Beautiful apartment and two independent romantic cottages in this exclusive private historic 18th century estate, the Portuguese “Quinta”, in the heart of the historic centre of Sintra (world heritage town) with large (18mx8m) swimming pool and beautiful gardens. Both the apartment and cottages provide two bedrooms, two bathrooms, only 5 minutes walk to the train station, 15 minutes drive to the beach, 30 minutes to Lisbon, 15 minutes to Cascais for more sophisticated night life and shopping.
There are several golf courses near by, including the famous Penha Longa and Estoril Golf course. Sintra is a world heritage site and there is a lot to be seen. This property is in the heart of its centre, and yet it is very peaceful and quiet. There are several beaches within easy reach, from the Guincho beach, famous for its wind surfing, to the Praia Grande beach also famous for surfing.

We arrived in Sintra after a long and tiring journey and we walked from Sintra Villa station towards the town hall as Quinta de Sao Sebastiao was accessed from the road at the side. It was very steep and cobbled and we couldn’t find the main entrance. We phoned Salvador, who lives in the Manor and from whom we were renting the property, and within a couple of minutes he was with us, greeting us like old friends and taking some of our cases. The Quinta is very beautiful with a long drive and we went past the house and down a flight of steps, then through a little passage and down a few more steps. The cottage was beautiful, very rustic but sympathetically modernised. There was everything there we needed, including a washing machine and microwave and Salvador had kindly lain in tea, bacon, eggs, bread, cheese and milk so that we could have something to eat on arrival. We found Salvador to be a charming and helpful host, always on call for information or any problems, and even inviting us to the Manor for drinks and a viewing of the stunning frescoes on the walls. The view from the front of the Manor was breathtaking, with the Castelo dos Mouros on the top of the mountain and the National Palace off to the right.
There are two entrances to the Quinta and you are given the key and a pass code that opens the side gate or the main electric gates. The main shopping area is within a few minutes walk and the station is about 5 minutes away although you cannot hear the trains from the cottage at all. Sintra itself is quaint and quirky (and uphill!!) with many little side alleys crammed with shops and restaurants. There is a horse drawn carriage you can hire to go around the town and a very regular bus service. We did not have a car but got about without any difficulty. Our 3 year old granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed herself especially the beautiful beaches. There is also a playground in Sintra. All in all we had a fantastic holiday. The cottage is peaceful and private and kept very clean. Some of the steps in the garden need to be negotiated with care as they are very old but the garden is beautiful. There is also a swimming pool just off the drive that you climb some steps up cheerful, polite and friendly. We will certainly be going back.to. It is very pretty and the views are stunning. I cannot recommend this holiday home highly enough; both our charming host, Salvador, and all the members of staff are
We've just had a very enjoyable week staying in Sintra.
The cottage is located in the grounds of one of the Quintas (villas) in the town; a wonderfully quiet and secuded location. However, it is within easy walking distance of the old town and numerous sights in Sintra. It's also close to the train station (5 mins - note that you can't hear the trains from the house) and thus a very easy 40 mins into the centre of Lisbon (trains every 20 mins). We didn't hire a car for our visit, using the airport bus/train to get to the cottage, and local buses for sight-seeing (plus the excellent tram to get to the beach).
Sintra is certainly a very nice place to be based for visit to the Lisbon area. Good shops and restaurants within walking distance, plus plenty to see in the local area and not too far from the beach.
The cottage itself is comfortable and well equiped as well as having a lovely 'English style' private garden. There was also daily maid service which we certainly considered to be a bonus. The Qunita has an excellent and quite sizable pool with the most wonderful views - spectacular!
The owner has been a very kind host, ensuring that we had some supplies on arrival and organising a travel cot and high chair for our baby.
All in all a very nice cottage and a great place to stay - recommended.
We have had a fantastic time at the cottage. The location is perfect: in the middle of Sintra and yet very quiet with lots of space. The Quinta is unique with a beautiful garden and splendid views. The cottage is tastefully furnished, all you need is present and in addition there is much to see in Sintra and the environment. Lisbon is not too far and by train (walking distance) within easy reach. In other words, this location is highly recommended (we have also seen the apartment and this also applies to the apartment)!
Sintra is a world heritage site and has a lot to be seen. Royal palaces, museums, exhibitions, restaurants, are all within walking distance from the estate. People can rent special electric bicycles to explore for themselves, the infinite charms of this magical part of the world
There are several golf courses nearby, including the famous Penha Longa, The Marinha and the Estoril Golf course.
Beaches within easy reach include, amongst others, the Guincho beach , famous for its wind surfing, the Praia Grande beach famous for surfing, the beautiful Adraga beach, the Cabo da Roca...
