|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
The cottage is only minutes to world famous Magens Bay and Mahogany Run Golf course. It is centrally located between Charlotte Amalie and
Havensight for shopping/sightseeing and Red Hook and the East End for the ferry to St. John.
This charming French West Indian structure is a stand alone cottage fashioned after the architecture of the homes that are built on the Caribbean Island of St. Barths. Upon opening the gate, you are greeted with the view of the entire peninsula of Peterborg and Magens Bay. The entry to the cottage is flanked on both sides by magnificent boulders and lush vegetation. It is private and seculded, but the small friendly neighborhood also has homes nearby.
The elevation (600 feet above sea level) and the trade wind breezes make air conditioning unnecessary. In addition, there are ceiling fans in every room which provide further comfort.
When entering the cottage, you step into the large, open, living/dining room with screened windows stretching the entire length of the room. Once again, providing panaromic views.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed accommodating two people. The second bedroom has two single beds accommodating two additional people. The bathroom has a large walk in shower, a large window overlooking the garden, and is spacious and bright. The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything needed to cook those special meals. Or maybe you would rather dine alfresco and grill outside on the deck.
Your vacation will truly be a memorable one should you choose to stay at Whispering Palms. The owners are close by and available to assist with your every need. Please contact us with any questions; we will be happy to speak with you.
We will meet you at the airport and help you get your rental car. We will then escort you to the cottage, give you the keys, and show you around. Should you wish, we can also stop along the way for groceries, or anything else that you may need.

My husband, Ken, and I are now retired. We relocated from Massachusetts almost 25 years ago. Ken is a woodworker and meticulously returned the cottage to its original splendor, while I have been in charge of the furnishings and interior. It has ended up being a winning combination.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2010
This cottage was built in 1974, and was within sight of our home while we were building. For many years we thought about what a special place it was. When it became available early last year, we decided to purchase it for a vacation rental.. We moved to the lovely Virgin Islands after vacationing for several years in 1984 and realized that this is exactly where we wanted to live and spend all of our time.
The cottage has an old world charm not available in many of the contemporary rental villas. The cottage provides lots of outdoor living which is exactly what you want in the great weather which the Caribbean provides. The evenings are especially beautiful with the lights of the valley twinkling in the distance.
My family and I truly enjoyed this clean cottage. Joanne met us at a hotel by the airport since we used a local rental car company. When we arrived at the cottage, Joanne gave us a tour and to our surprise we had everything we needed plus more. Even when my husband took the screen door off track by mistake, Ken quick fixed it without disruptin our vacation. We would stay here again! This place has a million dollar view.
My husband and I loved our time at Whispering Palms Cottage. We felt like genuine St. Thomians with our own home on the mountain and a truly fabulous view. The wonderful thing about staying at the Cottage on the hills of the North Side is that you are on your own, but you have competent and trustworthy support and guidance nearby from the cottage owners Joanne and Ken. Staying at the Cottage felt safe, private and relaxing and we enjoyed having the comforts of home such as a comfortable and clean bed, fresh linens, clean bathroom and a well appointed clean kitchen. We felt the furnishings were of nice quality and the seating provided and lighting were very nicely placed both indoors and out.
Because we rented a Jeep from Discount Car Rental we had the freedom to come and go as we pleased and experience what it was like to actually live and drive on island. We drove all over exploring the island to see what there was to see, such as glorious ocean vistas, residences both extravagant and simple and along the way stopped to visit all the must-see tourist destinations and beaches. We grocery shopped, cooked and had a great home base to head out on our daily adventures from.
Top tips for a good time: When Joanne makes a recommendation such as the eating at Sibs on The Mountain, she's speaking with years of experience, so take her good advice. We suggest you definitely pack, and carry with you at all times, sunscreen and bug spray, stay hydrated and remember to always be polite to strangers. Remember to always drive on the left (even when you’re pulling into a parking lot) and adopt the courteous local habit of pausing to letting people into traffic. When you take the car ferry to/from St. John (which is an absolute must do because it’s so great over there) inquire about the schedule for the day, and don’t assume you can catch the last ferry of the day in the last 15 minutes prior to departure to head back to St. Thomas because you might not get a spot and you will be stranded on St. John for the night and miss out on sleeping in your own bed (at the Cottage). Also you don’t have to use the same ferry company over and back, but you will spend more for 2 one way tickets rather than 1 round trip. Overall, relax and have fun on your vacation, you earned it!
The cottage itself has great views, is a great space, well stocked better than my own home and comes with great owners on top of it! I arrived before my mates and Joanne and Ken made sure I had everything I needed, kept me company and took care of all the things I was wondering how I would handle once I arrived. Bonus were the geckos and iguanas that came by for a visit. Really enjoyed the space, view and owners.
My wife and I spent the month of March 2013 at Whispering Palms and thoroughly enjoyed the house. It is perfect for two or three. The location is quite central to the island (assuming you rent a car) with easy trips to downtown, North Shore beaches, Red Hook, and the Tutu Mall. It's elevation and the wonderful privacy were very special. It is exceedingly quiet. The entire living space is a screened porch (with roll up curtains) and a spectacular view of Magen's (much better than the picture above). As noted by others, no air conditioning but we didn't miss it one bit as the breezes were constant and the ceiling fans quite adequate. The house itself is entirely wooden and very West Indian. The kitchen worked very well even for a month and we ate in most of the time. The bathroom was great. The deck was spacious with lots of tree based iguanas for viewing and perfect for breakfast and evening cookouts. Remember to bring binoc's There are 15 or so steps down from the road but it adds to the privacy of the place. On busy cruise ship days we didn't go downtown and never even knew they were around.
Overall we found this place to be perfect in every way. The landlords were great and handled things very well the couple of times we needed things. We highly recommend Whispering Palms for folks looking for a quiet serene and special stay on St. Thomas.
We found this cottage to be exactly as the lovely pictures are posted, and the reviews to be true as written. Joanne and Ken were at the airport at a late hour to greet us at the car rental. They were very patient while we got our car and luggage, and then we followed them to the cottage. Joanne graciously walked us through the cottage, gave us ideas and tips for our week long stay, and let us know they were close by if we needed anything. A perfect beginning to a wonderful week. There were four of us staying (2 couples), and we all had an extremely good time on the island. St. Thomas does have very steep roads, lots of roosters, many iguana, and more jewelery stores than we have ever seen is such a small area. Yes, the cottage location is convenient to Red Hook where ferries and other boating adventures depart, close to many beaches, downtown, and shopping. We enjoyed a fabulous day sail with lunch and snorkeling on New Horizons, and we ferried to St. John twice. St. John is a must to see the views, enjoy the many beaches, snorkel, and explore the trails of VI National Park. Ram's Head trail is a two mile round trip hike to a cliff with outstanding ocean and island views.
So go, kick back, relax, and do stop by the dairy on your way to Magen's Bay for a delicious milkshake to devour on the beach as you soak up the Carribean sun. Enjoy!
I spent 2 summers and 1 spring break on St. Thomas when I was in college. I have many awesome memories of life on the island. Now 25 years later, my oldest daughter has graduated from high school and will be leaving for college soon. As a graduation gift, my wife and I offered to take our daughter to any destination of her choice. I was quite pleased when she chose St. Thomas as our place to celebrate this occasion. I had my daughter find a place to stay and plan our activities for the week since this was her trip. She did a great job in locating "Whispering Palms". This cottage provides you the opportunity to have an authentic island experience with its open air ventilation, backyard iguanas, outdoor space with gas grill and a fabulous view of Magen's Bay. Joanne was a wonderful host and offered as much or as little intervention as you requested. With a rental car you will be free to explore the island at your own pace. Don't be intimidated by the roads or the traffic, just stay in the left lane and you will be alright. The location of the cottage off of Skyline Drive near Valley Road is very easy to navigate to from Magen's Bay, Mountaintop, Downtown and Redhook. There is so much to do on the island that we mostly returned to the cottage in the evenings to grill and chill. If you want to see what it is like to live on a island, this property is for you. You will not be treated like a tourist, but a traveler. You will make memories that will last a lifetime. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to share this time with my wife and daughter. Our favorite activity of the week was sailing on New Horizons and snorkeling at Honeymoon Bay and Christmas Cove. We made frequent trips to Magen's Bay for relaxation and dip in the beautiful water. Open your heart and your mind to this authentic island experience and you will not regret it!
