The Sea of Cortez beach egress is directly off the front steps of our Casa. View our YouTube Video titled 'Walk to the Beach' found below in 'Links to more information' and see for yourself. Enjoy unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez to the east and exceptional Sierra de La Giganta Mountain views to the west from your private roof top 'Margarita' terrace. The authentic Mexican Village of Loreto center is a quick 5 minute drive by car or 15 minute (+/-) walk down the beach to the malecon. We are confident that you will be very pleased with our Casa and the established Costa Loreto neighborhood with its beautifully landscaped cactus gardens, palm trees and shaded pergola and palapa style patios.

Just a few feet from the Sea of Cortez, you will discover La Casa de Ensueno, the perfect place to stay in Loreto for relaxation and for exploration of Baja California Sur. Between the soaring peaks of the Sierra de La Giganta Mountains and the beautiful azure Sea of Cortez, is the soul stirring historic Mexican fishing village of Loreto. Our Casa is situated within easy walking distance to the boat harbor, malecon, banks, restaurants, shopping and Loreto Village Center where you will find the Church.

La Casa de Ensueno is perfect for travelers who do not want the typical hotel atmosphere. The tasteful Mexican accommodations and decor will make you feel very comfortable and relaxed during your stay. Soon, you will find yourself gazing at beautiful sunrises over the Sea of Cortez and sunsets over the Sierra de la Giganta mountain range. As the sky casts its stunning colors against the Isla Coronado and Isla Carmen hillsides and the mountain ranges of the Sierra de la Giganta, you will soon fall deep under the spell of Loreto.

La Casa de Ensueno is a two story spacious property that offers two separate and private living quarters, La Ventana (~2900 sq ft including outdoor living areas) and El Jardin (750 sq ft). The property also has a 1200 sq ft garage named La Giganta for secure inside boat and auto storage that is available upon advance request for an additional fee.

The colorful second floor living quarters named La Ventana has a full kitchen with dishwasher, two large master bedrooms with King Size beds and back balcony access through sliding glass doors, two bathrooms with showers, family room, living room with full size sofa sleeper, and spacious dining room. La Ventana includes private access to the large covered front porch with comfortable bar top height table and chairs, chaise lounge, and authentic Mexican equipale table and chairs. In addition, you will have private access to the roof top 'Margarita' terrace that provides unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez to the east and exceptional Sierra de La Giganta Mountain views to the west. From La Ventana's large front covered porch, roof top 'Margarita' terrace, and from several of the interior living spaces, you will have stunning views of the Sea of Cortez and Isla Coronado and Isla Carmen hillsides and the Sierra de la Giganta Mountain range.

Each of the two separate and private living quarters of this authentic colorful Mexican Casa can be rented individually by the day (5 day minimum), week or by the month. The entire Casa, Outdoor Living Spaces, & Garage (~4,800 sq ft) is also available for longer term periods dependent upon availability.

About Bert & Terri Ferguson

My wife and I are active scuba divers, sport fisherman, hikers and mountain bikers. Overall, we consider ourselves an adventurous couple who have a great love and appreciation for the outdoors!

Bert & Terri Ferguson purchased this house in 2005

Why Bert & Terri Ferguson chose Loreto

In Loreto Baja California Sur, we found a region with a rich and vibrant history. Loreto was the original capital of all the Californias over 300 years ago. It was established in 1697 by the explorer Juan Maria Salvatierra, a Jesuit priest. You can see evidence of this history in the Missions, municipal buildings and the hearts and souls of the Loretanos.

Loreto is a natural playground for anyone who loves the outdoor life. Its azure, clear waters and tranquil coves provide scuba divers and snorkelers unparalleled underwater beauty and an abundance of sea life. Near the islands, the waters provide sportsmen with perhaps the greatest fishing in the world, with record catches of sailfish, tuna and dorado. The islands are easily visited by boat and such a trip will no doubt include sightings of sea lions basking in the sun on rocky coasts and dolphins leaping across the bow wave of the boat.

Sea kayakers glide through the warm waters of Loreto’s bays to camp at remote beaches and sleep under the stars.

For those who are more land-bound adventurous, the Sierra de la Giganta’s provides many opportunities for mountain biking, horseback riding trails and hiking over ancient trails used for hundreds of years.

What makes this house unique

Our Casa is ~50 feet from the beach and ocean, with easy access directly off the front steps of the property. The town’s oceanfront malecon is walking distance from the Casa and is an ideal place for an afternoon stroll; or in the early morning, when the offshore islands appear like floating rocks in the Sea of Cortéz. The locals say that this is “where the mountains come to swim.”

Fishing and relaxation are the main reasons we travel to and visit Loreto, BCS, Mexico

  • 3 of 5

We have been renting "la casa de ensueno" for several years during the months of March and April. Obviously we love it since we have been returning every year. We travel here mainly to take our boat out fishing. The fishing is good most years. There are also, many fishing guides in Loreto who will give an aspiring angler a memorable experiece. The casa is very comfortable and has all of our needs for a home away from home for two months.

whale watchers

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our visit to Loreto. We went to see the Blue Whales and were not dissapointed. We took the tour of Isla Coronado with the hope of seeing the whales and our Captain was able to locate them within the first 30 minutes. We were also able to spot whales from the rooftop deck of the Casa. We very much enjoyed relaxing at the house, especially on the front patio with the great views of the sea and mountains. The neighborhood is very nice and we enjoyed watching local workers and neighbors doing various repairs and improvements to their homes. Also, the neighbors were friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Town is just the right size for walking and exploring on foot. With no car the first 2 days we were able to walk to town and get to restaurants and grocery stores in about 20 minutes. The malecon is very nice for a walk to the marina. We got to know all the town dogs on our walks too. So many cute dogs! The local merchants couldn't be nicer and we never had a bad meal. In fact we had some of the best fish tacos and pasta I've ever had. We also enjoyed visiting the missions and going up to Mulege when we had a car. We were so glad we chose to rent this house in town as opposed to staying in Nopolo as we really enjoyed being close to town and the marina. I would recommend this house to anyone for a safe, comfortable, convenient stay in Loreto. I almost forgot to mention how comfortable the beds are! All four of us agreed the beds were perfect. This house has everything you will need for a very nice stay in a great small town.

Owner's Response: Great to hear you and your fellow travelers were able to experience whale watching from our roof top terrace. We're also very pleased to hear you found the accommodations at our Casa comfortable, especially the King Sized Beds!.

Loreto mexico --a great winter get-away, in la casa de ensueno

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in a beautiful house for 4 weeks, located one kilometre north of Loreto, Mexico. We rented the two bedroom top floor, which was almost 2000 sq. ft. In area. Two spacious bedrooms with king sized beds, each with a full bathroom. The house was beautifully furnished, and clean. All the amenities were in full working order, including stove, fridge, dishwasher, micro-wave, barbecue, satellite TV, DVD player, radio, and wifi. The 4 beach bicycles were lots of fun to do our shopping and site -seeing in town. The 3 kayaks were also excellent, easily transported to the beach 50 meters from the house, on a small rolling trailer. There are many good restaurants in town, and the local Mexican people are delightful. The neighbours were friendly and helpful, as the house is in a beautiful enclave where most of the owners are Americans, and many love deep sea fishing. We rented a car for one day only, to drive west across the Baja to the Pacific Coast, to go for a two hour boat tour to see the birthing place for grey whales. Magdalena Bay is the grey whale nursery from January to March each year. The weather was approx 70 to 74 degrees, most days, perfectly comfortable.

Owner's Response: Melodie, It is great to hear you & your travel companions thoroughly enjoyed our Casa and Loreto. You were some of the first guests to benefit from the major remodel of the exterior. Over the Summer of 2014, we added the roof top "Margarita" terrace with spiral staircase, expanded the front covered porch over-looking the Sea of Cortez, and added the back balcony with sliding glass doors off the two master bedrooms. We are also very pleased to hear that you found everything in working order.

Exceptional accomodations

  • 5 of 5

The home was very beautifully furnished, imaculate and outfitted perfectly. The dishes/glassware were beautiful, kitchen well stocked for home cooked meals. Loved eating out on the patio in the morning sunrise and reading in the afternoon sun on the deck or upstairs. Very quiet and peaceful there with super nice neighbors. Easy walk to the beach and then into town. Also loved going out in the double kayak. The owner and property manager were fabulous and even helped us solve problems like lost luggage and other airline failures we had to deal with. I would love to return to Loreto and this home in the future.

Great spot, great city = great trip!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing trip to Loreto!

The condo was clean, nice and had all the amenities we needed. You could just walk across the street to the beach and we had views of the ocean from our patio. We saw both sunrise, sunset and full moon. We would recommend this to a family member or friend to stay and enjoy.

We did use the kitchen quite often making lunches and dinners and wonderful margaritas!

But we did go out on the town as well, there was a big pig fest one of the weekends we were there (that was really fun).

Some of the restaurants we ate at were:

Domingo's Steakhouse

Orlando's - good margs and breakfast

Mission Hotel - margs/guac/salsa/chips

Hotel Oasis

La Picazon - dirt road down a bit, good margs and seabass wrap

El Taco Del Ray - nothing fancy but great tacos

Augies - good happy hour and lots of gringos

For adventure:

Took the snorkeling trip out to Coronado Island - saw whales, dolphins, seals, white sand beach, lunch and snorkeled

Full Moon!

Trip to the Pacific Bay - Magdalena Bay to touch the whales and hiked up the sand dunes

Headed north to Scorpian Bay quiet town where there is normally surfing but no swells those days

GREAT TIME!

Sweet Home Loreto

  • 5 of 5

One never knows for sure how well the beautiful photos and stellar reviews on the VRBO web site actually match the property you're planning to rent, so we were happy to discover that La Casa De Ensueño was as advertised. The whole process of reserving and picking up the keys was simple and efficient, and with a friendly local property manager available in town we knew exactly where to turn for assistance - had we needed any.

The house was clean and the kitchen well equipped. My wife and I spent a week in Loreto and never got bored. There are lots of activities nearby, ranging from hiking in the mountains to kayaking and biking - using the equipment included with the rental. We cooked in most nights, shopping at local grocery stores or the weekend farmer's market.

The only surprise was the sunrise over the ocean that greeted us every morning, what more can you ask for?
