Long weekend at apartment

This was a wonderful apartment, very clean and ready for our arrival. Shannon clearly is a good manager of this property, promptly returning all emails and preparing the apartment. I agree with all the comments about the wonderful location, good for walking to shops and restaurants, and a lovely deck. There were only 2 reasons that we rated this property as 'good' and not 'excellent.'
The bedroom is located in the front of the building, and across the street from a busy, popular restaurant. It is noisy - not from the patrons but from the delivery trucks that start arriving at 6:30 AM and continue pretty much non-stop until 12 noon - refrigerated trucks that remain running, slamming of dumpsters to pick up garbage every day, etc. We learned to close the windows and turn on the air after our first evening, which helped a bit. Also, neighbors across the street were using a jackhammer all day, up until 7 PM in the evening. It's a great location in terms of convenience and walkability, but folks should also know that it's not a remote, quiet location but a vibrant, 'well-lived' neighborhood.
A bigger problem for us was the mattress, which was exceedingly soft. My husband and I rolled into the middle. Lovely for closeness (we were there celebrating our 25 anniversary) but uncomfortable for our bodies. I had trouble getting out of the bed without pain the next morning and suffered from back pains for those three nights and the next two weeks that followed. I do not recommend this apt. for anyone with back issues or other ailments that require a firm mattress. Check with Shannon to see if a new mattress was purchased before renting. Your back will thank you!
Restaurants that we would highly recommend: "The Corner Kitchen" (breakfast in particular was great), "Limones" (our favorite restaurant for both food and atmoshphere), "Table," "Tupelo Honey" (our second favorite - try the Shrimp and Grits, huge biscuits), "Early Girl Cafe," and "French Broad Chocolate Lounge" (Liquid Truffles are pure heaven).

Owner's Response: This is a wonderful apartment! It is located right in Biltmore Village, so it is not a remote location if that is what you are looking for. There are many great restaurants and shops within walking distance, along with being close to the Biltmore Estate, Downtown Asheville, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I believe this is what makes our apartment have such a great location!
This was the first complaint I have ever had about the mattress. The mattress was only about a year old but as soon as I heard that the mattress was not comfortable for our guest, I addressed the issue immediately. We decided that the apartment could use a firmer mattress and it was purchased and put in the apartment.
We welcome any feedback that could make the apartment better because we want this to be a very relaxing and comfortable place to vacation. The Chapman House and its guests have been a joy for my husband and I over the past 5 years that we have owned and managed it. We have had the best guests that anyone could ask for and many have returned over the years. We take great pride in the apartment and will continue to make it a fabulous place to stay!
