near perfect experience!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location (and price) of the cottage. We stayed for a week in the studio. The cottage is small, but functional. We were able to make breakfast and lunch at the cottage and eat dinner in Coral or Cruz Bay. The cottage had more livable space on the outside patio except, unfortunately for us, the mosquitoes hatched a few days prior to our arrival so being outside on the patio wasn't an option. Just as an FYI-the bed doubles as a couch and the bathroom is "open" (door is a curtain) which took some adjusting too.

The location couldn't be beat! We walked to 4 beaches from the cottage. In general, the area is hilly so it might be challenging for some individuals. The Salt Pond Bay trailhead is 5 or so minutes down the road. Salt Pond Bay is a great beach. It could be considered "rustic" but it was our personal favorite. It wasn't overly crowded, beautiful clear water, and great swimming.

Additionally, there are two rock beaches within walking distance. It took a few attempts to find them but they were beautiful. For close-by snorkeling, Kiddle was pretty good. It wasn't better than WaterLemon cay though.

We walked to Lameshur bay beach. It is a hike, but a very nice beach!

Without a doubt, if we have the opportunity to return to the island, we would stay in the same location. The area felt very safe, driving distance to the Northshore beaches wasn't too bad, it was away from the hustle bustle of Cruz Bay, and there are good places to eat nearby (e.g. Skinny Leg's cheeseburgers, Concordia pizza night, Tourist Trap's lobster rolls, Miss Lucy's brunch). The only thing I'd do different would be spend a little bit more money and stay at the other cottage rented on the property. We took a peak and there was a lot more space. Granted, we didn't spend too much time in the cottage but the sun does set surprisingly early in May (6:45ish) and a little more space would have been welcomed.

perfect

We stayed in the studio at Lameshur cottages for 10 days and fell in love with the place. The studio is beautiful, and beautifully situated, overlooking this sweet valley. The roofed porch is a charming outdoor room where we spent much time, always cooled by the breeze blowing down the valley. We walked to the beaches we love - big and little Lameshur, Kiddel, Grutpan and Salt pond, easily caught the bus into town, and walked to the nearby Concordia resort for a drink or dinner. Liz was there to help out whenever we had a question. She keeps the place in perfect order. Everything is clean and fresh, orderly and pretty. We would go back in an instant, and recommend both cottages highly. We stayed in the studio, but also toured the larger cottage, also a wonderful place to stay with a bit more space. We spent our last two nights at Concordia, which is spectacular, but we much preferred our studio at Lameshur Cottages.

All you need for a fabulous beach vacation in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I just spent an incredible week at Lameshur. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for to relax and enjoy this tropical paradise! Has everything you need - including beach chairs, cooler, kayak, snorkel gear which makes it much better than any hotel! Very thoughtfully and tastefully decorated (Liz is an artist and has given the cottage a very colorful and homey feel). Outdoor deck is perfect for coffee in the mornings and cocktails before dinner with a nice breeze. Very clean and comfortable. Located in the peaceful, quiet valley of Coral Bay, which is much less built up and touristic than Cruz Bay, but still has some great options for restaurants and bars. Cottage is very near Salt Pond Bay Beach (which is beautiful and has great snorkeling - especially if you want to see turtles!) and two of our favorite hiking trails - Ram's Head and Reef Bay. Russ was a fabulous host - he was very welcoming, gave us tons of suggestions for day trips, beaches, restaurants, etc. and even helped us wash our car on the last day so the rental car company wouldn't charge us extra.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing, low-key and affordable beach vacation!

A Perfect Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the studio cottage and found it to have everything we needed. As other reviewers have said, it is a private, quiet, no-frills place. However, we appreciated that the owners had supplied guide & fiction books, music and movies in the cottage. They also had thought of all the little things guests would need for a tropical vacation: beach towels, beach bag, snorkel gear, floats, and even a kayak. Russ was helpful with suggestions and answering questions, but unobtrusive otherwise.

We absolutely loved the location: picturesque mountain views and very quiet. It was nice to be away from the bustle of Cruz Bay but still have plenty of options for dining out or heading to the beach in Coral Bay. The small but well supplied kitchen made our trip much more affordable as we were able to cook many meals in. We found the Dolphin Market in Cruz Bay quite reasonable for groceries; the prices were comparable to the more expensive chains in the Northeast. We heeded the advice in other reviews regarding the bugs - brought bug spray for sunset on the porch, were careful with putting food away and taking the trash out regularly – and therefore did not have any issues.

It was a wonderful trip and we would stay at the Cottages again in a heartbeat.

Pleasant house and location

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I honeymooned here and it was wonderful. The studio is cozy and the pure views (no other houses except one across the street in site) of the mountains/hills of St. John are wonderful. We also had great walking access to a handful of different bays. There is another house right next door, but the family staying there was pretty quiet, so we had no issues. As some reviewers have noted, there are bugs. Some mosquitoes managed to get in the house somehow. I think most of the problem was the no-see-ems. But it didn't detract from our experience much. I'd rather live more in the open air and deal with just a little bugs, than not be able to feel the nice Caribbean winds. Would definitely recommend as an affordable quaint getaway.

Owner's Response: We are a "beachy casual " place. Pastel colors and island decorations .We are not the WESTIN . If you need air conditioning and masonary walls walls go there. Want fresh towels every day and mint on your pillow at night ? We are "adorable and affordable".

A Relaxing Stay in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay for our 20th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time and felt the Lameshur cottage was the perfect base for our trip. We stayed in the studio cottage which was very charming. It is just right for a couple wanting a private, intimate, no-frills place to stay. It had everything we needed. We really liked being on the quiet side of the island and in no way found it too remote. We were able to get to anything we wanted to see in a reasonably short time.

Liz was on the property while we were there and was the perfect hostess. Totally non intrusive, but could be found if we needed anything. The only real "issue" we found during our stay was that the remotes for the TV and Dvd player were broken which made using these devices tedious, switching imputs was near impossible. However, as we were not there to watch tv it was not much of a problem for us.

I will now address any concerns one might have from our perspective. Bugs: It is the tropics, there are mosquitoes, no-see-ums, opportunistic ants and roaches. We could not sit on the outside patio in the evenings because of mosquitoes, but did enjoy sitting out there in the morning. We also braved the mosquitoes to quickly grill on the porch and then would bring in our meal to the enclosed patio dining area, which was lovely. We never had a problem with mosquitoes in the cottage, I think we only ever found one inside. The screens (which provide a wonderful, airy atmosphere) are tight enough fitting to be effective. We had no problem with No-see-ums (tiny biting flies) at the cottage, though if you are out in the Lameshur Bays/ Yawzi point area around sundown get ready to be eaten alive. Bring bug spray! We never had ants in the cottage, and only once saw a small roach-like bug on the counter (our fault as we left a plate of cookies out overnight). We are originally from Florida and the bugs there were much worse. The bugs in NO WAY detracted from our enjoyment, just a reality to be aware of.

Kitchen: Is well enough equipped for light cooking, grilling. If you want to get real fancy you might need to make creative use of what's there. We ate most of our meals in and managed fine.

The bathroom: Some have mentioned the curtain separating the bath from living area. This did not bother us and we felt the bathroom was adorable and the shower had a lovely open air feel. Hot water was very limited, but no surprise there, nor much need for it.

We will be back, asap!
