nice deck with their morning coffee! We would definately consider staying here again.

Great weekend!

Helen G. and family Boston, MA
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We had a very nice stay at the Alburgh Villa. When booking the house, I was a little nervous about any spaces/furniture that was not pictured, having had past bad experiences with online rentals. We were most pleasantly surprised. The house is great and nicely furnished. The 2 young children in our group loved the large, spacious rooms (we all did). The bed/bedroom/bathroom situations worked perfectly for us. And the large jacuzzi tub provided hours of entertainment for the little ones, as did the selection of board games and the large deck. We found a great coffee shop in Rouses Point. Overall, we had a very memorable visit - wish it had been longer than just a weekend.
Owner's Response: Thank you Helen! We enjoyed your stay with us and the housekeeper was particularly impressed with how you arranged the furniture (she loved it!). We hope you to see you soon.

Wonderful Ski Vacation

Arizonagetaway Arizona
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
My family and I had a wonderful time here! There was a big living/TV room where we gathered every night and had a blast. Everyone had a bedroom and we never felt crowded and after a long day of skiing, the master bathroom was a spa heaven. We also had a two-car garage, which is nice during the winter months. There was so much to do and yet enough time to relax and have fun. We even bbq on the deck, which was a wonderful treat during the winter time. The description does not do it justice. Also, the housekeeper was very helpful and gracious during our stay. It is much more than just a house now, it holds wonderful memories for us and we are excited to rent it next winter. Thank you Elena for a wonderful time!

Pleasant winter getaway

Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2007
We had the pleasure of staying at the Alburgh house during the Winter season in 2007. All four couples particularly enjoyed the house so when the time came to book for our 2008 winter getaway we did not have to look far. We have stayed twice to date and are looking forward to the next time we can get out there.

disappointing

Mingna Pittsburgh
Review Submitted: August 1, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I would not recommend this property to others for the following reasons: upon arrival the lawn was a mess and the outside of the house was dirty. an unexpected "live-in housekeeper" had total access to the house - we were not told about this person living in the basement. We never would have rented this home if we had known a total stranger would be staying with us and would have total access to our belongings and the ability to wander around the property. (this made our 9 year-old granddaughter feel very unsafe and caused anxiety). no dressers in two of the bedrooms. No towel racks or hooks in the upstairs bathroom - which was amazing, but the fact the towels and clothes needed to be put on the floor was a huge inconvenience. The access to the lake was a tiny boat launch - not what we had expected. The landlord was not easy to work with and rude. Our vacation was greatly affected by the disappointment of this house. Lake Champlain was great - but this house was not.
Owner's Response: We understand that all guests have a different experience and we always hope that they enjoy their stay with us. Unfortunately, this guest did not have the best experience and we did try to remedy this while they were here.

We always do our best to keep the place clean and we ask that our renters also leave the property as they found it, but sometimes, when guests are on vacation, they take a break from all the cleaning. This is understandable, but makes it a bit harder for the next guests. We also make sure to mention that we do not have lakefront access, we even refer people to other cabins, which are on the lake. Lake Champlain is about a 2-5 minute walk from the house, and it is seen from the master bedroom upstairs.

We encourage suggestions and will do our best to implement or change them. We hope that this guests will have a better experience with the next rental.
