Hale Luana is approximately 9 miles from Haleiwa, a 3 minute drive to Sunset Beach and a five minute drive to Turtle Bay Resort (great dinners at 3 good restaurants, a golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and a sheltered beach to be enjoyed when the waves are too big). Winter provides the best view of Sunset Beach and Sunset Point, whales and surf. Summer is when those who aren't experienced surfers can enjoy the water- swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
In the winter there is a sheltered beach 5 minutes away by car and there are: sky diving and helicopter rides, horseback riding, hiking and more, year-round. Waimea Valley (directly across from Waimea Bay) is 10 minutes away and the Polynesian Cultural center is 20 minutes away.
HALE LUANA HAS 2 SEPARATE UNITS:
THE SUNSET STUDIO: A large (25' x 14') main room with 3 glass walls (hillside garden on two sides, ocean view at the side, front and from the bed), a hallway to the laundry alcove and the bathroom (with shower). There's an outdoor gas grill (with a burner) and the kitchenette is newly installed; granite counter with 2 glass-top invection units, s/s cookware, a large microwave (microwave cookware), 4 slice toaster, blender, rice cooker, hot pot, coffee grinder, French press, espresso and coffee maker. New photos are not yet posted, available upon request. The TV has an adapter that allows you to watch DVD's using your laptop. There's a portable unit with speakers to play iPods and iPhones.
There's an under the counter refrigerator and another chilled compartment under the filtered water cooler. The bed is a pillow-top king size and the futon couch converts to a queen size bed. This space has been enjoyed by honeymooners, couples with and without children and 3 to 4 young adults traveling together. What guests staying here have said is 'it's been our own private world'.
THE SUNSET SUITE: Staying in the suite includes exclusive use of the living room, fully equipped gourmet kitchen, dining area and the deck. The suite bedroom is a corner room with a sliding door to the ocean facing deck. There's a CD library and an adapter for an iPod. There's also a portable player with speakers for iPods and iPhones. Ocean view from both the side and front of the bedroom, with sliding door/screen to the deck. The bed is king size and comfortable.
The suite is not 'small child friendly'; infants and older children are most welcome. (Parents with walking babies, toddlers, small children stay in the studio.)
On the same floor as the suite is the office/library. There is a door to the office from the rear deck for the caretaker to use (rarely - only when there's a cable related problem and access to the modem is needed) and a door between the kitchen and dining areas to go upstairs to her quarters. She's sensitive to the issue of privacy and makes herself scarce after showing you where everything is. (Note: To accommodate more than 1 or 2 guests in the suite. there's a queen size bed in the office. It is available @ 40. per day for 1, or 60. per day for 2.) There's a second washer and dryer for the use of suite guests. Guests staying here have enjoyed waking, saying they feel as though they found a home away from home, only better, and always hoping to return.
(For guests traveling with infants or babies, there is a port-a-crib with sheets, blankets and mobile, floor play mat/infant 'gym', floor seat, 2 strollers, a Pack 'n Play with sheets, a bathinette, a high chair and a diaper bag to take to the beach.)
At the pool there are 4 chaise lounges, 1 table with 6 chairs and an umbrella and 1 table with 2 chairs. The Jacuzzi runs 24/7 and has a hydraulic lift for the top.
The caretaker can make reservations for massages ($85), private hula lessons, bicycle rentals (if additional ones are needed), catered meals and chartered helicopter rides, etc., if you make arrangements in advance.
Please note that the calendar only reflects when both units are rented. Mahalo.

The Hale Luana was absolutely incredible. We stayed in the Sunset Studio and could not have been happier. The glass windows allowed us to wake up to an incredible view of the North Shore where we could see the waves rolling in and could watch the sunset at night. Everything we possibly needed was included from condiments to laundry supplies. Not to mention that to get to the house you must have a code to clear the security to gate so safety was never a concern. Louise was incredible to deal with and made sure everything went smoothly. We would absolutely recommend staying at the Hale Luana!
We just returned from our stay on the north shore and already wish we were back! We stayed in the suite and it was beautiful, spacious, and had a great view of the ocean. We kind of felt like we were up in the jungle with all the tropical plants and trees surrounding the property. We even got to know and like the little geckos that visit the house. It felt like a rustic, authentic "Hawaiian" house which we liked vs. a sterile hotel room.
We loved having our coffee out on the lanai and watching the whales and the waves. The view from the inside living room is just as great because of the big windows. There were so many extra amenities available that wouldn't have been included in a hotel stay that we definitely took advantage of- like beach chairs, towels, stroller, pack n play for our 6 month old daughter, etc. Louise was so accommodating and had great recommendations, we really appreciated her hospitality. Overall, renting this property was a huge part of why we enjoyed our vacation so much and I'd definitely stay here again if we return!
My wife and I spent a very relaxing vacation at Hale Luana for our 20th anniversary. The property is wonderful. The pictures online really do the property justice. The location is great, and the view from the lanai of Sunset Beach is awesome. We saw giant waves, spectacular sunsets, and many humpback whales. Louise, the property manager is great to work with. She really made our visit worry free. I recommend Hale Luana to anyone. If we come back to O'ahu I will definitely try to book this place again.
My Wife and I had a wonderful stay . Hale Luana is a beautiful estate . We really enjoyed the private gated property and felt really secure . "Louise" the property manager was wonderful and looked into any of our needs .She even helped us get private parking during the "Pipe Masters" event .The views from Hale Luana were amazing . We really hope to come back . Greg and Maylee
Gorgeous 180 degree ocean view with amazing sunsets every night of our stay. Hale Luana is all as described and more in the VRBO descriptions and reviews. You won't be disappointed staying in this vacation home. The only problem we had was having to leave the beauty and comforts of Hale Luana for our daily sightseeing adventures. It was a pleasure returning after a long day for a dip in the pool and relaxing on the veranda surrounded by the beautiful view. Hale Luana is nicely decorated and wonderfully equipped for every need in all the rooms. The privacy and security on the grounds is very comforting. Louise has paid attention to every detail and will respond quickly to any further need. We will strongly consider returning for another stay in the future. Don't forget to try Ted's Bakery and Romy's Shrimp shack. There is plenty to do and see nearby with easy access to everything.
This place is awesome! Located on the North Shore, just 2 mins from Sunset Beach, u have the most beautiful view you can imagine. Rainbows in the morning, sunset in the evening:) After a long flight (from Austria, actually 3 long distance flights in a row) we arrived in Hawaii quite tired, but immediately felt like home when arriving at the Property. First I have to say, that the road that leads to the house is a private one, so you feel very safe there. The apartment is in perfect order, tastefully decorated and Louise is such a nice person, she really did her best to make our holiday a perfect one. She also helped us find the right doc when one of our kids got an ear infection...
The property also counts of a very well-kept garden with a nice pool that we (and especially our kids) loved very much:)
This was a perfect holiday - we'll come back to Hawaii as soon as possible, and when we do, we'll stay at this house again, we couldn't imagine a better place to stay here in Oahu!
Greetings from Austria,
Marlene, Tom & family
