Photos and Description of the Spoleto vacation apartment rental
Self-catering in central Spoleto, easy access to Rome, Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto

Large, private, pool available to all our guests, 7 miles away, free of charge, at our Villa Marianna.

In the 14C Rocca Dei Perugini, the stronghold for the Perugini when they conquered Spoleto, located in a pedestrian area, Terrazza Bella + Bella Due are stylish, self catering apartments, 1 with a stunning terrace, both with balconies. Terrazza Bella has a large sitting/dining room with a fitted kitchen along one side + a balcony off both bedrooms. Bella Due has a large sitting/dining room with a separate galley kitchen + a balcony off both bedrooms. Both balconies overlook Porta Fuga. You enter the apartments through a Roman stone passage that leads to the stairs/lift up to the apartments. Here, you are treated to all the advantages of contemporary living. Yet, at the same time, the atmosphere in this beautifully restored palazzo is laced with antiquity. It was here that the battle between the Spoletini and the Perugini raged for 2 years until the Spoletini regained their city.

SPOLETO HISTORIC PEDESTRIAN CENTRE: In the midst of shops, bars and the largest selection of fantastic restaurants, all offering a diversity of dishes from local black truffles to pastas and paper thin, bubbly, crispy crust, piping hot pizzas, Spoleto is not a touristy place and, therefore, prices are good, competitive local prices. The local wines eg Trebbiano, Grecchetto, Montefalco, Orvieto... are to die for. You will hardly notice the price of it on your bill. You can choose from amazing shoe, bag and clothes shops, any shape or size, designer label or otherwise. And, there are churches and monuments on street corners, under arches, through tunnelled alleyways, peppered hither and thither, as you meander along the picturesque cobbled lanes, every angle, a work of art. Fatal to take your camera out. You will obsessively do nothing but take photos ! The local bars are filled with friendly locals and the owners will warmly welcome you. The passeggiata is where everyone meets and is joyful, especially over aperitivi.

BUS, TRAIN OR CAR: From Spoleto train station, a 10 mins walk, it is possible to get to practically anywhere in Italy eg 1 hr 20 mins to Rome, 4/5 hours to Venice and Naples, 30 mins to Perugia.... An easy walk along a flat boulevard road, also stuffed with shops and bars ! From the nearest bus stop, a 5 mins walk, you can catch a bus to Norcia, which will take you on a sensationally beautiful drive along the Valnerina, for about 1 hr 45 mins, passing through mountain scenery, climbing higher and higher. Or, by car, you can continue further to the heart-stoppingly, amazing Gran Piano and see the tiny hick town of Castellucio peeking through swirling mists. On a great plane, surrounded by mountains, the world spilling beneath you, your heart will miss a beat. In Castellucio, you can dine on the finest lentils and white truffles. Nearer to home, by car, it is easy to visit Todi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Perugia, Spello and Assisi, all within a 45 mins heavenly drive.

SPOLETO : WALKING, HIKING OR BIKING: You can walk to the top of Spoleto, passing the famous Duomo, and reach Spoleto's finest 2 monuments, the Rocca and Il Ponte. Takes about 15 mins. Then, you can do a circular walk around the Rocca, which is spectacularly beautiful, as you see Spoleto sprawling below you. Or, you can take the escalator from the bottom to the top of Spoleto. Then, pausing at the bar at the top for a prosecco, you can continue across the famous and stunning looking, arched bridge, directly into the mountains, and, either do another circular walk, passing across valleys, mountains and dales, ending up in Piazza Garibaldi, at the bottom of Spoleto, or, continue up through the Sacred Mountains to Monteluco. Or, you can take the bus from the bottom to the top, which takes about 10 minutes. If you are a cyclist, you can hire bikes locally and cycle along the river bank, all the way to Assisi, passing Campello and Trevi along the way.

We were retired ! We 'fell' into our holiday rental business by accident. It started as a hobby after someone pleaded with us to rent them our house in San Mamiliano, while we were away.

We now have 2 major partners and between us, we offer about 40 very diverse villas, apartments and pool properties, both in central Spoleto and close by. Please see them all on my personal website, the address of which you will find at the bottom of the HomeAway page of this property.

However, we still do not regard ourselves as 'proper business people' because we care far more about contributing to making our guests' holidays fantastic than we do about making money. Indeed, Trip Advisor has awarded us their highest accolade, their ultimate badge of excellence, which can be used to promote any of our properties, as a result of the volume of brilliant reviews we have received from all over the world.

  • Days in addition to a week are calculated pro-rata the weekly rate.

    Discounted offer !!

5% discount off the 2nd week of a 2 week booking or a 15% discount off the 3rd week of a 3 week booking or a 25% discount off the 4th week of a 4 week booking.

For bookings longer than 4 weeks, then, each subsequent week attracts a discount of 5%.

This is a limited offer and may be withdrawn at any time - however, I will guarantee this offer for 2 weeks from the day I reply to your enquiry. This offer overrides discounts offered in the booking information sent to you in response to an enquiry.
  • The weekly rate includes the probability of being driven from the station on arrival and returned on departure day for those not wanting to hire a car

    Flexible arrival/departure days.

The rate includes up to 3 persons - extra persons are 50 Euro/week each. Can sleep up to 5 with extra single beds erected unobtrusively in very large sitting room.

  • Beware of owners who ask that you pay for the heating in addition to the rental rate - at the end of your stay, you could well find yourself having to pay the same as you've paid in rent or even more, such is the exorbitant cost of gas, electricity and wood in Italy.

We provide for free all utilities...down to the last detail, including unlimited hot water. And, we give you a generous Welcome Pack...wine, fruit, pasta, olive oil, bread, milk, tea, coffee, cereal, salad, etc., so that our guests can relax immediately on arrival and think about 'the big shop' the next day.

Lovely apartment

Submitted: November 16, 2011 Stayed: October 2011
We unfortunately only stayed in the lovely Bella Due apartment for 3 days but we could have stayed weeks. It is a beautiful, clean and comfortable apartment in the fabulous walled city of Spoleto. We had a very close car park and Laurie was a wonderful host, doing everything he could to make our short stay a memorable one. We would recommend this apartment to anyone and only wish we could have stayed longer. Hopefully we may get back some day.

A Super Place to Stay in a Lovely Town

5 of 5
Submitted: July 30, 2010 Stayed: June 2010
We really enjoyed our stay in the apartment in
> Spoleto. We though Spoleto was lovely - a really interesting place with so much to see. We are both really keen to come back sometime fairly soon and so some walking. The apartment was great - it had everything we needed and was really well maintained, and so well located in the town. We were really amazed how quiet the street at night - great to be right in the middle of things without being on a noisy thoroughfare. But best of all was the excellent customer care from Norma and Laurie!

Bella Due for the 2 1/2 of us

5 of 5
Submitted: November 7, 2009 Stayed: July 2009
We stayed at the comfortable and incredibly well-located Bella Due for 10 weeks during the summer of 2009. "We" included a 2 1/2 year old. The apartment is easy walking to everything in town (as long as you can walk up and down hills) including sites, parks, markets, and restaurants. Spoleto is a very charming town and despite being there during the busy tourist time, found it to be more relaxed and less crowded than many other places we visited in Italy. Spoleto was the ideal home base for us to launch extended trips by train to the North (Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Luca, Siena) and South (Rome, Naples, Amalfi Coast) as well as day-trips to many towns including Perugia, Spello, and Orvieto.

Norma and Laurie, despite being very engaged in a number of activities, were very welcoming, accommodating, and attentive hosts. They consistently went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Our 2-year old quickly became very fond of friendly Laurie and still asks about him by name, having been back from Italy for two months.

We would love the opportunity to return and would be disappointed if we weren't able to stay with Norma and Laurie.

Owner's Response: Bella Due is one of several lovely apartments that we have in central Spoleto, all advertised with Holiday Rentals. It has a balcony off both bedrooms that overlooks the mediaeval, pedestrian streets of Porta Fuga and Corso Garibaldi. And, its huge sitting/dining room, with its large window, opens onto a pretty area, full of flowers, with a patio.

Very convenient for restaurants, bars and shops, Bella Due is just 10 mins stroll to Spoleto station, from where you can get to practically everywhere in Italy. As our reviewer has indicated, Spoleto is a great place to stay if you want a base in the middle of Italy. Then, nowhere is too far to visit eg Perugia, Spello, Orvieto, Assisi, Bevagna, Montefalco, Gubbio, Trevi...... ! All these places, the very best places to visit in Umbria, are close to Spoleto !!! And, Rome is just 1 hr 15 mins by train or car.

Magical Spoleto

5 of 5
Submitted: November 4, 2009 Stayed: October 2009
I have stayed in several historical cities/towns in Toscana and Umbria, and would put Spoleto at the top of the list. It is full of hills, lots of walking to see the sights (which are numerable) and this wonderful apartment right in the middle of the action.

It is located on the main walking street into town where the passagiata happens daily. From the balcony you can see the locals walk and talk the evening away. Or you can join in the fun from the front door.

And walk about 20 steps up the hill to a fantastic restaurant with hand crafted food that can rival any four-star meal at home. Add a local wine and you have an evening in food heaven.

For those of us without a car, an easy walk to the train station from here can get you to several local spots for day trips. I love using the train system and find it very relaxing if I don't have to compete with Italian drivers and limited parking.

Our hosts could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. The apartment was spotless and very well appointed for cooking at home (always important).

I would recommend this apartment, and the properties of this landlord any time.

A Wonderful Place To Stay

5 of 5
Submitted: May 31, 2009 Stayed: May 2009
This is the second time that I have stayed at one of Norma and Laurie's properties. My latest stay was as charming as the first. The apartment is simply lovely and the location can't be beat. There are many great restaurants, shop and cafes close by. The accomodations/facilities are exactly as described on the website. Everything was clean and properly maintained. The kitchen had everything you needed to prepare a snack or a full meal. Laurie picked us up at the train station and made sure we were comfortable with the keys and appliances. He showed us the basket of tourist information that Norma had organized (which included restaurant recommendations, suggestions for daytrips and emergency contact info). Overall, I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking to explore the beautiful town of Spoleto and the surrounding countryside of Umbria.
