Photos and Description of the Launceston vacation cabin rental
Cornish cottage, lodges, house twixt moor & coast - on Devon Cornwall border

Ta Mill offers the perfect holiday, be it that long weekend or peaceful break in an idyllic setting. Stay in a traditional Cornish cottage, with its individual character or choose a cosy lodge.

Pump or Smithy cottage: Our Pump cottage is a one bedroom cottage with its cosy woodburner nestled in a huge Inglenook fireplace. The delightful combination of stone, slate and exposed beams exudes character.

Ta Mill House: This house sleeps up to 9 and offers fabulous 4 star accommodation and charming Olde worlde tradition in one. Ta Mill house boasts 4 en-suite shower rooms, a wood burner, oil central heating and a generally spacious holiday home.

Detached Lodges sleeping 4 (discounted by 15% for couples) provide 2 bedrooms. Why not chose a Brookview lodge with a picturesque outlook over the wildlife pond, where you will definately spot our resident moorhens and probably spot the Mallard ducks and visiting Heron. Alternatively our Meadowview lodges have stunning views across the secluded valley and you can sit on the sunny south facing veranda and enjoy the peaceful countryside.

On site you can enjoy the games room with table tennis, pool table and darts or have some fun on our pitch 'n' putt set in an acre of meadowland. Alternatively meander along the picturesque valley on our beautiful Nature trail (wheelchair & pushchair friendly) or relax in the quiet grounds.

Ta Mill is ideally situated for touring both Cornwall and Devon. Nearby attractions include the North cornish coastline, Boscastle, Tintagel, Bude, Padstow and Port Isaac, renowned for the filming of Doc Martin and the historic market town of Launceston with its castle ruins. Eden project and Heligan gardens are well worth a visit. National Trust properties such as Lanhydrock and Cotehele are popular destinations. Although Ta Mill is hidden away in its own peaceful valley, it is superbly situated for visiting the North and South coasts of Cornwall, both Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor and of course countless gardens and historic houses and castles. To entertain the younger visitor local attractions include Trethorne leisure farm (10 miles), Hidden Valley(9 miles) and Crealy adventure park (20 miles).

About Helen Shopland

I was brought up on a farm, just across the border in Devon and went to school in Launceston, so I guess I'm 'Devonish', a mixture of Devonshire and Cornish! I lived and worked away for nearly 10 years before buying Ta Mill, roughly co-inciding with the birth of my first child. Over 16 years later, a second child, plus a sheep dog, cat and many more sheep, Ta Mill has been lovingly renovated and provides a unique hideaway for exploring the beautiful county of Cornwall.

Helen Shopland purchased this cabin in 1997
Why Helen Shopland chose Launceston

Ta Mill is a one-off place. When you first drive along the little country lane on your way to Ta Mill, with the silohettes of Rough Tor and Brown Willy on the horizon you are immediately struck by the magical location. After a couple of miles, you reach Ta Mill and drive down through the tunnel of trees to the secluded hollow where the cottages and lodges are nestled. This unique setting is a real gem and the accommodation allows visitors to experience the quiet ambience for themselves.

What makes this cabin unique

A haven for Nature it is a very relaxing and picturesque setting. It is ideally located, being 15 minutes from the stunning North Cornish cornish coastline and a few miles from the rugged Bodmin Moor. Our cottages offer fabulous 4 star accommodation which is perfect for couples or families and our detached lodges are also a favourite with couples out of season or families in summer. Ta Mill is truely a special place and we hope those who stay will feel refreshed and relaxed after a peaceful break in this beautiful setting.

Autumn break

Thank you for a wonderful stay at Ta Mill. The Lodge was very clean and well equipped and surprisingly warm. The ground at Ta Mill were excellently maintained and the nature trail was a wonderful walk for my two Labradors who really enjoyed it. Although the weather was not very good, it didn't seem such a disappointment when you have a very good clean place to stay with kind and very helpful staff and proprietors. Please use this email if you wish as you deserve the praise and recommendations.
Hope to see you again

The lodge was comfortable and there was enough space to live in. It was very clean, nice bed linen and anti allergic mattresses.
Friendly host.
Quiet surroundings and more beautiful than the photo's show.
We had a lovely view on surrounding hills and meadows.
Good starting point for discovering Cornwall.
