Ski details:
We are open all the year round, and do have visitors during the winter months. Auvergne is pretty in the winter and has lot to offer during the snow season. Cross country skiing and downhill skiing is available in the ski resorts of Mont Dore, Super Besse and the Bourbonnais mountains near Vichy. Travel to these resorts are possible from La Platriere, taking in average 1 1/2 hours drive. So take the benefit of our low season prices to visit these resorts and enjoy winter fun. Also available at Puy de Dome are snow toboganning and sledging. A great fun time for the family! For the keen angler, why not try something different by ice-fishing in the crater lakes of the volcanoes!
Wine course and tour:
Guests at La Platriere can book in for our wine course and tour. These courses are informal, informative, friendly and fun! The price is 800 euros for 2 people sharing a room and includes the following:

Traditional French Cuisine Cooking Holiday:
Have fun learning some rural French dishes, tasting new foods and meeting some interesting people. This week long holiday incorporates participants learning by a “hands-on” experience – no sitting back and watching!
Classes are held in a farm Auberge, in a relaxed atmosphere with an experienced french chef. The maximum number of participants for each class is 12, and all classes benefit from an interpreter present to translate into english. For all skill levels this course is great value, and is informal so you'll never feel out of place.
This cooking holiday will provide the opportunity for you to experience life in rural France and learn traditional methods of cooking which can be adapted easily in your kitchen at home, so that you take back a “taste of france” with you to enjoy long after your holiday is over. Whats more - non-cooking guests are welcome too. So bring along your friend/partner for a reduced rate. Dates for 2008 are; 7-14 June; 11-18 October. price 1025 euros.
Ski:
During the winter months you can enjoy cross country skiing, snow-walking and sled riding at the ski resorts in Central Auvergne at Monte Dore which is approximately 1 1/2 hours drive away.
Golf:
There is an excellent championship 18 hole golf-course at Magny-Cours which is 28 km (17 miles). Smaller courses available more locally
At only 17 miles away, the Formula One Racing Circuit at Magny-Cours is easily accessible. The French Grand Prix is held here every year, with this years event being held on the 14th, 15th and 16th of July 2006. Also held at the circuit of Magny-Cours is the annual Bol d'Or motorbike endurance event (usually during September) and the World Championship Superbike event held in September/October. Not to be missed for serious bikers! Our accommodation at La Platriere is biker friendly.
There is also a racing circuit at Lurcy-Levis where you can enter your own vehicle for racing or why not get a group of you to hire the circuit? Please telephone us for further details.
Other Activities:
Just 10 minutes drive away there are superb lakeside beaches, one with a waterslide, for family days out. Pedalos, canoes, and sailing are available.
