About Karen Tasman

My husband I moved here in January 1995 and have never thought of leaving. We are originally Kentuckians and still avid UK fans but we also love the outdoors. The beauty of SW Florida and weather that permits enjoying it are the perfect match for us.

Karen Tasman purchased this condo in 2005
Why Karen Tasman chose Captiva Island

My husband and I like to fish and enjoy the local wildlife and this was the perfect place to do it all. We live on a canal in Fort Myers and can bring the boat and a car. My husband drives the boat from dock to dock and I bring the car. It has all the comforts of home and then some in our backyard.

What makes this condo unique

We can be on any of the many islands in Lee County within 30 minutes by boat. My favorite is Cayo Costa State Park, because it can only be gotten to by boat, it is pristine. We also have a membership to Useppa Island Club and can share with our guests with a phone call. The best food and atmosphere. The best is being in the center of where we love to fish! We also love to Kayak around Buck Key and stop by Tween Waters for refreshments on the way home. The best of the beach and the bay!

Captiva Island is located in a string of islands along the southwest coast of Florida. It is an easy drive from the airport. Many of the nearby islands have no vehicles or electric vehicles only on seashell roads (golf carts). Useppa Island is a private island with a fabulous 'pink path' along a row of cottages lined with orchids and bromeliads among incredible shade trees. Cayo Costa is a state park with very few private homes and a long, pristine white/seashell beach. Both are only accessible by boat. Edison-Ford Winter Estates, Naples, Bonita Springs, Ft Myers downtown festivals, Cape Coral Art Show, Everblades Hockey, Red Sox or Twins Spring games are among the things you may want to take in during your stay. Take a 'day trip' to explore one of the last settled parts of the US and the numerous entertainment opportunities in the area. Everglades National Pk, Ten Thousand Islands, Big Cypress Swamp, etc. We can help you see all of these and more!

More than we expected

It seems that with any vacation rental, there are always at least a few minor problems. But in this case, everything was in good shape. The condo was well-furnished; we had everything we needed. And everything - appliances, air-conditioning, grill - worked perfectly.
The photos on the web site are good representations. One thing they can't give a sense of, though, is how nice it is to hang out on the screen porch and watch the activities on the bay.
I never counted the number of steps to the beach, although I intended to, but it was a very short and easy walk. And the beach is beautiful - lots of shells, very few people. The location also is easy walking distance to the center of Captiva, whether walking along the beach or along the road. And for all you boaters, the dock is convenient and in good condition.
We had seven people - five adults and two children - and everyone was easily accommodated.
I certainly would recommend this rental property to anyone interested in a stay on Captiva.

Best Kept Secret in Captiva!

5 of 5
Submitted: January 23, 2012 Stayed: January 2012
It is often a tough feat to find a condo which is well-appointed and yet, surprisingly comfortable at the same time. This unit accomplishes just that! The furnishings and decor are top notch, yet, you'll have no problem dropping your sandles and beach bag at the door and putting your feet up and enjoying the beautiful sights from the porch! Just steps across from the beach, Captiva Shores has the best of both worlds (beach and bay) and this unit has one of the best locations in the entire complex! The view from the 2nd floor Master Suite is breathtaking...what an amazing way to wake up! Ideally located with an easy and enjoyable walk to South Seas...with plenty of shoppes and restaurants on the way! You won't find a better appointed or eqipped unit than this and with local ownership, you can rest assured of your complete satisfaction. This unit in Captiva Shores is the best kept secret on the island!

Perfect set up!

5 of 5
Submitted: July 27, 2011 Stayed: July 2011
This townhouse was the perfect set up for us (2 adults & 2 children: 1 and 3yrs). The house looks just like the pics. The interior designer did a great job decorating the house. The house has eveything you need including 2 kayaks, plenty of beach chairs, toys for the beach, umbrella and best of all a red wagon to pull all of your beach stuff. The house is on the bay. So, if you rent a boat from Jensen's (.5 mile away) you can stop at the house dock for lunch or to drop off pick up another person, etc. The beach is a couple of min walk away across the street. You just wheel the wagon and you are good to go. The pool is in the middle of the property. This was the best vacation set up and we had a blast. Only downfall is that Sanibel is a little ways away when you are driving 35 mph. There are 2 groceries in Sanibel and shell museum and other site seeing things to do. You get the best of both worlds with the bay in your backyard and beach min away. OH! we took the kayaks out on the bay and paddled to see the manatees that was awesome! Fun times and great memories. It helped to have such great housing! It is worth it!!! :)
