Local beaches include Ballston, Beach Point, Coast Guard, Cold Storage, Corn Hill, Fisher, Great Hollow, Head of the Meadow, Longnook, and Ryder. Several of Truro's beaches are consistently listed among the best beaches in the USA. Although all Truro beaches are part of the Cape Cod National seashore, Truro's beaches are run by the town. Ballston, Cost Guard, Head of the Meadow and Longnook are ocean side beaches of great dramatic beauty, with cliff sized dunes on one side and an endless ocean horizon on the other. Surfing is rapidly gaining popularity on these beaches, and equipment can be rented. Cold Storage, Corn Hill, Great Hollow and Ryder beaches are on the bay side, with calmer waters. Fisher Beach is the closest beach to the house, about a half mile down the road.
Golf:
Heralded as Cape Cod's oldest golf course, perhaps its most scenic, the Highland Links in North Truro is one of America s golf treasures, perched high along windswept bluffs overlooking the Atlantic next to the vintage Cape Cod Light. Circumstances keep it a genuine links, as close to the Scottish tradition found anywhere in the eastern United States, with deep natural rough, Scotch broom, heath, non irrigated open fairways, and spectacular ocean views. When the Cape Cod National Seashore was established, Highland became Federal property and leased to the Town of Truro. Alistair Cook once described Highland as 'the most perfect example of the typical British or Scottish links in the United States.'
