Review of Shipwatch North
Review Submitted: March 23, 2010
Date of Stay: February 2010
We had a great time. Coming from the north, we were treated to a beautiful beach! Our stay was for a month; mid-Feb to mid-March. The weather was not great, but we couldn't change that! It was a cold year from California to southern Florida and up the eastern coast. So, I'd rather have been on the windy beach than shoveling the snow! There is history, restaurants (too numerous to mention, but "local" and "tourist"), waterparks, mini-golf, Ft. Morgan, the ferry to Dauphin Island (Sea Lab), the zoo is fabulous for little ones, LuLu's restaurant was very toddler friendly!, shopping, so much more; something for everyone!
On arrival, it was a little disappointing to have the house directly in front of us, BUT, you do get used to looking out the windows in either direction; and the views are amazing! We watched the "rigs," waves, and the dolphins playing just for us!
The fish market down the street has fabulous, fresh fish - each and every time we bought there. We also liked Fish Bait at the Wharf; the nachos are out of this world! The pictures of the storms in MikeE's are interesting, Pink Pony Pub makes a stiff drink! and Kiva Dunes is a treasure so close to the house.
The house itself was well-equipped. The "closed" porch was a blessing when we had a 2-yr old visiting! He could run back and forth without the worry of stairs. Again, we were not able to take advantage of the hammock, the windows open, picnics on the porch, etc. due to the weather. We did set up the folding table in the DR/KIT area and had a shrimp boil inside!
Everyone who visited us enjoyed the house, the views, the beach and the area as much as we did! There's a LOT of beach; not far from the house, the houses stop and it's just beach to Ft. Morgan. All-in-all a great vacation.
