We were an extended family of 8, 4 adults and 4 teenagers that stayed in Barbara and Ed's house for four nights at the end of October. From their welcoming hugs to parting gifts, we had the most amazing time! The description of the house does not do it justice, the amenities are fantastic, more in keeping with a 5* Hotel than a normal home but more importantly for me, the house was spotless and well maintained with an abundance of what seemed to be new bed linen and towels. There was plenty of room for all of us, the only downside, the rush for the one bathroom in the mornings which delayed our departure to sightsee somewhat! Barbara was always on hand if needed and emailed us well in advance of our arrival with details. As recommended we ate wonderful, filling, inexpensive breakfasts every morning in High Tide and were always welcomed there very warmly, especially by Cheryl our personal waitress. We ate once in D'Parma, an amazing local Italian and got a take-out from there another night. The house is in a lovely residential area less than a 10 minute drive from the T, which we used to travel into the city most days. It was reliable, fast and convenient. We had made out an itinerary before arriving in Boston but unfortunately didn't manage everything on it, so we'll just have to return!!!:-D
We did the Duck Tour, visited the Science Museum and the Aquarium,( thanks to Barbara and Ed for passes) ate in Fanueil Hall, visited Salem, shopped on Newbury St, Walmart and Wrentham Village Outlets. We would heartily recommend staying in Barbara and Ed's rental and envy those who will do so this year. We certainly hope to be able to return ourselves some day!
We are a family of 6, (children 1, 4, 6, and 8), plus my mother in law was with us, and we spent a wonderful week in Barbara and Ed's home. Considering how many of us there were, we really had enough space, The home was clean, well set up, the beds were very comfortable, plenty of towels, and basically everything you might need was there- without it being cluttered! From the start, we had no problem getting, and staying, in contact with Barbara. She wrote back right away and answered any questions I might have.
Another great thing was how close it is to Boston. We could go into Boston to the museums, and still be home in time for the baby's nap, without spending hours in the car. Free passes to the Aquarium and to the Museum of Science were given to us from Barbara, which saved us lots of money. The only bad thing about the trip was that the weather never was warm enough to use the pool and my kids won't let me forget about it! Just another reason to come back again some day!
Thanks for the wonderful hospitality Barbara and Ed!
Four siblings (all over 50) and one Dad (92), stayed at this property in early September. From the moment we arrived we felt at home and Barbara and Ed couldn't have been kinder, more gracious or more helpful than they were. On our arrival, Barbara settled us in as though we were the first guests ever to stay there despite the fact that she has done it more often than she probably even remembers. Such a gentle, loving and helpful lady.
We were in Boston for a family reunion and found the location to be perfect for access to downtown Boston or indeed any part of the greater Boston area. It was so lovely being in a real residential neighborhood by the sea and away from the hustle and bustle of the city which was just minutes away. We loved the locality and and the local restaurant (High Tide) where we had breakfast each morning. We got to enjoy the pool and enjoyed meeting Barbara and Ed's family who always made us feel right at home.
The accommodation is very well laid out and was absolutely spotless. It contained everything you could possibly need. I would recommend it to anyone and would definitely stay there again if I return to Boston. Thank you Barbara for the access to the aquarium which saved us $120 at least. Unfortunately, we could only stay for four nights so didn't get to take advantage of the other discounts/offers recommended and facilitated by Barbara.
I know these reviews are important to people who are trying to make a decision about a place to stay but this is a "no brainer". If you are looking for a place in Boston that's good value, is quiet and homely but also near downtown, the airport, the beach and all that Boston has to offer, then this is it! Just book it!
I stayed in this house for two nights in August, for our annual Girls Only Weekend. We were 5 women sharing the rental. Owners Barbara and Ed are super nice. When we arrived, she gave us the safety orientation, showing us the way things in the house work and letting us know what is available in the area. It is very easy to get to Boston from this location as there is a bus stop right up the street and a train station nearby. Barbara gave us a shopping card, and passes for the Science Museum and the Aquarium. When we went to the aquarium, Barbara offered us a ride to and from the train station, and then gave us a tour of the island! She was able to answer any questions we had about the area.
The house is also beautiful! It is warmly and tastefully decorated, very comfortable, and contains absolutely everything you could possibly need. The beds are super comfy and there were plenty of clean towels. I could go on and on but succinctly put, this is the best vacation rental I have ever spent time at!
We stayed in this property for nearly a week as the first part of our summer holiday from the UK. We selected it due to its proximity to Boston and because it offered our family of 5 the space to relax.
The apartment proved to be an excellent choice and did not disappoint. It was very comfortable, spacious, well decorated and had a lovely pool. It had all the facilities you could ask for and loads more!
We had the perfect hosts. They very kindly picked us up from Logan and took the time to orientate us to Winthrop and to help us to make the most of our short stay in Boston. We managed to get tickets for the Red Sox v Yankees at Fenway Park. We toured the Samuel Adams Brewery, loved the ICA and enjoyed exploring, sightseeing and shopping in central Boston. We also used our host's complementary pass for the New England Aquarium, which was excellent. Our amazing late afternoon Whale Watch trip with a moonlit return to the lights of Boston harbour was the highlight of our 3 weeks holiday.
Getting about was very easy. We bought a $19 week pass for the “T” (train and local buses) to travel into and around Boston. The supermarket, bakery and some excellent restaurants were just a short walk.
We loved all that Boston and Winthrop had to offer and wouldn’t hesitate to return to this property – our home from home in the USA!!
This is the perfect place to stay during your family vacation! Barbara & Ed designed this house with love and you’ll get this feeling immediately. Decor is carefully adjusted. You will find the same ornament on dishes, teacups and on curtains. Everything you need in everyday life is already in the house. Bay-chair, beach chairs, beach towels, board games. Would like to make a cake? You’ll find everything you need. And house is very clean.
Don’t miss your chance to use the pool. Water is heated, light is available, so you can swim even during night-time. But if you don’t plan to use the pool today please don’t forget to inform Barbara & Ed to switch off heating (please try to save their money as they save money for you). Hosts are very kind and allowed us to use their membership for New England Aquarium and Museum Of Science. We didn't pay, we didn't wait, and we even got discount in a gift-shop. It saved us a lot of money.
Barbara and Ed are very warm, attentive, considerate and tactful people. They live next door, appeared every time we need their help, and allowed us full freedom. Their advises and recommendations made our vacation easy and joyful.
House location is great! Withrop is clean and cozy town. Wonderful view both to Ocean, Bay or Deer-Island! Please visit the cafe in Withrop for the breakfast at least once, you’ll find amiable and benevolent people. You’ll feel as at home. You can enjoy calm and comfortable stay in Withrop, but at the same time it takes only 10-15 minutes to get center of Boston by car. Even w/o car it is very simple.
You’ll love this house! We highly recommend you to stay in Barbara & Ed’s house! I hope I can visit Boston & Withrop and meet Barbara & Ed again. If every –body would run the business as Barbara and Ed then our world will become better!
