Photos and Description of the Camden vacation cottage rental
1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4.

Avonlea Cottage is off the beaten path in the town of Washington (about 30 minutes from Camden and Augusta). There are approximately 150 feet of frontage on clear, clean Crystal Lake - a rural, quiet, peaceful area with minimal motorboat activity. The cottage sits on a 1/2 acre wooded property with path to water, which is about 100 feet from cottage. There is good swimming with a shoreline combination of small rocks, gravel and sand. Also available is a public beach down the road at the boat launch (carry-in only). There is good fishing with a chance to catch brook and brown trout as well as small and large mouth bass. There are pretty views across lake to undeveloped land. Neighbors are shielded from view by foliage. Canoe, picnic table, chairs, gas grill and dock are included. Guest must bring bottled water. Rental dates are Sunday to Sunday.

Lake Description: Crystal Lake is approximately 100 acres and has very little development. It is a quiet lake with minimal motor boat activity. Jet skis are banned from the lake and the public access is limited to carry in only. Wildlife includes nesting loons and families of ducks. Bald eagles can be seen occasionally. For anyone interested in fishing, the lake is stocked yearly with brown and brook trout. It also contains plenty of smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pickerel, yellow perch, and sunfish.

Comments from previous renters: I enjoyed your place by Crystal Lake very much. You got me thinking of purchasing my own place by a lake some day.

We had a great time! We had a nice sunny week so got a lot of swimming and canoeing in.

We had a very peaceful week of swimming, sunning, reading, and writing! Your cabin is perfect.

I love this wonderful place. It's peaceful, beautiful, and comfortable.

Thanks for you interest: Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

There is excellent fishing, swimming, and boating on Crystal Lake as well as on numerous nearby bodies of water. There are many excellent hiking trails such as the Georges Highland Path or various trails at Camden Hills State Park. It's only a short drive (about 30 minutes) to the ocean and scenic coastal towns such as Camden, Rockland, Rockport, or Belfast. These towns offer fine shops, golf, galleries, museums, movies, and fine and casual dining, ferry service to Vinal Haven, North Haven, and Isleboro Islands. Midcoast Maine offers many opportunities for indoor activities and outdoor adventures.

Notes:
The kitchen has a full size refrigerator/freezer. The cottage sleeps two comfortably in the new full-size bed in the bedroom. A new futon couch is in the living room and can be used for a bed, such that the cottage can sleep four people. (Our family of five often stays at Avonlea, so it can potentially sleep five.) Paddles and various life jackets are provided. There is a picnic table and fireplace outside. Window fans are available. The bathroom has a flush toilet and a shower. With the switch to digital, the tv no longer gets reception except for occasionally PBS. - The water is drawn from the lake, so renters must provide their own drinking water. - Linens can be provided for a fee of $40. - Rental runs from Sunday to Sunday.

Prefect Maine Lakeside Cabin

We rented Chris' camp for 2 weeks in October. We loved waking up every morning to the view of crystal pond. We took the canoe out and fished and also saw painted turtles. We also enjoyed the deck and adirondack chairs . The bed was very comfortable and the wood stove kept us warm. We loved the remoteness but also having wifi too. Would highly recommend if you want some rest and relaxation on a quiet lake in the fall. Chris was very accommodating and was very responsive.  Great place!

Perfect camp

My partner and I booked this place without ever having been to Maine and knowing nothing about the Maine phrase 'camp' (which is somewhere between camping under canvas and staying in a log cabin in the woods). The location (Washington town) was about 30 minutes from some very nice coastal towns. The cabin could be described as basic, but this does not do the ambience justice. The listing is accurate. The property was nicely clean when we arrived and there was an information pack that helped orient the visitor. The bed was extremely comfortable. There was plenty of hot water. It was no chore, at all, bringing our own drinking water. The kitchen is well stocked. The living room perfectly comfortable. The owners were exceptionally helpful and welcoming (we arrived to a bunch of fresh flowers in a mason jar on the table in the dining room and not a single sign saying "DO NOT etc. etc." as happens in so many rentals). It really felt like our own little cabin in the woods. My partner and I spent most of our time hanging out on the deck, watching the squirrels, chipmunks, dragonflies, ducks and loons go about their business. We had one of the most peaceful holidays we could remember ever having. This is NOT a rental for people more concerned with luxuries and being in the middle of things. It is a perfect holiday rental if you want to relax, catch up on some reading and have a great base to go exploring, take in a coastal town or two or do some hiking. The accommodation may be basic, yet in this case, basic is not an insult. The cabin is perfectly well appointed and a very enjoyable place to stay. There were two small downsides. As the cabin is in the woods and as it has only a few windows, it is a little dark inside and you tend to need the lights on during the day to see things. Also, if you do get restless, it is 30 minutes into the nearest place that has things to do.
The best day we had was virtually every day - coffee on the deck bathed in morning sunshine: the worse was being thrown into the tourist throng of Monhegan after the lovely tranquility of Crystal Pond.

Crystal Lake Cottage

This was our second vacation at the Crystal lake cottage, its a great get away from the rat race. This rustic 1 bedroom cottage is set on a quite lake with the loons being the loudest thing around. I fish most of the day and my wife loves to read out on the shaded deck watching the wildlife pass by. With no cable or internet makes the evenings quite interesting, there is an array of puzzles and games, leading to some furious "Skip-Bo" games. Everything else is there, microwave, outdoor grill, canoe, and toys for the kids. The beach area in front of the cottage is sandy and weed free, as most of the lake is.
Even though this property is rather secluded and out of the way, it's still only a short ride to the coast , for a day in Camden for dinner or just sight seeing. Area lakes offer fantastic fishing in early summer.
The Cottage is well maintained and clean, and is a good getaway vacation if your heading to Maine.

Absolutely beautiful location! Quiet lake with loons & ducks. Lake is warm & has plenty of fish, perfect size for kayaking around. Lots to do nearby (Camden Hills State Park, Camden & Rockland village, Owls Head Lighthouse and more). Cottage was comfortable for 2 people, however it was very rustic - fine for us, as we didn't spend a lot of time inside!
