This house is great for family reunions. It is very private, located close to and between the town of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Situated above Frenchman Bay with over 12 acres of woodlands behind it, Sols Cliff House enjoys some of the most magnificent views on Mt. Desert Island. On its inland side, the house has views of Acadia National Park's mountains for which the island is so well known. It also includes a large dining room, a large living room, library, kitchen, butler's pantry and laundry room, six fireplaces (with the four on the ground floor available for use), a second floor porch overlooking the water, a long terrace along the water side of the house, two sheltered picnic areas in Italian style loggia and a large, detached game house.
Sols Cliff has belonged to the same NYC based family since it was built in 1915.
Daniel Gerard purchased this estate in 1915
The finest location on Mount Desert Island.
We cant say enough about "SOLS CLIFF HOUSE". This was our second trip back to this wonderful house. If you have a big family and want to go away all together this is the place. The views are breathtaking!!! There is so much room in this house. Its also very quiet there in the morning the sun rise right in the backyard and you can hear the lobster boats going out to fish. Its everything Maine!! The location is perfect close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. There's so much to do or you can just do nothing. Our best memories are seating around the very large dinning room table and having dinner and sitting in the living room playing whisper down the lane by the fire with the grandkids.
Our time at your house beginning the week of August 2 was a wonderful experience. We celebrated our 50th anniversary by having our three girls, their husbands, and nine grandchildren ages 24 to 12. It couldn't have been a better place to celebrate. The boys had a great time playing basketball in the out building, especially on the one rainy afternoon that we had. One evening one of the boys played his guitar in the library with a fire and we sang songs and danced. Each morning we had coffee looking at Frenchmans bay. Most days were spent exploring the park. All 17 of us used Atlantic Climbing School and went rock climbing at Otter Cliffs.
Your house was a perfect location for our family, and it is truly a treasure.
The house sits up off the water and overlooks Frenchman Bay. There are no houses between Sols Cliff and the water and it is very private. Cadillac, the largest mountain on Mount Desert Island, is visible form the driveway side of the house.
Other interesting Activities: The Asticou, Thuya, and Rockefeller gardens as well as the Wild Gardens of Acadia, the Molly Dodd Tall Ship for sailing excursions, whale watching excursions, Sand beach, the Glen Mary Pool for children, the Park Loop Road drive for exploring Acadia National Park, as well as many and varied walks, easy to adventurous, throughout the park.
