Built during the early 1900’s, The Chapman House is an original surviving cottage of Historic Biltmore Village. It is part of a picturesque manorial village planned by none other than George Washington Vanderbilt (1862-1914), the founder of the vast and awe inspiring Biltmore Estate.
Initially, the European inspired village housed estate workers and servants, and was the center of community life, the location of schools, post office, train depot, infirmary, and church. However, through the course of time, a number of changes have occurred and the village has become a center for art, music, shopping, and restaurants resting just outside the entrance of the Biltmore Estate.
The Chapman House is the only cottage within the village that incorporates a mixed occupancy. A two-story structure, the upstairs apartment maintains a lodging facility complete with a full kitchen, bath, bedroom, foyer, living room, parking, and back porch overlooking the village.
The historic nature of the structure is preserved with original hardwood floors, doors, hardware, lathe and plaster walls, exterior appearance, and overall ambiance. The downstairs maintains a mercantile atmosphere, currently the home of Curtis Wright Outfitters, a retail store with goods for hiking, fishing, and outdoor lifestyle.
Enjoy the convenience of walking to dozens of local shops and restaurants, driving five minutes to downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, or visiting the Biltmore Estate located two tenths of one mile away. Experience the diversity of four seasons with warm springs, green summers, colorful falls, and cool winters. The Chapman House offers a unique experience set within Historic Biltmore Village, located in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina.
I can't say enough about how much I love to visit The Chapman House. I have visited each holiday season since 2011. It is a home away from home. The owner, Shannon, is wonderful. She responds to phone calls and emails promptly. She makes certain I don't lose my dates each year as I love to spend either Christmas or New Year's in Asheville.
The location cannot be beaten. The Biltmore Village is just outside the gate of the Biltmore Estate. It is full of shops and restaurants. It is an easy drive to downtown or the River Arts district.
The apartment itself is historic. The original floors creak! The furnishings are lovely. The kitchen is fully equipped. The shower may be on the small side, but the water pressure and temperature are great.
This is our place when we go to Asheville for our food fix, craft beer fix, and Biltmore fix. We hope to return as often as possible.
My wife and I were celebrating some milestone birthdays and our upcoming anniversary. This was our first trip to Asheville. We arrived and were so happy with the location, right in the middle of the Biltmore Village. if you are going to tour the Biltmore, it is so close, but you must drive.
The patio was amazing! We spent a lot of out nights out there. The kitchen supplied everything we needed to eat in, when we wanted. We had a fantastic experience and we will be returning to The Chapman House. On a side note, I forgot my jacket when we left and Shannon was amazing and mailed it back to me. Thank you for our experience and giving us a wonderful place to celebrate.
My husband and I spent two nights in this lovely apartment. The apartment was decorated with such charming furnishings...loved experiencing this piece of history. We enjoyed having breakfast at the Corner Cafe --- which was directly across the street. Very close and convenient to the Biltmore Estate. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who has a love for the past. Great apartment at a great price. We would definitely rent this apartment again.
Great place at a great location for a great price. Very short drive from downtown Asheville. Shannon was very attentive. Would recommend to any couple staying in Asheville who is looking for a cozy place that is a bit more interesting than your average hotel room. Thanks!
We absolutely loved our 4 day stay, and hated to leave. The decor was very eclectic and welcoming. Since the Corner Kitchen is our favorite restaurant, being right across the street was a real bonus. We love visiting Asheville, and this was by far our favorite place we stayed. Hopefully it will be available again when we come back in the spring. Thanks, Shannon for providing such a homey historic place to stay.
I had the pleasure of living at Chapman House from April 2010 through November 2010. I loved the place. Quaint charm, historic area, walking distance to excellent food, drink, shopping. I can't say enough about the apartment. The kitchen is ready for whatever meal you wish to prepare right down to basic spices. Laundry facilities, outdoor covered patio with music if you please. In the heart of the historic Biltmore Village you are across the street from the Corner kitchen (it was President Obama's choice for dinner in the fall of 2010), short walking distance to the Fig, Red Stag and Rezaz (excellent food, try the smoked ceasar salad) for finer dining. Mexican fare served at the Neo Cafe and my personal favorite and a favorite of locals, the Village Wayside (excellent food at a fair price). All of these places are a 5 minute walk from Chapman House. Getting back to the apartment...I miss it very much. I push every day to be transfered back to Asheville and to Chapman House. Shannon's attention to detail is excellent. She enjoys what she's doing with Chapman House and it shows. Thank you. Scott A.
