This cabin surely lives up to it's listing as being private. We loved that we saw no neighbors, only heard birds and the soothing water wheel and viewed beautiful moonscapes in the absence of street and city lights. From the lush bedding and towels to a kitchen full of amentities, the owner maintains a well-appointed retreat leaving no comfort need unmet. We appreciated the cleanliness, beautiful furnishings, and lighting fixtures inside and out that add to the ambience. Bringing our pet meant so much to us too!
This was our second stay at water wheel in equal number of years. We couldn't be happier with the cabin. The cabin has all the amenities of a home and cannot be furnished any better. Do not forget to try the Cuban from the filling station or go out to eat at nantahala outdoor center.
Cabin owner Mr. Vanderville is very attentive to particular needs and goes out of the way to make stay as pleasant as possible.
Cabin is very cozy and clean. We are sure to come back again.
Wonderful spot! All the comforts of home plus! We loved our stay! We're going back again in 2015
Just like to say, Thank you for a great place to stay. I have been here before with my best friend and his wife (The Gillilands) some years back and I loved it then. Now that I have came back with My family I have fell in love with this place again. Cabin is always in great shape, anything you need was there. The bed was great, I found myself hooded on the love seat in the living room it sat so good. I have been to a lot of cabins before, But this place is the best you with find, Its out in the woods and very peaceful. 5 mins from Bryson City. If you are looking for a get-a-way this is it! The hot tub was running and waiting when a got to the cabin, that was great after a long drive. Would i recommend this place to visit YES! if you stay anywhere else you have wasted your money. 2 bed room 2 bath hot tub, and at these rates. PRICELESS. Thank you We Will be coming back.

Truly enjoyed our week at the cabin. We brought our two small dogs and they loved running around the property. It's a little like being on a flat spot along the side of a mountain, so the dogs didn't have anywhere to go as long as they didn't go down the driveway. After so many vacations of keeping them on a leash for a week, this was refreshing for us, and them.
We had crazy weather, lows in the 30's, highs in the 70's some days, 50's on others. Thunderstorms several nights, but it was spring in the mountains, and we loved it. We laid in bed one night listening to the downpour (there's a metal roof) and realized we could hear the waterwheel moving. Another night we sat on the side patio and watched a lightning storm come across the mountains. It was amazing! The ground around the cabin sparkles with little bits of quartz from the surrounding mountains. The daffodils and tulips were just starting to bloom when we got there. Somehow they survived all the crazy weather we had. And in the off season (winter and spring), you can see the sunset through the trees from the hot tub.
The cabin is much more cozy than the photos show. The bathrooms are nice and the showers have to be new! Michael has instructions posted everywhere, which are just ways to make the cabin more like home. (Really, close the side blinds during the day. Even when it's cold, otherwise it gets stuffy.) The kitchen has everything, including a pitcher if you want to make juice or iced tea, and a glass pan if you want to make sweet rolls in the morning.
Our only complaint, and the only reason I didn't give the cabin 5 stars, is the seating in the living room. The recliner couch was unfortunately broken and neither side would recline. The other two chairs are wicker with some padding, but not as comfy as our seating at home. Otherwise the cabin was very clean and comfortable. It was exactly what we were hoping for - a peaceful, relaxing get-away.
After innumerable cabin rentals in the past decade in southern Appalachia, I have to rank the Water Wheel Cabin as one of my favorites.
The building itself is cozy, but in no way cramped, and well appointed with more thoughtful amenities than I've ever experienced.
And after a day of hiking, the hot tub- creatively placed within the timbers of an old cabin- was heavenly.
This location is by far, my new favorite.
